To answer your question, when two players have keys there will be a Phantom for each player

follow-up question for the Multiple Phanto one: what about multiplayer when more than one player has a cursed key?
yup. 1 for each player. you can basically have 4 phanto's in a level if each person has 1 cursed key.

You can stand on, and grab everything that you normally whould defet by jumping on it's head.

I know in SMB 2 you could kill a Phanto if time was frozen AND you had star invincibility. No stopwatch means that's over! However, with just the star he'd rebound off of you a little. He floats right through you in this one, showing he's been beefed up a bit since the 80s. :p What's worst is, you could drop the key in SMB 2 but in the SMM games the keys just follow you, so he's on you like white on rice until you find either the door or your death! So many enemies are less powerful in this game, but Phanto has leveled up!
With the star, Phanto is scared. At least the star has *some* use against Phanto.
