Just yesterday, a friend asked "hey I'm looking for a monitor what would you recommend" and I had to send him links because the names are impossible to memorize.
I appreciate the data and honesty.. but as an owner of this monitor for almost 2 years now I can say without certain doubt that the "issues" you describe claiming its un-usable as a gaming monitor are rather exaggerated. I play FPS games at a very high level, over $20k in earnings in the pat 3 years alone, and that's without being a content creator or under contract to an org/team. That being said, performance matters, A LOT to me. I've had no issue with this monitor and honestly it was a HUGE improvement over my last. Whatever ghosting and 'fake' response times you say the monitor has clearly doesn't mean shit because I play just fine on it. What I'd like to point out though, which is my main talking point here.. is that this monitor only has one (1) single competitor in its class.. that being the G7. These are the only 2 monitors that I can find that are 27 inch 1000R curved with 240hz+ and 1440p+. Now that we only have two options that satisfy those requirements... We take a look at the prices and OH BOY! The G7 is anywhere between $580 and $700 USD. Meanwhile, the Artymis is roughly HALF that price coming in around $270 to $350 USD. In my eyes, something that is basically the same spare one small quirk, that is HALF THE COST is not something you should be calling 'Crap' and 'not fit to be a gaming monitor' If anyone is here because they are looking to purchase this monitor.. DO IT. I give my word you'll love it.

Thanks for reviewing this. I was looking at this monitor and was wondering... Now I know!!! Maybe an interesting other VA panel to review would be the BenQ EX2710r or EX3210r curved monitor. The 32" one was quite well reviewed by some youtubers.
I bought 2 iiyama G-Master Red Eagle GB2770QSU-B1 4 months ago, for €250 a piece these are great, only the build quality with the original pivot are disappointing, but they are placed on a double monitor stand, which eliminated that issue. Also, the OSD knobs are placed at the bottom of the screen, with the original pivots everything is wobbling when you want to tweak something. But for IPS panel with 165 Hz refresh rate, these are pretty good. I don't use them for gaming, but in a digital music studio with an nVidea RTX Quadro GPU, for music production you also need a monitor with higher refresh rates for metering monitoring. So overall, I'm very glad I bought these without breaking my bank account. I came from an Apple iMac 24" display, but that one is not coming close to the iiyama's.
MSI did it. They finally made a monitor named so horribly that even the legendary Tim had to shorthand it in the review for the sake of his sanity. Sadly, that's the most "prestigious" thing about this monitor. It's actually pretty impressive how efficiently certain aspects of the monitor (for example, the curve, which is best suited for gaming) negate its few positives (good blacks, great color gamut for a VA, best suited for content consumption when taking into account the horrible dark-level smearing). All for basically the same price as the much better Odyssey G7? Hard pass on this, chief. Thanks to Tim for all the hard work he puts into these reviews!
it was never meant for content consumption, why would u want a 240hz display to watch movies, its just a g7 2 years latter, for more money (the g7 can be found usually discounted due to its age), and its worse in every important aspect, sure better contrast.. like all the other va, samsung va had a terrible contrast ratio for va, the point is, it was still like x2 of what we had.. and KEPT the fast speed

No 1440p monitor beats the G7. The only thing i'll change to is 240hz QD oled. IPS is bad and IPS HDR is a joke. Yes i do have IPS in SDR and top end HDR. FALD IPS is good in SDR but HDR is bloom, crap blacks city. 4k HDR is limited in response times and nothing close to the G7. 1440p 240hz is the best thing and we just need 27" 1000nit HDR oled in that.
Thanks for the detailed review. Could you review some Philips monitors, for example Philips 329M1RV? I am interested in in (as an alternative to Gigabyte Aorus FI32U), has really good specs and features on paper, but I am bit skeptical.
The Gigabyte M27Q P is available! In europe the non-P version hasn't been in stock for few months now. The New version even has a normal RGB design. A review would be awesome! Since its price is at 420€ right now, it is the same as the MSI MAG274QRF-QD. So quite the competiotion...... although the LG 27gp850 only costs 320 here in europe.
Been waiting for about a month to get a mag274qrf-qd. Waiting for a sale. Argh its painful, im using a 1080p 60hz monitor right now with an aldelake cpu ddr5, and an OC'd 3080Ti.
I need to know, so msi mpg artymis 343cq, the ultrawide brother, is just 0 for a Gamer? I would love colors and contrast, but you said I would have ghosting and smearing and is slow? So is just a No No in gaming?
