Pay attention RPG developers - this is how spell animations should look, particularly the hard-hitting spells. The tornado, the ice spikes, the eruptions. There's a sense of style and awe here. Too many games take the simple and boring approach - basic fire spell is a fire ball, and the master fire spell is a more powerful fire ball. Ugh, borrrring.
Cody McBride you know what, dark souls does some magic great but other is terrible pyromancy is cool as hell and some divine magic like the lightning spear are great, but pretty much all sorcery and hex magic is magic missiles of diferent colors
KnowHope Amen! Only other game with anything close to this is Dragon age Inquisition buts even that hasn't got quite the same feel. Can't wait for a PC release of this!
Marko Stamenkovic Yeah, I played that and the magic was a pleasant surprise. I particularly enjoyed that one spell you get that deals fire, ice _and_ lightning damage in one move. The animation is super cool, how it transitions through the elements.
Brian Dougherty Thanks to the turn based JRPG Disgaea, my sense of power scaling is pretty thrown off since everyone and their mom can blow up a planet. Despite that, the magic in Dragon's Dogma seems hella cool and practical.
Dragon's Dogma let's you summon a freaking tornado and meteor rain. Meanwhile in Skyrim: Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt! (enemy loses 10% of HP)
Andrey Baldove i disagree i played that while having flashy spells the only good mage class is sadly knight enchanter with its op seild/barrier break wile makeing barrier
It's the same to me, but with Dragon Age instead. Being a mage in this game series is quite fun and interisting to be honest, which I can only recommend to people who want to try out soemthing new in topic spells and magic.
@@kprk4102 for me it is both.. Both have great effects in their own ways.. DD:DA has the casting times "high" versio of each spell, and many magic playstyle, including mage, sorcerer, magic archer, mystic knight.. while DAI has the strategic pause timing, controllable allies, and flashy effects.. The only magic effects that ive seen very dull is from skyrim😌
Magic in this game is good but it doesn't come close to Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. FE:LH is THE best magic experience i have ever had for sure
Everyone is all talking about how cool the spells LOOK, which is all well and good, but god damn they have some of the most badass sound effects. I love the clock slowing down noise that comes with Lassitude and how Petrification sounds like ashen stones rubbing together or something.
Chris Madden I'm not denying them at all. I've seen their skills pretty B.A. stuff, heck I've played as a warrior before and loved it. It's just that in most western RPGs magic tends to be more flare than substance; or you have the games where the look of magic is underwhelming, but the power of the spells is substantial. It's just nice to see one where they found a balance (a good balance at that) between the visual effect of magic and it's destructive power, or its beneficial powers.
LondonLock western style. He's aware it's a jrpg. But a lot of jrpgs are adapting to a western style meaning open world basically. Majority of jrpgs are pretty linear or limited to the open worldness
If you're playing a sorcerer, DEFINITELY keep High Lassitude with you. It doesn't seem as powerful at first, but it's extremely practical. You can cast its first stage extremely quickly, and it stacks with subsequent castings if it doesn't immediately activate. Hit a boss with multiple lassitudes and watch him slow into a crawl. Beyond that, you're also buying valuable time. It's hard enough to cast a Glicel or Maelstrom WITHOUT the boss trying to cream you. This spell gives you the chance to break open the heavens and unleash all hell without getting distracted. With that said, Happy Hunting! ^^
LgndHnter Couldn't agree more. Fireball is another good practical one as well. It has a very fast casting time and it can hit multiple targets. It also helps 80% of the monsters in this game are weak to fire.
Man the magic looks great, some of the best looking I've ever seen. I really want to go back and play this again, I used almost no magic during my playthrough so I didn't even know half of these spells existed.
***** I already received a Dark Arisen copy gratis and beat it multiple times along with the DLC lol, fantastic game. I have student loans to pay so another lap top is out of the question sadly.
When you unlock a spell for the first time, you can cast it by filling the bar. By ranking up with your class (Mage/Sorcerer in my video's case), you can unlock a more powerful version of that spell; it can still be casted in its first "level" by filling the first bar and releasing the button, but if you keep the button pressed after the first bar is filled, you'll start filling the second bar which will make you cast the second "level" of that spell.
