I pretty much learned Drop D just from Soundgarden riffs. So many good ones to pick from just one band. Outshined, Spoonman, Taree, Nothing To Say, the list just keeps going!

Nobody wants to say it, but I’ll say it.
    Creed.
Higher, What If, My Own Prison, Torn, One, and With Arms Wide Open, pretty much everything from the first two albums is in drop D. Being able to play such popular songs at my skill level at the time was a huge boost of confidence. Tremonti has evolved quite a bit since then, but he has always had a knack for writing catchy riffs.

For me it was Everlong (Foo Fighters), Killing In the Name (RATM), Spoonman (Soundgarden), Heart Shaped Box (Nirvana - also I know it's Drop C# but when I was first starting out as a kid my teacher showed it to me in Drop D), Unnatural Selection (Muse) and Moby Dick (Led Zeppelin), I've also written some of my own Drop D riffs as well and I think they're some of my best guitar parts that I've come up with and I'm really proud of how they sounded

the technical term for what ur describing is “Timbre” (Tam-Bur) if you’re interested in looking more into it. i also find it fascinating how you can have 100 guitarists play the same riff, same notes, same timing, and you can hear a slight difference in each one of them. it’s super cool when it gets to the point where you know exactly who it is playing just by using your ears
another cool factor with timbre, i don’t watch this channel as lucratively as you probably do (since u said ur picking up on the little things he does i assume you’re a fan), i don’t have the ability to hear his timbre, so what i hear and what you hear are the same exact sound waves, but we aren’t hearing the same thing. your ear/brain whatever it is, is picking up on stuff that mine doesn’t even know to look for. badass stuff!
only a guitarist would call that bit of knowledge badass😂 everyone thinks we’re drug frenzied sex icons, when in reality 9 out of 10 of us are just glorified ultra nerds, i probably spend more time studying theory and practicing than the engineering major that most folks consider the actual nerd lmao

My Drop D adventures mostly revolved around Billy Talent. I think 99% of there songs were written in Drop D and they have a ton of great riffs but Ian D'Sa also incorporates a variety of of different styles into his playing creating something truly unique and recognisable. My favourite riffs would be Fallen leaves, Devil in a midnight mass, Dead Can't testify, Viking Death March and Surprise Surprise.

Was a big Creed fan back in the early 2000's when I started trying to play, and the first full song I learned was My Own Prison. They had put the sheet music and tabs up on their website for One and My Own Prison and I remember how good it felt to learn a full song within a couple weeks of picking it up! Still a pretty decent and easy drop D song for a beginner to start with, tbh.

I live across the street from a park and it's great that there are electrical outlets. Every once in a while I take my amp and guitar outside so I can turn it up and really enjoy my amp cranked. But usually there are also other people playing music (from their cars, blasted) so I rarely get to really enjoy it by myself. There are always mini concerts going on when it's warm enough.

I started off learning every Drop D Three Days Grace song I could. They've always been one of my most favourite bands even to this day. Animal I Have Become is the first song I learnt, I remember the first time finally playing the riff in full and realising how amazing Drop D was that something this, theory wise, simple could sound so cool. And then I realised the song was in Drop C not D lmao. Drop C is pretty great tho, and nowadays I'm in Drop A but I will always believe Drop D to be the best guitar tuning.

I can't remember who's house I was at but back in high school I remember wanting to learn Everlong from Foo Fighters and at that time I was trying to learn by ear and then I said screw it, Ultimate Guitar Tabs I went. I looked at the tabs and I was playing every chord right but none of it sounded right for some reason... lol lo and behold the tuning was DADGBE and I thought what the hell is that? you can do that? I finally figured out what the D was from the low E and it changed my life. Still to this day now at 33, those chord shapes have been the foundation for my writing basics and jumping off points when I write my songs. Thank you Grohl for my gateway riff to writing epic metal core, djent, prog and every other genre I feel like playing on any given day.

There is this Brazilian band called RAIMUNDOS, their second album by the name of Lavô Tá Novo and third album called Lapadas do Povo, both albums packed with some juicy riffs in Drop D, check them out, i would personally love to see their stuff in your channel, amazing band, definitely deserve the attention of foreigners, they've walked along Sepultura at their early days back in the 90s.
    P.S Cool scar!

Drop D taught me that you can't change tuning on a floyd rose trem without setting it up first. I also broke every string on my guitar trying to do the beginning of Poundcake by VH. Have to realize this was years before TH-cam and before it was tabbed out in a guitar magazine. I thought he was lightly touching the strings. Years later I learned it's all about the pickup.

You should really do a video on your favourite Mike Einziger/Incubus riffs I was telling a friend what an underrated player he is and there’s a real lack of videos on TH-cam showing his songs in detail or playing his riffs in general

Nowadays, Gnome has me stuck in the D. Ambrosius, Bulls of Bravik, Kraken Wanker, literally dozens of fantastic drop D licks and riffs

Certainly not drop d, but when thinking of “heavier” sounding music, King’s X and Big Wreck come to mind! If you haven’t heard of them, look them up on TH-cam right after this, I’ll bet you won’t be disappointed! Masters of different or alternate tunings! Cheers from 🇨🇦

As I was in high school from fall of 96- to summer of 2001…yeah, later summer than I hoped….my drop D education was a lot of Tool and Deftones. of course any Drop D songs from Alice In Chains, Soundgarden…oh yeah, Days of the New!…even stuff like Silverchair and Collective Soul’s first couple albums.
Lol I forgot about that stint in summer school. I remember them stating u couldn’t miss any classes of the 2 weeks or whatever it was, but the teacher happened to be one of the student teachers that did his practicum at my school the previous year, and he happened to be metalhead and understood that I wouldn’t be showing up the day of, and the day after the Pantera/Slayer show.
