Thank you for all your help in helping me buy a new PC! Let me know if you think there is a PC exclusive game I didn't cover in the video and feel free to suggest simple computer upgrades.

you can get a base GTX 1660 for around $100 used if you're lucky, and that'll let you basically play any modern game. it's important to check the motherboard first to make sure everything is compatible because older stuff isn't always up to regulation, but i wouldn't be surprised if it worked. another thing that'd help performance is a good SSD to run the OS off.

Two games. I’ve already told you about “get REKTorized”, but I also just found out about an old DOS game called Slipstream 5000 (which is available on Steam for a couple bucks, prepackaged in a DOSBOX thing). It’s an *aircraft* combat racing game, a bit more sim-heavy than wipeout (there aren’t any weapon pads, for instance: you gotta put the weapons on your plane before the race), but the manual does mention that the vehicles do have an antigravity component (probably to keep them airborne when their engines aren’t producing thrust).
You’ll need to use either the Mouse and Keyboard or a DirectInput joystick to play the game though, DOSBOX (to my knowledge) doesn’t have an XInput wrapper.

Less friggin go! Now I wonder how it would handle emulation. Mainly PSP titles are very easy to emulate, and the process of setting it up legally is surprisingly simple nowadays!

So I've heard as well! I still own a PS Vita so I play a certain few PSP titles on that console every now and then, Wipeout Pulse is one of them.

Hi Eric! For $150 thats a good rig! Maybe I'd suggest in the future you get a 7th gen ryzen 5, with it's respective motherboard, it will set you back a couple hundred dollars but after that you'd have a great foundation for upgrading, knowing that most Ryzen CPUs already have a GPU built into them. After that I'd go for as bigger an SSD you can afford and 16G more ram. High end GPU's are still too expensive IMO and not worth at all for games that are more in the indie realm and not that Gfx intensive

    • @AGRacingCentral
      @AGRacingCentral  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks a lot for the tips! I'm actually planning to buy an entirely different rig whenever the time is right, just like you are suggesting, rather than upgrading my current one. I'll definitely look into Ryzen 5, not worrying about a GPU sounds very tempting.

@@AGRacingCentral I'd recommend getting an Intel Arc A750 or A770 as they are cheap mid range gpus, that are around RTX 3050 to 3070 level of performance.

Congrats! Not a bad PC at all especially for indies, and at $150
I'd upgrade the ssd first, cpu and gpu are still passable. Upgrading either of those may require a new motherboard and power supply as well
Looking forward to more pc content!

    Hey, Erik!
First off - congrats with your new PC! When I saw the specs I was a little iffy (seeing as how my own PC is quite a bit newer), but when I heard the price... $150 is practically a steal, so you got a really good deal on this one! Hope you enjoy it!
About the performance on Deathgrip: it's definitely a beefy game that hasn't been optimized terribly much yet. This will happen later, however. But yeah, it does indeed require at least a GTX 1080 ti if you want to play it somewhat properly on lower quality levels. The only areas where even high-spec PC's lag are areas where a lot of assets load in, though Brian is looking into this. Hope you can enjoy the game somewhat soon!
As for BallisticNG: The devs put a new physics mode in the game that got a lot more meat on its' bones with the latest few updates. Supposedly it's meant to feel more like the later WipEout games. Have you tried it out? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks a lot for your lengthy comment. It was unfortunate that Deathgrip wasn’t playable but other than that, I’m very happy with the PC considering the price. I’ve heard about the new BNG mode that was released recently, making a video about it is a great idea!

@@AGRacingCentral I feel you, I've been equipping myself too these past few months, and the feeling is quite fantastic :)
Actually this makes me think of something: that was a tiny bit of a let-down: I recently switched to widescreen and most other AG racers, even if they offer wide-screen resolutions, usually extend the screen width a bit but not all the way. In order to fill the full width, they make up for what's left by zooming in on the whole thing, resulting in a loss of a portion of the high and low parts of the screen, making the whole thing ultimately unplayable.
Games such as Redout 2 or Pacer do that, which is quite a disappointment.
So far I found two exceptions: Ballistic NG and Antigraviator, which both are truly widescreen compatible.
This might be an idea for a video of yours in the future too :)

The tricky thing about the PC is that the motherboard will preclude most new hardware other than video cards (and then you'd need to worry about power draw). A solid state drive would be nice to have, even just to put the operating system on it, that'd have a significant effect on how fast the PC is in a day-to-day sense.

Thanks a lot, good points. I'm really not a computer wiz but that's my understanding as well. I might invest in an SSD but more likely, I'll sell this rig when the time is right and buy an entirely new, slightly better, one.

