Tbh the Jevil was what made the game worth playing. Even if you don't enjoy the story or the dialogue or the gameplay itself, YOU WILL enjoy that battle, the music, the character and the way it plays out it's just damn fun to play. If toby has more fights like that planned for the future, he can count me in, regardless of everything else. Plus I'm always looking forward to his music lol.
The fact there was an optional boss in the first chapter gives me lots of hope especially when you compare it to the optional bosses of undertale. Im betting there will be even more and each ramping up the difficulty
Dude, the combat system in this game was so much better than the original. I love the overworld dodging much better getting hit by a spear and having a chance to not lose health, and the fighting, and act menus was so much better, and the magic thing was awesome. It’s cool to see how the battle system was much more fleshed out than the original. The battle music was incredible too, my favorite being lancer’s battle theme. Jevil’s theme and the song when Susie fights lancer are close seconds. Edit: woah, 100 likes already. That was fast

I actually don't see Lancer as Sans and Papyrus smashed into one, it's more like he's an inverted sans. He's the polar opposite. Sans wants to be good and is good at it, Lancer wants to be bad and is bad at it. Sans practically teleports somewhere else every time he leaves the area, Lancer literally goes nowhere whenever he leaves the area. Sans is a serious character who acts goofy and funny, Lancer is a goofy, funny character who tries to be taken seriously. Everyone(in-game) likes Sans, no one likes Lancer Complete opposite of Sans. But he's a precious boy and I love him.

After Sans leaves, if you stay and chat with everyone, they go on about how much they like him/what a cool guy he is. Contrast that with Lancer's treatment in Deltarune. When Lancer's not around, everyone's griping and gossiping about how weird he is and how they wish they didn't have to hang around him. That's what I'm getting at.

Actually, according to town dialogue, Kris is a very active character and is known to be a town prankster. He's worn devil costume horns to feel more like his parents (for a month) and so on that really I don't think the ending was a scary he is Chara spook. I think he was actually pranking you because that's the kind of person he just is.
This made me love Jevil who I still haven’t beaten lol. I think when Tobyfox said that there will be one ending people got all scared about the “your choices don’t matter!” Thing and that the story will also be linear because of it. I don’t think that’s the case. I simply think that the choices you make when you play (whatever those may be) will affect the overall story, not the ending. Maybe similar to night in the woods where your choices didn’t really affect the ending much but you got to learn more about the characters you did choose to hang out with.

I actually think it's all a red hering. It tells you your choices don't matter so you try to kill everything. Then you pay for it in the end with an insanely hard boss fight, similar to Sans. I think you're progress will go into the actual game once it is officially released, and then you will slowly realize " Oh! So that's why I needed to battle Jevil!" or "Oh! So that's why I needed to stop Susie!". Magic.

Yah, don't get me wrong, I love both Undertale and DeltaRune to bits but I hate those few things I know the fandom will eventually start abusing... If it indeed was meant to be a joke, some may not be a fan of it).

Ralsei is a character that the game can do without. Much like Asriel, they only exist to show you to NOT kill someone. Fuck what the game wants me to do, murder is fun.
I actually disagree with you regarding Susie's character arc. While it does have the same beginning and end points, the process is wildly different than the other redemption arcs I've seen. It isn't Kris or Ralsei that get her to turn; it's Lancer, who actually encourages her poor behavior and even mimicks it. He doesn't encourage her at all to change. He doesn't set a good example. Instead he wiggles his way into her heart by being a mirror and a little brother figure. Then when her actions pose a threat to him, she voluntarily turns face. She's not motivated therefore by morality, but by love. She hasn't seen the light, per say, because she doesn't see a problem with fighting by the end of it all, but she has grown to protect people other than herself. If this were a more traditional redemption arcs, the C. Round fight would be the actual turning point, not the false start.
Susie is by far my favorite character for this reason alone, Having a character that grows so much throughout the course of a story really makes that character feel human .. At least as human as a dinosaur/dog/dragon thing can be.

Bth i never saw susie as a hot headed character she just had a really prickly shield and actually for a good reason... If you go threw the dailog you will find that susie was a shy, akward, and very strong kid who was also quiet... which everyone look as a creepy stalker way and just shunned her entirly because of it... instead of finding friends she landed in the 'no click' zone and simply started to lash out. Ironically i had a classmate end up in almost the exact same situation as susie and he was quite, always got bullied, and would get frustrated and got a bit into a rant to vent. If he had been a bit stronger and not as slow (he had some major disability im not sure what it was tho) im sure he would of ended up like susie or worse. Moral of susie: small schools are the worst
I agree, she’s like that because nobody wanted to be her friend due to the fact that people saw her as threatening or creepy. That’s why she started to change when she became friends with Lancer, someone who accepted her (and even looked up to her) for who she was instead of avoiding her like the plague like everyone at school. On top of her school life, some of Susie’s dialogue and actions in the game seem to hint towards her home life not being all that good either.
Her pants have holes in them and they don't seem to be that way by design and she's eating whatever non food items she can somethings probably definitely up in her home life