To be honest panel definitly has potential, BUT it seems firmware is driving overshoot poorly. Take a loot at 5:47. In places where response time is high, there is pretty much no overshoot, meanwhile in red spots of overshoot, there is suddenly very fast response time. Especially part of graph at "From 51 To 26" sudden red spots of high overshoot, but only 2ms of response time. Then we go to similar spot (from 77 to 51) and suddenly overshoot is gone but response time goes up to 12.9. Pretty much entire red area in response time could benefit from way more overshoot setting while dropping a little overshoot in red overshoot areas wouldn't hurt much. The most noticable part is moving from normal to fastest, top left corner is still 50ms+ response time (yuck) but there is literally 0 overshoot.
All I want is a 32" 4K HDR600 with a min 120hz and prefered to be a VA panel for better blacks.. Ohhhh. And it needs to be around $1000au Is there anything out there???
I'm confused why we keep comparing a $484 monitor to a $699 monitor... am I missing something here? Is a 44% price increase not significant to other people?
I still don't get why on most expensive gaming monitors there has to be RGB and all that crap, I'd take a big discount over having RGB. I mean doesn't the screen have already enough RGB in it to display everything?

Exactly why I say don't listen to the 1ms the only true 1ms panel can be an oled due to its per pixel response time. The fact each pixel lights itself is the point. Lcd/led tvs just can't do the same without usually minimizing settings etc.
Love this channel. You do a lot of good work. A piece of advice from one who has seen a great deal of bad happen to good folks on YT that don't deserve to be treated that way: Upon observing two pongids flinging feces at each other the wisest course of action probably isn't to go and stand by either of them as the probability of becoming inundated with fecal matter increases asymptotically as the inverse square of the distance between either of the pongids and yourself. I don't know either of the two pongids involved but seems to me like letting YT take the hit for settling the dispute between them (or the courts) is the safer course of action in this instance. Just trying to look out for one of my favorite TH-camrs!
I avoid buying anything MSI after being screwed by an AIO which didn't include the advertised 12gen mounting brackets and then them refusing to even send me a bracket after sale.
I've own this monitor. The response time and black smearing problem is really bad, the text buzzing in red and blue also, to the point where I cannot stand it because my 144hz cheap Lenovo monitor can out perform This MSI monitor in any usage except watching movies i think which I do not need 240hz to do that . @hardware unboxed I'm considering MSI Artymis 27/32 or Samsung Odyssey 27/32 Monitor - which is better?
LG OLED C2 42" with the new new panel when :(
I can order it for you, it's widely available here in Europe if that's the problem
Motherboard: MSI X650 Extreme WiFi Ultimate
Monitor: 273X7305BHECH
Yeah, not sure why they couldn't come up with something like "MSI Extreme Refresh Gamer 27 2022"
Tim we need the viewsonic XG321UG mini led 32" 4K 144hz review
No 1440p monitor beats the G7. The only thing i'll change to is 240hz QD oled. IPS is bad and IPS HDR is a joke. Yes i do have IPS in SDR and top end HDR. FALD IPS is good in SDR but HDR is bloom, crap blacks city. 4k HDR is limited in response times and nothing close to the G7. 1440p 240hz is the best thing and we just need 27" 1000nit HDR oled in that.
the monitor is listed for 380€ on amazon. Is it worth buying for that price?
Tim, we need more clarity. Can't tell where you stand on this one. 😕
Maybe they'll release a firmware update? I dunno I'm just waiting for a M32UC review at this point.
Just got the MAG274QRX 240hz. Hoping it does well in your testing when you eventually review it.
Difference between MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD and MSI Optix MAG274QRF which is non QD. Can you compare both ?
The only channel where I like the intro music.
No one has really been talking about this monitor: Samsung 32" Odyssey S32BG750. It drops on June 6 and the specs are crazy .
Awesome content! I really hope you guys also take a look at the MSI MAG274QRX
Another leftover monitor that will surely arrive to my country, just perfect for our mandatory Christmas Bonus!
HOW IS THE MPG ARTYMIS 343CQR?
I had this MSI Optix G24C it was awful 1 month after purchase the monitor would have lines on the lower half when turned on 5 mins in they would vanish looked the issue up and it looked to common with this model of monitor. I went back to AOC happy days.
Thanks for such honest explanation.
can you review dell gaming G3223D?
and what is the best 1440p 32 inch gaming monitor from your side? i am pointing to gigabyte m32q because the asus pg32q is too expensive. a lot of people saying that m32q is better than lg 32gp850, but i didnt see any reviews about this Dell monitor. i know that Dell is premium. please let me know your oppinion. thx!
I like the yellow-blue leds in the background more then the red-blue
Please try to review the Gigabyte Aorus FI32Q X is a 270hz 1440p with HDR 600
Did Tim ever make that video explaining all the monitor specific terms?
Can you check out this one? It's 1440p 175hz with rapid ips also 32"
MPG321QRF-QD
Could you review the MSI G273QPF / G273QF ? It's a great budget monitor.
Are the Msi artymis mpg 323cqr response times as bad as this one?
Was the updated firmware as listed on the MSI support page installed?
