The whole WR thing turned into a bug hunting where you had to chase bug after bug after bug - the game is broken. Basically it’s determined by who will waste more time trying to trigger a bug to send you in a proper direction on the map.

There's actually a physics explanation to why airbraking works - it's done quite frequently in bmx racing; basically though braking transfers the rotational inertia from your spinning wheels into your frame, effectively making your wheel stop moving, and your frame continuing to do so. So if your wheel is attached to your frame, the vehicle has no choice but to rotate on that axis (which happens to be forward). This causes you to be able to stop pulling your nose up, and pull it down mid air. It's also for the opposite reason that acceleration midair causes the opposite rotation as braking
It's a really cool real world thing that a lot of people don't realize exists irl

Trackmania has always had a special place in my heart. It was true, back then in the early 2000's there was no Epic game studio, Humble Bundle, Ubisoft... game stores where they would randomly give a game free every month. It was extremely rare to get a game completely free without a catch. As a kid that had to pay for his own games, finding a game free like trackmania was amazing, and the fact that I can play against other players online was even more awesome.
Where did you download it?
I assume you're talking about the stores, since epic and ubisoft very much existed back then.

Haha it's true I love these videos watch them all but i've only played track mania a short time on ps4. Trackmania turbo it was
lol True, I wandered upon Wirtual's channel and realized I really like his content. I was fascinated by the ability's of trackmania players and Wirtual showcased their skills very well. I started to show my older brother some of the clips and he was like "Wait a minuet, we've played that game before" It turns out I played Trackmania when I was only a wee 5 y/o and I hadn't even realized it. I guess some things come full circle
Never played any of the main games but when I saw the ramp flip towards the end I was like “ah of course, he’s gonna go for the uberbug” lmao
what i like with these documentaries is that they're standalone - in many cases, shortcut runs exploit bugs like nosebugs, uberbugs, etc, and wirtual always explain what the bug consists in - you don't need prior knowledge to understand the bug enough to understand the runs, and that's beautiful
that means you don’t need to watch documentaries in order or know the actual game to watch it :D
hello kat
It's also helpful for someone like me, who doesn't play the game all that often and nowhere near a high enough level to care about nose bugs and the like. The descriptions always give me a good reminder of what it actually is.
yes, his documentaries can be watched standalone, without knowing any else one

I just wanted to leave a huge compliment. Back in Nations Forever I was just a casual player who loved to drive against friends online. A few weeks ago I came across the new Trackmania and watched some streams, mostly the AT Challenge. Now I was looking for fun videos to watch regarding this game and found your Channel and Videos. I have huge respect for you now. I watched the "Deep Fear" Video and others, tbh, I watched 3 hours of videos now and every single minute was a blast. Your storytelling, quality, and absolute maniac effort and dedication are inspiring. I mean you played that deep fear map for 15 hours - I can't even imagine how exhausting it had to be to drive that insane map while entertaining your chat etc. So huge respect and thanks for the stunning content you provide! I know, I know, nobody my respect doesn't mean anything since I'm just a stranger on the internet writing a comment on TH-cam :D. Anyway, I'm looking forward to spending even more time with the amazing videos you created. Keep the fantastic work up! Cheers :)
I watch his videos for a week or so now and i can also agree. The step by step explanation makes it enjoyable even if you know nothing of that game.
I also only played it a bit casually back then when it was released, and seeing now how dedicated these players are is insane. And Wirtuals storytelling make
all his videos often more intense than a good movie.
The only other one i know who has this entertaining way of explaining speedruns is Karl Jobst. I watch him for about 2 years now and i love his content.

Your videos are such a wonderful love letter to this gaming community. I've never played Trackmania or even tried speedrunning anything, but videos like yours really communicate the passion behind these players in a beautiful way. Truly incredible work!
An airbreak is somewhat of a realistic behavior just that it works exactly the opposite of how it does in reality. Motocrossers use that in every jump. It´s the conservation of angular momentum. The rotational energy stored in the spinning wheels is transfered to the whole bike when you break. So break = tilt forward. Reving up the engine however tilts the bike in the other direction.
Is that why when they do whips the say brake a lil or rev like mad
Science = gud
@@spectrofpv9823 if they do a huge whip they rev to help bring the bike back around. brake tapping (or air braking) stops the back wheel causing the front end to drop.
Wait, the rotational energy isn't stored in the balls? So many lies man...

It must feel sooo good to see your car floating directly towards the finish line. Such a rush as it all develops slowly in front of you. I can't think of any speed run/world record situations that develop quite like that.
Track Mania is turning into: “Find the Uber bug”. After seeing some of the runs people have done, and the ever so crazy TAS; Track Mania has gone from arcade racer to flight sim. I bet with enough time and patience players could find a way to Uber bug on most if not all of the tracks to finish them. It might not be faster, but I certainly find it entertaining.
yeah, it completely defeats the purpose of the game if the fastest time is dependent on luck.
@@iRaps1 that's essentially what most speedrunning is about
@@Nai_101 if all the effort went to keeping the players On track with like 374 checkpoints, then you could get lucky with consistently great lines but you couldn't produce them if you weren't elite. If you have to RNG fly into a finish, you might as well just take part in a lottery
indd, just uberbug/nosebug from cp to cp ( still insane runs tough !)
@@iRaps1 skill + luck always come together in the equation. You need skill to join this speedrun lottery in the first place, but once you're on a level where you can consistently do the uberbugs or consistently drive near-perfect lines through a linear track, it becomes a competition of luck between the top players. Neither situation is really different, although shortcuts make for far more interesting content.
