I always played scooped, except recording. There I flattered out (just a little) to give us some headroom for mixing. Back in the day, easy to remove mids, but hard to increase what wasn't there during the take. For playing live or rehearsal, scooped was LIFE!
I've always had a bit of a mid bump in my tone, but the moment I started trying to loop my tracks and mix guitars, I created an awful fuzzball of mids 😅. I learned a valuable lesson that scooped is a wonderful tool! Sounds like you've got some great experience! Thanks for sharing and being here!! Happy shreddin'! 🎸🔥
Great tone and playing on the front end Slyde ! Your exactly right !! Scooped all the way !! I find as well as you do you get a better tighter buzzsaw more attack METAL tone with the MIDS scooped !!!!! I SCOOP MY MIDS ON ALL 6 OF MY AMPS 95 percent of the time...I play the heavy metal such as Korn, Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica so you get that more grindy buzzsaw THICK attack tone playing the metal groups like we play when we are distorted out.Hey about distortion pedals, I am going to buy a few more here soon,, what do y ou like between,Joyo distortion pedals,Gamma Atlas distortion pedal,MXR distortion pedals,Boss Metal core,Boss Metal Zone,Azor Snake distortion, Azor heavy metal distortion pedal. I have a Gamma HADES heavy metal distortion pedal, digitech multi effects pedal right now along with the Azor compressor pedal. I guess you knew about Azor distortion pedal? They have good reviews on the cheap Azor distortion. What do you think about all these other distortion pedals for the strongest most BRUTAL METAL tones?? Most of these have good reviews...(My guitar buddy wants to sell me a ZOOM multi effects digital pedal which I have tried and has some great metal settings as well)...METAL ON !!🤘🤘🤘
Indeed! Scooped mids really help tighten down a metal tone, especially with amps that already have a ton of midrange like my Blackstar. As for the distortion pedals, I have always leaned heavily towards Boss. In fact I have first hand experience with both the Metal Zone and Metalcore, and absolutely love both. And they sound great with an overdrive boost. I have looked at the Azor several times but I haven't bought their distortion yet, though it is tempting at the price. So far I've loved both my Azor Compressor and Chorus. I'd also like to throw in the DOD/DigiTech Grunge out there for consideration. Used one a lot in my younger days and I love it for its ridiculous gain and heavy grind. Out of production now, but still on the used market often. Happy shreddin'!! 🔥🔥🎸
i have a katana 50 with the tone studio and ive gotten better with my eq settings. i noticed you have a few amps. how do you like the blackstar compared to the katana? high gain of course. also i understand youll need external pedals for the blackstar.
For me, the Blackstar hands down. I like the Katana, it has a lot going for it for sure, but the Blackstar has a more natural overdrive tone. Actually, all the background music in this video was recorded on the Blackstar, without any additional pedals for gain. I've only recently added a boost up front to tighten things up a little, but the amp doesn't really need any help to chug. But, it's way more expensive than the Katana, and you get a lot for your money with the Katana. Amp models, boosts, effects and so on. They're both great, but the Blackstar was a goal of mine for 12 years or so, and I still can't believe I got it. Happy shreddin' and thanks for the great question!
cool video man. thanks for sharing!
