DIY Cloakroom Transformation (with tongue and groove cladding). Persimmon Hanbury WC

  • In this video, I makeover the smallest room in my Hanbury house, which is the downstairs WC/loo/cloakroom/toilet/bathroom (whatever you want to call it!) I used spruce tongue and groove cladding, paint and a few decor items to transform the room. Let me know what you think of it in the comments!
    This is definitely a project that beginners to DIY could do over a weekend, as you only need one tool really! You can also pick up tongue and groove boards that are already joined together as a board and primed, so you could use something like that to make the DIY even easier.
    Please remember that if you are tackling DIY/home improvement projects of your own, that you are properly trained to use equipment or at the very least you follow all health and safety guidance of the tools, equipment and products you use.
    The flush mount ceiling LED light was from Dunelm, but can't find a link, so they may not sell it anymore. It was called Berlin. The soap dispensers and wire basket were also from Dunelm, but I spray painted them gold.
    The flower was from The Range (it was cheaper in store!): www.therange.co.uk/home-furni...
    Toilet roll holder: amzn.to/3Gft7Zz
    Hand towel bin: amzn.to/3noA1Tv
    White flannels: amzn.to/3jxoSyS
    The other bin was possibly from B&M.
    Flooring: valuefloors.co.uk/product/her...
    Tongue and groove cladding: www.trade-point.co.uk/departm...
    I chose to buy the 1.8 length because it fits in the car and I didn't want to wait for delivery, but you can get longer and shorter sections, or you can buy the pre-primed boards already stuck together.
    Astragal moulding (wouldn't recommend because of the depth though!): www.trade-point.co.uk/departm...

    Wonderful to watch, and to learn from. You're a lovely, informed presenter, too.
    Don't worry about the imperfect filler issue....it lends a really rustic feel.

      @@WhenLoveisProjected incidentally what did you use to cut the panels..??

    • @WhenLoveisProjected
      @WhenLoveisProjected  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a circular saw to trim them to length and a table saw because some needed to be cut lengthways on the angled corners. You could achieve the same with a jigsaw as well. Hope that’s helpful!

    Lovely job, well done. I found where caulking was used it's difficult to paint over.

    • @WhenLoveisProjected
      @WhenLoveisProjected  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Yep caulk is rubbery so hard to paint over! It’s the last step after painting really (any gaps should be filled/sanded before paining). There is a see through caulk which is less obvious, or if your fixtures are white like mine, then white caulk I guess is an okay option. ☺️

  • @lubnaalzabin8024
    @lubnaalzabin8024 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    great video. How did the tongue and groove paneling fare with time? I read lots of reviews on the similar B&Q ones saying that they develop gaps over time. Did you leave them in the room to dry out for some time before?

    • @WhenLoveisProjected
      @WhenLoveisProjected  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No I didn’t leave them in the room at all. Yeah they’re fine. Two gaps that were easy to sort, but I’d have a little movement anyway because of settling. I suspect the complaints are because of fitting issues. If you apply enough adhesive, ensure they are properly interlocked and also you could use a nail gun as well (I decided not to) then you shouldn’t have problems. Overall for the price, I think it was a decent product.

    • @WhenLoveisProjected
      @WhenLoveisProjected  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah that’s a shame that you wouldn’t consider your guest’s experience when they visit your home. I like to host well and for people to feel comfortable. Not sure if you’ve seen my other vids but my degree is in architecture and I was a DT teacher for years, so I’ll always consider function, ergonomics, Anthropometrics and user experience alongside form/design. I’m sure you can imagine that WCs/toilets (everything in general down to the handle on the door) are designed with people in mind. That’s what design is. ☺️

    Are you sure the link to the cladding is the correct one? Your joins look pronounced (which is better) than mice, mine click together with a pretty smooth finish / join?

    • @WhenLoveisProjected
      @WhenLoveisProjected  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so. I didn't buy it online, I got it in store, but I matched the link up with the correct size that I'd bought. This was a year and a half ago though, so they could have changed their manufacturing process, or maybe it's just the difference in how we installed it - no idea!

    Good attempt.
    It would have been preferable if you removed the sink and toilet and covered the cladding over the existing skirting boards.

    • @WhenLoveisProjected
      @WhenLoveisProjected  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah for sure, it’s preferable to go behind the fixtures/skirting. It’s a longer process but produces higher quality results. (I definitely can’t remove a toilet by myself though!) I suppose when I do the bathroom panelling I’ll show it with going behind the skirting so viewers can see it done properly. Thanks for your feedback. ☺️