Best magic in a game in my opinion. I love how powerful it feels, having your pawns distract crap so you can spend ages summoning a massive tornado is just awesome. Then it shoots everything into the air and you can watch it fall and die. Very satisfying.
2 years ago I saw this video and it made me want to play Dragon's Dogma so bad. Now after 500+ hrs. of gameplay, I can confidently say that this is one of the best rpg game I've ever played in my life and will forever remain as the most special to me. I'm so glad we are getting Dragon's Dogma 2!! I hope the franchise becomes much more popular in the upcoming years. I can't freaking wait 😭
OMG!!! That damn game I have played thru at least 5 times! Everytime a game comes out, I mutter under my breath, "Not Dragon's Dogma". It really is How Fantasy Combat should be in all games IMO. You know when you get stronger cause you can feel it behind your swings and spells. Not to mention my pawn was the ultimate Elfin Waifu. No other game has come close to scratching that itch.
@@DustinBarlow8P I just love the how powerful some spells feel especially since it takes a while to cast. You can just feel the power yourself after you finally release a long charge.
+ITpro91 The Magic/Enchanting system in Morrowind was near perfect imho. Oblivion dumbed it down majorly, then Skyrim dumbed THAT down. What was left was a joke. A few set spells that had no scaling so you actively tried NOT to level up as your spells didn't get stronger but enemies still did.
+ITpro91 Thanks to the classification of magic by the Mages Guild in the TES universe, much of the powerful magic left behind- some of it probably having been as powerful as seen in the video- was lost to time, for much of it did not "fit" into the definitions of each class. There is much in the realms of magic that Tamriel has lost... and perhaps, in future games, the magic of the past will be rediscovered, and will make its comeback.
+ITpro91 The point being, by leaving this empty space to be filled in the magic of TES, that gives them more to work with in future games. Pacing with the good stuff will get the games far, and Bethesda knows that. :)
+Madame D Considering the way they are going , I think it's more they(or Zenimax) knows that simplifying their systems will streamline their games to a bigger audience and make them more money, rather than sticking to the niche market of gamers who wants a complex RPG. By making the changes too lore, it's likely more them making an excuse for the simplified magic rather than leaving empty space.
+Rehl S Bitterblack was brutal, but the best part of the game. I only had one Dark type spell and it was a weapon augmentation, but it seemed to work really well. Especially against two of the bosses, the Knight Duo and the Bishop.
Its a lot of terrifying creatures and such in the world of Dragons Dogma, but from this I can say that it would only take one sorcerer for me to piss myself.
I love this game so much, I never seen combat done so beautifully and fun. Everything else however seemed to need a little work. Story, crafting, travel. Multiplier would've made this game a legend.
All those Sorc skills are cool, the actual skills atleast. Like the meteors, the ice skill, the big whirlwind, the thunder around you and the damn earth eruptions.
I'm playing as an assassin right now, but this video makes me want to replay later as a sorcerer. I utilize a sorcerer pawn now and he is kick-ass. Maelstrom is my favorite spell he uses.
+The Real Drunkard Hu unfortunately i don't have a good pc to play it. i was even considering buying the game on steam just to get the digital art book but i'm not sure if i will. i hope you guys have fun hahaha
The physics is damn fantastic in this game! If only Hogwarts Legacy could try…maybe they will, maybe they won’t. That’ll be embarrassing though for the Wizarding World if one lone Sorcerer could snap all of them in one-go
I also like the magic the Monsters can do. Like the griffin calling a thunder strike, or a drake taking control of your pawn while it slowly loses health. This game is seriously under rated. One of the best RPGs I've ever played
Just started the game I love it! What I don't like about the Sorcerer and Mage Class is that I am most of the time a ''run away and prepare a spell'' guy. Yes it feels awesome to have a Chimera hunt you and try to take cover behind rocks or trees or find places high enough to cast spells as long as the rest of your pawns fight the beast. I know we are talking about two extremely high damage, long range classes here and I am probably a noob who didn't master his Sorcerer yet, but I would love to have these specific spells for difficult situations. > I like Levitation and I was really impressed the first time I used it, but it would be great to have a spell to dash out of battle using powerful winds. It reminds me a lot of the magic system in The Wheel of Time novels, where casters took a back seat, preparing their large scale destructive spell while someone protected them.
