    I recently replaced the 2kg cylinder on my 60 litre. I thought I'd tightened the co2 art regulator enough but 2 days later I was alerted to a very loud hissing sound. Co2 was shooting out. The room is 15 x15 feet and I'm pretty sure that if I'd have been out at the time, my dog would have been a gonna.☹️

    Greetings from Singapore...
    Failures are part of a learning process.
    It's great to have an honest TH-camr who showed their failures.
    I keep my Cherry, Yellow, Golden and Red-nosed shrimps in a planted Walstad method, 3ft by 1.5ft tank. 6 Otocynclus, 8 Pygmy Corydoras and 30 Chilli Rasboras are included in the tank.
    I used sponge filters and HOB filter.
    Never once in my 30+ years have I used CO2 or tested my water perimeters.
    I learned it all thru my mistakes.
    The most important thing that I learned is to make sure the tank is fully cycled before adding any shrimps or fish.
    Looking forward to more of your videos.
    PS: My Cherry, Yellow and Golden shrimps are thriving and in the process of setting up another tank.

    I was just looking at Ph monitor last night that connects to the CO2 solenoid. As CO2 rises the PH lowers. When the PH gets to set amount it switches off the CO2. They are not that cheap but your video is enough to convince me now.

    Been there, done that, but for me it was equipment failure, aka the heater.
    I had my angelfish tank in a colder room and for some dumb reason never thought to put in a second/backup heater. That night the temps outside reached -40 and since that room only gets whatever heat that comes in from the main house (there's no vents directly in the room from our central heat), the temp in the room dropped to mid 50's and the heater overworked and quit. Woke up to the entire tank, except a 6" pleco (I swear those things can survive a nuke) dead.

    • @ssaquascapes
      @ssaquascapes  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately, we do depend on these pieces of equipment to function as intended or things like this happen.
      I agree about the pleco. When I was growing up in Ohio, we had some in an outdoor pond that grew to over 8 inches long. Those things were like a tank, and survived the pond freezing over in the winter. Virtually indestructible, I swear.

I got the zrdr 4L CO2 system and want to set up a 3 way system cuz I bought a 2 way regulator but it doesn't fit the valve on my CO2 tank. The link for the 3-way valve I use now (after this mistake) is in the description. Just buy that 3-way needle valve and it will screw onto the solenoid replacing the bubble counter. Then put bubble counter on the 3-way (one of the valves). It makes sense when you see it for sure. Don’t let me confuse you.

    I use a 5 gallon bucket with sugar water and yeast. My rate control is how diluted the mix is and I always use a drop checker. The CO2 goes from a jar to clean the gas up to the wave maker of the tank. The angle of the wave maker adjusts how much CO2 gets dissolved. Up is less down is more. Its called ''end tank dump'' . The 3 way splitter wont stop it from happening again. You need a DUAL STAGE REGULATOR , not one that uses a needle valve. CO2 should always be turned off when the lights go off. Another good safety mechanism is to have an air stone in your tanks, yes you will gas off some of your CO2 your injecting but you reduce your chance of this happening by 99%. Good luck in the future mate :)

      Was not end tank dump. It was “new tank wide open”. The splitter WILL regulate the BPS per tank. My co2 does go off at night. But I appreciate your input. 🤘

    I tried the diy co2 crap before and I can honestly say, it's just not worth it, AT ALL!!! Save yourself the headaches and just go with co2 tanks and regulator, A GOOD REGULATOR!!!! Not one of those FZone, Aquarium Co-Op or other cheapo regulators. I've literally tried them all, did I say literally, because I mean literally tried them all. 13 different ones in total. And every single cheapo regulator was total garbage, every one. I finally bit the bullet and bought a GLA regulator about 10 yrs ago and all has worked perfectly every since. In 10 years, haven't had a problem with it yet.
    Night and day difference between a GLA regulator and the regulators from Aquarium Co-Op and the others you can get off Amazon. And I do mean, NIGHT and DAY difference!!!!

      I have thought about a high pressure or “standard” co2 system. I don’t know how much pressure they hold, maybe you can let me know.
      If I went that route I would like to get a mother bottle as my LFS is 1 hour away and if I run out on a work day or Sunday, I’d just be out of CO2 for a week. Not a big deal, I don’t have IAPLC tanks, but still a hassle to drive so far for a refill. I like to refill at home.
      Thanks for the tip on regulators though. The weakest link will always fail first. I’ll definitely keep that in mind when looking at regulators.

      @ssaquascapes Yeah, co2 tanks hold massive pressure and part of the reason they have to be certified and also why they last so long between refills.

    Why people don't run air with co2 is Beyond me. I run both I'm not taken that chance with my fish.

      Air at night when Co2 is off is a good idea. But I hate air pumps and bubble noises so…..I have since added more surface agitation.

  • @MrGrombie

    I find co2 unnecessary. Get a good light and you can get bright colors and carpets easy. Chihiros, Week Aqua, Netlea’s lights are all bangers. And guess what, no co2. At least 5 people in the discord I run teaching people about fish have gassed their fish to death.
    Co2 is a pain in the ass. Also, remember, air pumps do pump in small amounts of co2 as well from the atmosphere. Especially if they are in a closed room you’re in all the time, co2 levels will be higher.

    • @MrGrombie

      You can save that tank btw. You can empty the water, and spray it with hydrogen peroxide. Then fill it back up. The algae will turn orange and die off over time.

      Great tip on recovering the tank. Unfortunately it’s already torn down. Good to know for next time. Thanks!

      I agree CO2 isn’t 100% needed. I have a Walstad tank that pearls slightly in the evenings. But CO2 is fun to use (when you’re not killing shrimp with it) 😔

      @MrGrombie ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ssaquascapes Yeah, I can understand that. 😆
      Just an unnecessary risk to take on when you can go a much safer option with lights.
      Also, if you're doing only spot checks with algae, you can spray them with the water fully up. Spray it like 3-4 times on the spot and it's safe for the critters. Since it just turns back to water shortly after being put into water. Chemically speaking.

    that co2 regulator is quite crappy , here i am selling mine dual gauge and no one want to buy it , lol , if anyone done their research the feedback on cheap regulator ,they give so much problems , and bps will run off the timing , invest a proper system

    • @ssaquascapes
      @ssaquascapes  ปีที่แล้ว

      All the high end regulators are designed for high pressure bottles. They don’t connect to the neck of these bottles.
      I’d get a proper system if my fish store wasn’t an hour drive to refill. Maybe someday, but I won’t get a HPCO2 until I have a mother bottle to fill it at home. 👍🏻