Somehow I like the concept that your choices don't matter, because I like the concept of being able to reach the end through your own means. Also, this was pretty thorough for simply a preview, given that they managed to show off the uniquely different battle system, and the theme of the game. Another thing I'm a huge fan of is having multiple party members, a flaw I saw in undertale was that, except the various phone calls you'd make, you'd be pretty isolated while adventuring through the Underground. All in all, I feel like Delta Rune is a good step up from Undertale, and I'm excited to see what the finished product would look like.
No matter how alone you feel or how far away you might feel from the right path, don't abandon your principles or your friends. Just because you "can" doesn't mean you "have to". In the end they'll always be with you in one way or another and true colours will be shown sooner or later, try not to darken yourself for you will also darken their world by darkening yours. Another good thing to remember is that in todays world reaching out to them in reality might be just as easy as making a call... I feel like it was imperative for the game Undertale wanted to be that it is somewhat sectioned to show the contrast and meaning it wants to convey through that design.
I wished there were more party members too! Though there's an AU called Inverted Fate in which Papyrus travels with Frisk through the Underground. But SomniaSalis, you should try writing an AU where some of the Undertale characters are party members.
Now I know people are saying Scott called it, But what if, what if, Toby was still deciding how exactly he wanted the next day to start when he watched this video, and then Scott's comment about the knife being for the pie inspired him to make Toriel say that.
I don't mind how Susie may be a cliche hot-head. Because she plays a very central role in conveying the themes of Deltarune, not only with her personality, but also with how well the gameplay reflects it. From what I can gather, Deltarune's most central theme is teamwork. The very first time you gain control of Kris is to select partners for a team assignment. And of course, there's the obvious fact that this game is a turn based RPG where the characters work together in combat and some puzzle solving. If you're playing a pacifist route, Susie is pretty much the definition of an uncooparative member of the team and thus challenges the idea of teamwork.

I actually disagree with you regarding Susie's character arc. While it does have the same beginning and end points, the process is wildly different than the other redemption arcs I've seen. It isn't Kris or Ralsei that get her to turn; it's Lancer, who actually encourages her poor behavior and even mimicks it. He doesn't encourage her at all to change. He doesn't set a good example. Instead he wiggles his way into her heart by being a mirror and a little brother figure. Then when her actions pose a threat to him, she voluntarily turns face. She's not motivated therefore by morality, but by love. She hasn't seen the light, per say, because she doesn't see a problem with fighting by the end of it all, but she has grown to protect people other than herself. If this were a more traditional redemption arcs, the C. Round fight would be the actual turning point, not the false start.

Bth i never saw susie as a hot headed character she just had a really prickly shield and actually for a good reason...
If you go threw the dailog you will find that susie was a shy, akward, and very strong kid who was also quiet... which everyone look as a creepy stalker way and just shunned her entirly because of it... instead of finding friends she landed in the 'no click' zone and simply started to lash out. Ironically i had a classmate end up in almost the exact same situation as susie and he was quite, always got bullied, and would get frustrated and got a bit into a rant to vent. If he had been a bit stronger and not as slow (he had some major disability im not sure what it was tho) im sure he would of ended up like susie or worse.

I agree, she’s like that because nobody wanted to be her friend due to the fact that people saw her as threatening or creepy. That’s why she started to change when she became friends with Lancer, someone who accepted her (and even looked up to her) for who she was instead of avoiding her like the plague like everyone at school. On top of her school life, some of Susie’s dialogue and actions in the game seem to hint towards her home life not being all that good either.

Bloody hell that gained likes quickly
Somehow I like the concept that your choices don't matter, because I like the concept of being able to reach the end through your own means. Also, this was pretty thorough for simply a preview, given that they managed to show off the uniquely different battle system, and the theme of the game. Another thing I'm a huge fan of is having multiple party members, a flaw I saw in undertale was that, except the various phone calls you'd make, you'd be pretty isolated while adventuring through the Underground. All in all, I feel like Delta Rune is a good step up from Undertale, and I'm excited to see what the finished product would look like.
No matter how alone you feel or how far away you might feel from the right path, don't abandon your principles or your friends. Just because you "can" doesn't mean you "have to". In the end they'll always be with you in one way or another and true colours will be shown sooner or later, try not to darken yourself for you will also darken their world by darkening yours. Another good thing to remember is that in todays world reaching out to them in reality might be just as easy as making a call...
I feel like it was imperative for the game Undertale wanted to be that it is somewhat sectioned to show the contrast and meaning it wants to convey through that design.
I wished there were more party members too! Though there's an AU called Inverted Fate in which Papyrus travels with Frisk through the Underground.
But SomniaSalis, you should try writing an AU where some of the Undertale characters are party members.

The pie-cutting theory...it's real...BY GOD IT'S REAL!
I don't mind how Susie may be a cliche hot-head. Because she plays a very central role in conveying the themes of Deltarune, not only with her personality, but also with how well the gameplay reflects it.
From what I can gather, Deltarune's most central theme is teamwork. The very first time you gain control of Kris is to select partners for a team assignment. And of course, there's the obvious fact that this game is a turn based RPG where the characters work together in combat and some puzzle solving. If you're playing a pacifist route, Susie is pretty much the definition of an uncooparative member of the team and thus challenges the idea of teamwork.
The whole hothead character becomes nicer thing is done to death, but since its done well i really dont care