+Behemothius I know right?! This will be the game with the best mage gamplay I know (perhaps there is a better one out there, but this is the most badass magic gameplay I know up to date!) totally going to go pure dark mage of course. Ive wanted this game on pc for years and its finally happening!!! :D
+jefthereaper Yeah. Was just about to start my PS3 game play when suddenly I heard of the PC version coming. Just a few more weeks. I can wait. I remember having a poor experience on KOM on console but the moment I switched to PC, wow, everything played so much smoother!
Andrey Baldove Dragon age Origins perhaps, but Dragon Age 2 only has a badly copied version of the magic of the first game with some (failed) experimentations, while Inquisition is just very lacking in skills and spells to start with as they have about 1/8th or 10th the amount of spells the previous games had, leave alone most focus skills don't even match the skilltree they are attached to, Dragon's Dogma has the most superior magic system I know to date, mainly as it really feels like you are a mage/sorcerer. I mean take firestorm from dragon age, that's nothing compared to Bolide from Dragon's Dogma.
Those spells the Sorcerer uses... they look Golden Axe-like overpowered. Example: flying meteors coming from clean sky, a tornado as tall as a castle, an electric field that reaches basically the entire battleground... Seriously, I almost thought I'd see a dragon come out of the sky to burn the hell out of everyone. If you know what I mean... ;)
MrDibara Mage: Pretty weak spells but low cast time, and can heal. Sorcerer: Cast time is so long that the battle could finish before you can even charge the normal (not the high) version of the spell, but if you cast the high version of the spell and the battle is not already finished, then it will finish when you cast it.
Watching this again in anticipation of DD2’s official announcement. So extremely excited for it, beyond basically any game in the last 10 years. Capcom as a company has improved so much in that time and I really believe will be smart enough to give the team the time and money they really need this go around, especially with how the director has proved himself. SO many weird wonky issues that I know they will learn from and address, but if they keep the core of what made combat so great I’d almost be satisfied with just an upgrade engine and new enemies. That’s just how good the combat in this game is, no other game in existence scratches that same itch.
Stats increase automatically, depending on your vocation, you don't have "stat points" to assign like in most other RPGs. Sorcerer vocation is the one that gives the most Magic power points per level up and you can switch to it from level 10. Until then, Mage is the obvious base vocation that gives more Magic power.
Man, some of these spells make you feel like an overpowered anime character busting up mountans and landscape, haha! I wish more games would do that. I had high hopes for Inquisition, due to Frostbyte 3 and destructabe enviroments.....but it failed.
yes, if you able to cast it before enemy hits you. maelstorm is take forever to cast ! (the tornado) but once execute it , even the dragon take a hard hit
DA:I was one of the most disappointing games combat wise. It was so slow, boring, and the attacks barely did anything. Enemies were bullet sponges and it was grindy as heck. I felt so weak and there was no healing at all..
Thanks for the video! I didn't know this game had such awesome magic system! I only played the demo and, if I remember correctly, it didn't allow you to play a mage.
I'm so glad I played this game before watching any videos on youtube. First time I casted meteor and typhoon. I felt like a God. Feels like summoning Ramuh in FF XV. DD for me felt like it was ahead of it's time. This game is criminally underrated.
Normally I'm not a fan of mage main characters at RPGs. I like them more as a team mate. This is the only game I like playing as a mage main character because holy shit this game makes you feel like a god when you play as a mage.
With fulmination. If you have pawns, when. You hold light or heavy you remain immobile but electrify your pawns, anything that gets near them is continuously fried. It's boss
just started playing i cant wait to get this stuff. The tornado is so badass. Using it with the mages lightning strike and high glicel will be the perfect storm.
