Hearing the SMB2 music really makes me smile. Still such a shame that they didn't just give us an entire SMB2 theme. The costumes suck because if you get hit it breaks the immersion and it's easy to have situations where a player gets hard locked in themed levels.

It on for the whole level: basically swap between Mario. SMB2 Mario or link: and if you get hit you just die
They probably did that to have something saved for Mario Maker 3 (and because making an entire SMB2 theme requires making tons of enemies and level assets as well, which is a very different budget and time commitment).
I would be VERY shocked if we didn’t get a full on SMB2 theme for the next game.
They didn’t because it’s so similar to Mario bros 1 and that would be a waste of time being spent making sprites. The power - up works perfectly
When you have a SMB2 Power up, pressing on the P switch plays the Super Mario Bros. theme from SMB2 and the POW block plays a different sound.

Watt got a better appearance in the Link’s Awakening remake, but this is still AWESOME! I love that catchy underground theme so much, and it’s great that it’s here!

I've always thought that wart could/should be Nintendo's version of Freddy Kruger. Where he can appear in any game franchise so long as that character is asleep.
For a long time now I've been coming up with all kinds of idea's of how wart could appear in other games. One example is for kirby where you discover a special version of the enemy that gives you the sleep power up, but instead of just going to sleep you enter a secret level that leads you to a boss fight with wart.
I know Nintendo won't ever really do anything with wart ever again but a spider can dream right?
That sounds neat, since Wart appeared in Doki Doki Panic & Zelda: Link's Awakening.

Kirby is a 2nd party franchise and it’s kinda stopped with hardcore references ever since 64, but I could definitely see some other games with dream Wart appearances.
Imagine how his design/artstyle would change depending on the franchise. For Metroid it would be a freakish alien creature, for F-Zero a fat human racer dressed in a frog outfit (like James Mcloud in F-Zero GX being a human with some fox attributes).
He would fit right at home as a god/demon of dreams or such in Kid Icarus.
@@ultraspinalki11 Well, for the worlds of Mario, Zelda, & even Yume Kojo Doki Doki Panic, Wart would be the same as normal. For MOTHER/Earthbound, he could be more robot-like. For Fire Emblem, a dragon. Splatoon, a mutated frog. Pokemon, the same as normal (since there are various shapes in that world).

The P Switch changes the music to the SMB Overworld theme when going to Subspace in SMB2 and the Star from SMB2 as well.
It's so crazy to see Wart finally make a reappearance after so many years!

I’m pretty convinced this was going to be a theme at some point and for some reason they changed it to a power up. With the assets for Wart and Birdo in here- I think they were going to originally use them in the theme and they decided to cameo them here instead.

the smb2 character select theme?! im adding that to every single level now, it's my favorite song in the entire franchise.
I wish we could have got a SMB2 game style instead, but I understand that it's just so wildly different that it'll probably be amongst Mario Maker 3's new stuff if anything. Either way the work they put into even the smallest little additions to this game just show how much the team cares about this game/tool and it's really made this a more than solid purchase.

There's no way it was supposed to be. Super Mario bros 2 doesn't exist in Japan and Nintendo is a Japanese company. They'd never release a theme just for the west and not Japan
@@Kevin-ep8sy Actually, it does exist in Japan as Super Mario USA. Not only that, Nintendo was actually planning to make SMB2 of the West the second SMB title, instead of Lost Levels. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
(Also, it has been reported that Nintendo was indeed going to make a SMB2 Theme, but due to COVID, they just decided to put it into a Power-Up form. I'm not sure how much of this is indeed true, but apparently multiple sources are confirming this, and it wouldn't be unheard of.)

I remember watching your initial group reaction/breakdown video and someone was disappointed that Wart didn't make an appearance. As soon as I downloaded the update and tested the music to see Wart and his theme, I instantly remembered that video. Glad he made it in in some way.
I wished they would include the whole mario 2 theme. There have been and are many games that i like. But only a few i really love and Mario 2 is one of those. I remember having the gratest adrenaline rush whenever i would pick up the cursed key.
I feel like they have everything in place to have an entire smb2 theme but they just got lazy and didn't finish it
You're missing one! If you use a P-Switch it plays the Sub-Space/Potion Door theme, which is just a short rendition of the original Super Mario Bros. theme. Pretty cool!

As A Person who grew up on Super Mario All-star, I have a preference to there versions of the songs, but I'm grateful it's here.
I just wish there was a way to make you STAY transformed for an entire level. If I make/play a themed level, I don't want to have to give/get the powerup constantly. I would rather just get it once at the start of the level, and if I get hit, I lose a hitpoint or die. Instead of becoming Mario again. I'd like to go through a Zelda level as Link, or a SMB2 level as an SMB2 character, but not needing to pick up a mushroom/sword every 5 seconds, and have an endless supply for every boss fight.

The credits theme is so great. Especially if you added an extra level after the "Final Boss" in a custom world where you get a peaceful area with that music. That would be perfect.

This off topic of this video, but i have a possible theory about this game that we could likely get new parts and course themes, because one of the World themes that was confirmed to be a Volcano theme, and it got me thinking that what IF any future updates will give us new course themes including Volcano since the Castle theme doesnt count because it doesnt fit the world theme, but i bet they might rename the Volcano theme to Castle World theme instead.

You gotta remember that SMB2 was not even a Mario game in Japan, so I'd say it's pretty crazy we got anything at all from that game

There was smb2 theme in development but can cut for reasons unknown .. I'm just glad this and the frog suit have returned overall I'll be fine if this is the last maker game because we literally have enough content to last us for year's to come

They missed putting the Subspace music in with either the peaceful sound effect, or for underwater levels.
They used the Subspace music for the P-Switch. Also, I think they should have used the title screen music for Underwater, since it's a remake of the SMB1 Underwater theme.

It seems that Super mario brothers 2 was supposed to be the last theme, but it was too much work or to different to make it happen. So this costume is a replacement of that.
