    Gifts once given - yours to do with what you wish. Or so it goes, in my mind😬😬except for the amazing scarf I bought for my Mother Inlaw (ex). The scarf that was gifted back to me, by her daughter, for a birthday. 😂 I will never get rid of the traveling scarf. 😂😂😂

    Even though I have lived simply and small (and now tiny) for some time now = I always enjoy hearing others tips!
    When I downsized my old yearbooks - I ripped out the pages I was on, and then scanned those with my photos/negatives.
    One tip that may help with your pen obsession is to practice the first R in the low (or zero) waste lifestyle of REFUSE. (Which is still hard for me when it’s free!!!) Then it’s reduce, reuse, recycle, and rot.
    Hope to meet you on the road someday,
    Kari

    We're getting ready to commit to RV living upon retirements and are looking for our best options. We're still in the planning phase and still have to work through the logistics. Still looking for the best RV and truck for our needs. The budget is worked and we're 95% in. Much weighs on if we look at a 2yr living or life.
    I enjoyed 80% of this video. Having moved more than 12 times in the last 24 years, purging has become a staple. Clothing and books/files are a huge part of the purge. Organizing and advertising a Garage sales are imperative for sure! I loved the idea of the drawers in the kitchen since that seems to be my weakest place to purge.......and the closet. But I'm trying.
    I noticed you didn't talk about whether or not you have a storage unit? I don't know how long you where in the military but there have been years of things given. You didn't address what you did with those things. Did you give away/throw away the awards/plaques/gifts/shadow boxes? If not where did you put them and prioritize the keepers?
    I have MAJOR reservations when it comes to getting rid of memories. Most often those memories are not intended for you in the end......if you get what I mean. I'm so grateful that my mother still had a trunk of memories, from pictures, letters, year books, military and law enforcement memories, along with our past family line. We also have our own trunk that has the same setup for our son. We have reorganized it multiple times and upgraded the technology of stored digital material (with a backup). Scanning pictures and strategically placing treasured photos in practical albums and digital frames. I am no hoarder, in case you're wondering! I just want to ensure I provide a wonderful treasure box of family history for those to come. We've has this going for 100's of years and pictures and items move to family members over time that bring them joy. That's the awesomeness about it. Yes, many items are placed in a chest and stay there for months on end....that's ok. The best part comes out at family gatherings when we sift through memories and exchange those memories, making a rule that they must fit within a chest. So it's manageable.
    This is just my take on it and memories are different for different people. I lost my mother suddenly and only have my father and my grandma. Preserving the family journey is important to us and so that's my take on it.
    By no means am I trying to be critical. I'm actually enjoying your videos thus far, which were recommended but the CHANGING LANES TH-cam Channel. I just wanted to give a different perspective on who may value those memories more and options on keeping them. No right or wrong answer....just opinions. You guys are the most relatable by far do I look forward to going through and watching more of your videos. Thank you for assisting us in this scary new place and as we try to navigate it all. There's nothing quite like retiring during a pandemic! Cheers!

      My daughter actually put post it notes on everything she wanted! lol She did get a lot of my sentimental items and there are a few in storage (we have a 10x10 that will go down to a 5x10 after the first of the year). She also now has all 14 of my Christmas bins so those memories now decorate her house which we both love. My son only has one small box with the items he requested. Although, it sits in our storage since he is in the Navy and doesn't have room for it.

    Just moved from a house of 25 years (4.4 acres) We purged a lot, but have much more to go through. Did you find it difficult to drop off your items at a thrift store, as I find they are pretty over whelmed. That is one of my glitches. :/ hard to drop off my stuff.

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not have trouble with dropping stuff off at thrift stores. I kinda saw it as recycling. If you have a big load some thrift stores will bring a truck to you especially if you have furniture. Phil had a harder time than I did so I think me driving it away made it easier for us. May you can let the hubs drive it all away.

      bhharris Phil had a very hard time too! But once we got started it did get much easier for him. You could make a book with some of your sentimental items. Take a pic of the item and write a few lines about why it means so much to you. You could use Shutterfly. It would make an amazing book of memories. Good luck with your purge.