I wanted a young character. In RPGs I always choose "Wizard" class and make an old character with long white hair and beard, like Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, but here in Dragon's Dogma I didn't like my old-man character I made so I turned him into a young ~20 years old guy even, if I don't really like him too but I didn't want to waste too much time in character creation, I couldn't wait to begin this game!
successfully summoning 3 maelstroms in an enclosed space and KILLING the boss is some of the most satisfying gameplay I've ever experienced. Praying DD2 keeps this same energy.
Just bought the ps4 remaster, I wasn't patient enough with magic in the original ps3 verson. So I've been tinkering with magic in my new playthrough, yea you're a bit squishy at first, but after several levels and learning where to position yourself. It's highly addictive.
Do NOT get High Anodyne for your pawn. They will always cast the fully charged version which just means their only healing spell now takes twice as long to cast.
Damn those Sorceror skills are amazing. I wish there were also epic evil skills like grabbing a minion with your power, and throwing it away. Or grabbing it and just exploding it with your mind =D
Yeah I'm confused why games can't put epic skills on sorceror, look at for example the Naruto Anime, Gaara's skills, I wouldn't mind having sand attacks on a mage in a game xP.
Kinda, but alot of those higher damaging spells can take an age to cast which can leave you wide open to attack, especially bad in tight corners. That said with enough time played and experience with a variety of foes you'll generally get a pretty good feel for when its time to use the shorter cast but less powerful spells in a pinch vs when it's the near perfect opportunity to dish out the mightiest of your incantations. It's a lot of fun once you've mastered the game's mechanics and know how the various enemy types behave and know all their nasty little tricks to either avoid them or even interrupt them.
nice demonstrations. I never think about making this video. Very good job. I have not finished the entire video yet, but just two things want to say because it seems like you forget to show. The High Brontide also has heave attack (up to down attack instead left and right). It is crucial to use when attacking cyclops as its weak spot is in the head and pretty much once you hit the cyclop with the heavy attach of the High Brotide, it will be stunned and not moving for a while. The second thing is the High level fire ball magic and I am not aure how many people are aware of it. This magic can actually hit more than 2 targets at the same time. Move the targeting ring to different targets while enchanting, and when you release the magic, the fire balls will shoot to those were aimed. The only down side is because of split the force to different targets, so each individual only gets certain amount of damage, instead a lot of dagame. But this can be overcomed if your magic attach has increased. Then you can actually kill 2~3 targets at once.
I started as a Mage and switched to Sorcerer at about level 20 or 25 if I recall correctly, then I leveled up to level 200 being always Sorcerer, I've never switched to other classes. In order to achieve the highest Magic power possible, you have to start as a Mage and switch to Sorcerer when you reach level 10.
1) Pawns with Mage vacation? First they must have an healing spell, then they automatically heal you (or a pawn) when you are injured, replenishing the gray bar after the green bar (check my health at 3:00) 2) As I wrote at 14:54, Sorcerers can't use Mage vocation's healing spells, only offensive-type spells.
I wish they would remaster this game for PS4, I'd so buy it again! I never got a chance to use the seism spell, it looks so badass! I did however use maelstrom to my heart's content :)
This game and Kingdom of Amalur have some serious cool looking magic and skill, sadly both game suffer from mediocare story and character. Still I hoping both game got a sequel.

Coming to PC! Hell yes.
+Behemothius isn't it funny how many cool games on Consoles eventually end up on a PC platform
+Behemothius I know right?! This will be the game with the best mage gamplay I know (perhaps there is a better one out there, but this is the most badass magic gameplay I know up to date!)
totally going to go pure dark mage of course.
+jefthereaper There are many magic systems better than this. Dragon Age has much more to offer tho.
Andrey Baldove
Dragon age Origins perhaps, but Dragon Age 2 only has a badly copied version of the magic of the first game with some (failed) experimentations,
while Inquisition is just very lacking in skills and spells to start with as they have about 1/8th or 10th the amount of spells the previous games had, leave alone most focus skills don't even match the skilltree they are attached to,
Dragon's Dogma has the most superior magic system I know to date,
mainly as it really feels like you are a mage/sorcerer.
