Join me on an extraordinary wildlife adventure in the Sabi Sands during the lockdown. In this Sony Alpha wildlife photography series, I had the opportunity to explore the deserted reserves, capturing mesmerising moments with the majestic creatures that roam freely. Little did I know, however, that my encounter with a seemingly peaceful white rhino bull would take an unexpected turn, putting my many years of experience to the ultimate test.
As I focused my lens on the tranquil rhino bull, little did I anticipate the sudden shift in its behaviour when I started the car and began to reverse. Without any warning, the peaceful atmosphere shattered, and the rhino charged towards me, triggering a wild chase that lasted for about a kilometer. With my camera shaken loose on its mount, capturing the rhino's shadow as I stopped to face off the charge.
Feel the adrenaline rush as I recount the intense moments when I found myself manoeuvring through the bush, off-road, and in reverse to avoid a powerful rhino collision. The limited space pushed me to confront the immense challenge head-on, as I fought back against the charging beast, my camera trembling in my hands. Witness the gripping visuals of his shadow looming over me, serving as a stark reminder of the danger I faced in that life-or-death struggle.