Hello, this is my personal list of all the AG (Anti-gravity) games I could find (that I think are of note); use an emulator to play some if you can't do it officially and look up cheat codes, manuals and see if there's DLC for some of the games.
Speedruns are also a good tutorial.
    THIS LIST IS FOR EVERYONE:
Cyber Speedway, 1995 (Sega Saturn) the EU version has the JP soundtrack and has more stable frames.
Cyberspeed, 1995 (PS1, Windows) neat concept; for you to gain speed you need to face the same direction as the turns in the track (When the track turns up you go upside down, etc) you can also flip behind yourself to fire backwards and slow opponents.
    Slipstream 5000, 1995 (MS-DOS).
    Hi-Octane, 1995 (PS1, Sega Saturn, MS-DOS).
WipEout 2097, 1996 (PS1, Sega Saturn, Amiga, WarpOS, Mac, Windows).
    AeroGauge, 1997 (N64).
Jet Moto 2 or Jet Moto 2: Championship Edition, 1997 (PS1) Championship Edition includes Jet Moto 1 tracks, but it has 6 less competitors during races.
    F-Zero X, 1998 (N64).
    360: Three Sixty, 1999 (PS1).
    WipEout 3 or WipEout 3 special edition, 1999 (PS1).
    Ballistics, 2001 (Windows).
NYR: New York Race, 2001 (PS2, Windows).
    MegaRace 3, 2002 (PS2, Windows).
    WipEout FuSion, 2002 (PS2).
Quantum Redshift, 2002 (Xbox) this is slightly like Jet Moto.
F-Zero GX, 2003 (GameCube) learn how to quick turn because the game never tells you how; you turn using the left and right "air brakes" (L and R, not the official button) you will lose speed when you do this around turns; you quick turn (Drift) by pressing both "air brakes" at the same time then steer with the stick, your speed will increase if you look at the speedometer around turns.
    Tube Slider, 2003 (GameCube).
    Powerdrome, 2004 (PS2, Xbox, Windows).
    WipEout PurE, 2005 (PSP).
Sonic Riders, 2006 (PS2, Xbox, GameCube, Windows).
    WipEout Pulse, 2007 (PSP, PS2).
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, 2008 (PS2, Wii).
Sonic Free Riders, 2010 (Xbox Kinect) this is ONLY! recommended if you play the fan modded "no Kinect patch" by Rei-San to remove the "AWFUL" motion controls, this is available for emulator and official hardware.
    Fast Racing League, 2011 (Wii).
Quantum Rush: Champions, 2014 (Xbox, PC).
Redout or Redout Enhanced Edition, 2016 (PS4/5, Xbox, Switch, PC).
    Fast RMX, 2017 (Switch).
    Pacer, 2017 (PS4/5, Xbox, PC).
    WipEout Omega Collection, 2017 (PS4/5).
    BallisticNG, 2018 (PC).
GRIP: Combat Racing, 2018 (PS4/5, Xbox, Switch, PC).
    Antigraviator, 2018 (PS4/5, Xbox, PC).
Lightfield Hyper Edition, 2018 (PS4/5, Xbox, PC).
Trailblazers, 2018 (PS4/5, Xbox, Switch, PC).
Future Aero Racing S Ultra (FAR S Ultra), 2018 (Switch, PC).
Warp Drive, 2020 (PS4/5, Xbox, Switch, PC).
    Z-RACE, 2021 (VR).
    Flashout 3, 2022 (PS4/5, Xbox, Switch, PC).
    Redout 2, 2022 (PS4/5, Xbox, Switch, PC).
    ArcRacer, 2023 (PC).
Pahantom Spark, 2024 (PS4/5, Xbox, Switch, PC).
The list is meant to have COMPLETED games not in development games; but if I were to mention one, it would be XF Extreme Formula. Celeros does have a neat demo.
    Non AG sci-fi Racing:
    Kinetica, 2001 (PS2).
XGRA: Extreme-G Racing Association, 2003 (PS2, Xbox, GameCube).

Don’t forget to review “get REKTorized”, but remember to clarify:
    - It’s currently free
    - It’s still in development
    - It’s made by literally one guy
    - It’s brutally unforgiving on purpose
    - It focuses more on total chaos than on racing
    - The campaign is full of riddles
Be completely honest in your criticism.
I must also warn you that the level “DDoS” in Chapter 3 of the campaign will freeze repeatedly. That’s on purpose, as it turns out, there’s nothing wrong with your computer. (I was actually pretty angry when I found this out the hard way, hence this warning.)

      @@AGRacingCentral There’s also Slipstream 5000.
It was an aircraft racing game for MS-DOS, released a few months before WipEout. The game is available for a couple bucks on Steam, running in DOSBOX. According to the manual, the aircraft do use antigravity technology to stay airborne while motionless, but besides that they seem to be conventional aircraft.
Just a warning: avoid going under the bridge on the London circuit. Every time I’ve done so, the game crashed. Go over it instead.