I mean take firestorm from dragon age, that's nothing compared to Bolide from Dragon's Dogma.
Charges up High Seism/Maelstrom/Gicel
Enemy flaps wings to cancel said charge
+Ty “Metroidsia” Spikes lol especially when you are 99.9% done casting.
Magic Me Or if you do a High Exequy as well
There’s a skill to avoid being stopped
I miss playing this so much😥
The most satisfying magic system ever.
This is the kind of Magic i wish we had in Skyrim. Might buy this game. Hope the pawns won't be to annoying
So happy I finally decided to pick this up on the switch, passed it up so many times just because I never looked into what it was.
DAMN MAGIC YOU SCARY
geez 23+ i am shock
the fuck its gone up to 31 likes lol
Lol
Watching this again in anticipation of DD2’s official announcement. So extremely excited for it, beyond basically any game in the last 10 years. Capcom as a company has improved so much in that time and I really believe will be smart enough to give the team the time and money they really need this go around, especially with how the director has proved himself. SO many weird wonky issues that I know they will learn from and address, but if they keep the core of what made combat so great I’d almost be satisfied with just an upgrade engine and new enemies. That’s just how good the combat in this game is, no other game in existence scratches that same itch.
these are like final fantasy spells done right
this is what a mage should be basically a god
just got this game again because i loved it so much but i never actually fucked with the magic
the magic in this game is really something all of it has a flare to it which makes it look real fun
Same
this game is like the witcher but without invisible walls
ngl this video made me buy Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen and now it is my most favorite RPG ever.
Ok. Definitely some of the most creative spell animations + variations I've ever witnessed. The Netflix series got me here... Oo
It's 2019 and I want to play this game as a mage now. This is a great video!
Your pawns name is Solaire. Do you praise the sun?
This explains why i found my cows dead this morning.
(the tornado)
but once execute it , even the dragon take a hard hit
DA:I was one of the most disappointing games combat wise. It was so slow, boring, and the attacks barely did anything. Enemies were bullet sponges and it was grindy as heck. I felt so weak and there was no healing at all..
Thanks for the video! I didn't know this game had such awesome magic system! I only played the demo and, if I remember correctly, it didn't allow you to play a mage.
Best magic casting game with great animation castings as well, top notch
Animations are excellent, this is going to be inspiration for spell descriptions in the DND session I run. Thank you for the upload.
This is the only game I like playing as a mage main character because holy shit this game makes you feel like a god when you play as a mage.
this is the only game that made me feel like a really powerful mage in my opinion
With fulmination. If you have pawns, when. You hold light or heavy you remain immobile but electrify your pawns, anything that gets near them is continuously fried. It's boss
Ya know, there really needs to be an RPG that focuses entirely on Magic.
OMFG the sorcerer spells. shiiiiiieeeeet!!!! XD
Why wasn't skyrim's magic like this? It would be so much cooler!
This was the first game that the magician feels magician. There is no other game like it until today.
Game dev taking notes here. Don't mind me.
Great video! Never heard of this game, but I'm getting it now. Best spell animations of any game I've seen.
You can cast a FREAKING TORNADO!?????? I should make a mage build this time....
Love it. The graphics and animation is not overwhelming, just right, I also love the color palette not flashy.
2021 and still nothing beats this
this is so true... DD2 oh DD2 :(
There’s good news 👺 DD2 is coming
Gicel is still to this day one of the coolest animations for a spell I've seen.
Thanks for the vid. Just got the game and I'm trying strider, but also wanted to check how the mage worked.
just started playing i cant wait to get this stuff. The tornado is so badass. Using it with the mages lightning strike and high glicel will be the perfect storm.
i looooooooove this game to death im waiting for its sequel on ps4 it is day one for me
Hussein Alalawi Sadly they killed off the franchise now, they turned it in to free to play MMO. God dammit, Capcom!!!!!
