I hope the paintball canister is better than the sodastream as far as containing a higher psi level! Sodastream CO² canisters are not intended for the purpose of providing CO² to one's aquarium. They're basically under pressured right from the get-go and can cause damage to the regulator over the long run. This isn't an experience I've ever had to deal with but from an (unspecified) manufacture's email I recently received as a reply to an ongoing discussion.
Yep! Been running them for years with no issues. This regulator was specifically designed to work with paintball tank setups. It also works on 90g UNS cartridges as well as CGA320 connections, like your standard 5lb tank. Its an awesome little regulator.
Correct. The power adapter simply controls the solenoid. It opens and closes the flow of CO2, but it does not control how much flow. It's just an on and off switch. The large value connected to the regulator controls pressure while the needle valve which is the small valve controls flow. Make sense?!

Those crappy CO2 systems... they are terrible. I'm a Tropica retailer and won't even carry their "CO2 system" because I think they are misleading hobbyists. And like you said they are expensive to run! Glad you stumbled across my video. Reach out here or on our website if you have any questions or need help tuning the system.
So as soon as I put the regulator on the co2 canister, and started tightening, it started hissing like crazy, got cold, and I toted it outside really quickly. The pressure is right at the high zone. Maybe they overfilled it? They told me to bring it in cold, and I did, so maybe that has something to do with it?
To be honest, I have not played around with PH controllers at all. I assume that there is a built in timer into the unit that allows you to turn the solenoid on your CO2 on and off as needed, along with where you want the PH to sit. If it doesn't then yes, you'd want a timer on it so the controller isn't injecting CO2 all the time. I plan to get a Milwaukee PH controller here soon and do a video on it. Auto dosing pumps as well. Those seem like fun and take dosing off my daily schedule.

I beleive you mean a PH Controller. There's a difference between a PH Monitor and a PH Controller. The PH Monitor only has a Probe that constantly reads the PH, The controller has the probe too but also has an outlet where you connect the regulator's solenoid and you adjust the desired PH and the controller turns off the solenoid ones the PH reach the desired level.

So the purpose of the power cord is attach it to the timer, it has no function otherwise within the regulator?

If I want to set up a pH monitor for this would that replace the wall timer? Or is that in addition to?