+Marko Stamenkovic dont lose the hope
Hussein Q the game is coming out next month for ps4 and XboxOne!!!
Reale, it's now been released. Here to a DD:2!
Returning for a visit after 2 is out
I wish more spells were kept
Comeback here after playing dragon's dogma 2 and damn sorcerer in dragon dogma 2 is such disappointing
Maelstrom, Glicel and Holy focused bolt are my precious spells ❤
I wanted a young character. In RPGs I always choose "Wizard" class and make an old character with long white hair and beard, like Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, but here in Dragon's Dogma I didn't like my old-man character I made so I turned him into a young ~20 years old guy even, if I don't really like him too but I didn't want to waste too much time in character creation, I couldn't wait to begin this game!
forgot how much fun the magic class is in this game.I think I'm going to play one after I finish the warrior run. Cool video!
the best looking effects of all rpg games even 2015 rpgs
successfully summoning 3 maelstroms in an enclosed space and KILLING the boss is some of the most satisfying gameplay I've ever experienced. Praying DD2 keeps this same energy.
This game feels more like Dungeons and Dragons then tons of others that are based upon.
Just bought the ps4 remaster, I wasn't patient enough with magic in the original ps3 verson. So I've been tinkering with magic in my new playthrough, yea you're a bit squishy at first, but after several levels and learning where to position yourself. It's highly addictive.
I never noticed the goblins are actually saying stuff
Aresh Septango it's a human!
bloody human!!
Do NOT get High Anodyne for your pawn. They will always cast the fully charged version which just means their only healing spell now takes twice as long to cast.
Please remaster or remake this game I loved this game ima play it again on my PS5
EVERY fight was won with 'tornado/icespikes/repeat' combo once you hit sorceress...
Holy Fucking Shit, I need that game.
Damn those Sorceror skills are amazing. I wish there were also epic evil skills like grabbing a minion with your power, and throwing it away. Or grabbing it and just exploding it with your mind =D
Psychinc powers? Yeah, I love them too. Too bad there's almost no games with this kinda thing.
Yeah I'm confused why games can't put epic skills on sorceror, look at for example the Naruto Anime, Gaara's skills, I wouldn't mind having sand attacks on a mage in a game xP.
You do have Grapnel, which sends dark tentacles to grab and deal Dark damage to a target.
I want a dragon's dogma 2. With co-op mode !
Zetto46 yes
Zetto46 let’s bug them till they make another one
The creator said it is the game he wants to do the most now that DMC5 is done
dualwieldroxas358 YEAH BOIIII!!!
Dragon's Dogma might be one of the best RPG's I've played, these sorcerer's skills are just hands down the best magic moves I've seen in an RPG.
So you're basically a demi god in this vocation class.
@@navilluscire2567 That's understandable.
nice demonstrations.
Coming back after watching Hogwart's Legacy magic.
Who's here playing it at 2020
Playing is 2022 boi
1) Pawns with Mage vacation? First they must have an healing spell, then they automatically heal you (or a pawn) when you are injured, replenishing the gray bar after the green bar (check my health at 3:00)
2) As I wrote at 14:54, Sorcerers can't use Mage vocation's healing spells, only offensive-type spells.
I wish they would remaster this game for PS4, I'd so buy it again! I never got a chance to use the seism spell, it looks so badass! I did however use maelstrom to my heart's content :)
Got your wish!
This game is so goated idk how it wasn’t even acknowledged by most people.
This game and Kingdom of Amalur have some serious cool looking magic and skill, sadly both game suffer from mediocare story and character. Still I hoping both game got a sequel.
with the next game coming in like a week, i just started this one. Can't believe i slept on this. it's a ton of fun
That tornado tho 11:30 😍😍😍😍 too bad its not for ps4 :(
+Khaled cool It'll be out for PC in 2 days...
It's coming to PS4 this month!
Wicked Kid I
October 3rd my friend
Literally the best Magic in any game recently bought DD DA and have played every fantasy rpg under the sun. Never going back to any of them! ok maybe FF (old ones like 12) cause it's my fave but still best magic I have ever seen ever!