"I really don't think it's worth spending anymore time talking about this monitor, because I don't think you should buy it."
.
Tim is an absolute savage, and I love him for it. Can always know exactly where a product stands. And you know a monitor name is ridiculous when even Tim won't bother saying it more than once or twice.
I wouldn't dream of buying a display for my PC that hasn't been reviewed by Hardware Unboxed nowadays.
I was thinking of getting the none x version of this now not sure if I should get g5
Is there anyway you guys can review the msi optix mag247qrx I haven’t seen any reviews on it
Can you review the MSI MAG274QRX?
It feels like Monitors are getting worse.
To me it seems with each passing year they deviate more and more from "manufacturers specs" and become more problematic in terms of DoA Units and general build quality.
Gonna play this video while I'm in the other room because even though I don't care about a crappy monitor I want to reward you doing good reviews of bad items warning us of them
Is it worth it for $237 USD 1 year later?
Is SRGB and DCI-p3 better than the Samsung G7 27" VA?
What price would be acceptable for this monitor to be sold at and do you think the refresh rate should be 200hz instead of 240hz?
Exactly why I say don't listen to the 1ms the only true 1ms panel can be an oled due to its per pixel response time. The fact each pixel lights itself is the point. Lcd/led tvs just can't do the same without usually minimizing settings etc.
The observed specs are so bad it almost seems it was a faulty unit.
all monitors reviews are 2 years old any new reviews ? like this one MSI G244PF E2 ? @Hardwareunboxed
As a proud owner of 32 g7 im always happy watching your reviews knowing that nothing beats it ;-)
Any review on the gigabyte m27q-p?
over 50ms response time in some instances...
I'm planning to buy a 1080p monitor should I go for the BenQ ex 2510s or LG 24gn650b ty
Here before MSI's marketing team asks to take this video down
so is about 3 times worse, but showing the same numbers in marketing... that's why this kind of in depth analysis is necessary, thanks
Thumbnail alone is very helpful. 10/10 would still bother checking the review to know how bad it is to make such thumbnail.
Can you review the asus tuf gaming vg34vql1b 34" ultrawide? Looks good for the putrid and hopefully better than the gigabyte ultrawide.
I game in a dark room, and can’t stand ips glow .Are there any good va panels besides the Samsung odyssey g7? I tried the g7 but the qc is really bad
Am I late for the barby lads? Full set of Hellys needed for this one.
is it better than the aw2721d? For Gaming valorant?
I've own this monitor. The response time and black smearing problem is really bad, the text buzzing in red and blue also, to the point where I cannot stand it because my 144hz cheap Lenovo monitor can out perform This MSI monitor in any usage except watching movies i think which I do not need 240hz to do that . I have return the monitor and wait for MSI in my country to inspect it but I have a little hope. I think I might ended up selling this monitor for cheap after using it less than a month.
This monitor retails for $499 in the US. Almost pulled the trigger on this one, but ended up with the asus instead
Can we have a worst name chart from here on out? Create some sort of benchmark for it.
How many letters it has.
Does it include the word gaming?
Have they removed a letter to make it more elite?
Did they change the spelling?
How many X's are in the name.
How long it takes to say.
Wow, this monitor's such a flop!
Really what is an good monitor to upgrade to if I am on a lg 27? Beside that msi one with alllll the issues.
Acer EI272UR Pbmiiipx 27" WQHD 2560 x 1440 2K 144Hz
If you want to i would love to see what you say about this VA... i bought it as a replacement for a LCD thats old enough to proudly display LED Technology on its roughly 1" bezel...
not expecting a favorable review but it was cheap and looked decent on paper to me... newegg has it on sale for 230 USD often that is what i bought it at nearly a year ago now.. it was in the top 10 monitors on newegg at one point and is now #18 so clearly people are buying it.... might be worth reviewing...
Tim's humor is borderline savage.
I'm in stitches. 😂
Damn was really hoping for the MSI Optix Mag274QRX review
Hi, I would like to have your opinion or maybe test the 3 following displays if possible.
1. Acer Nitro XV273K Pbmiipphzx 27.0" 3840x2160 144 Hz Monitor
2. LG 27GN950-B 27.0" 3840x2160 144 Hz Monitor
3. Asus ROG SWIFT PG27UQ 27.0" 3840x2160 144 Hz Monitor
Where I live, the Acer is 300$ less expensive than the other 2 and I would like to know if the price is worth the quality difference. (They are almost, the only monitors 27 inch 4k 144hz IPS that I can find where I live). Thank you in advance!
damn, was hoping for a review on the MAG274QRX. another excellent review nonetheless!
I'm hopeful the new Meg 342C will be a winner. Hope it comes to market soon. Lets hope this is the year of QD Oled and not these wanna be dissapointments.
Pls make a video on Corsair Xeneon QHD165Hz monitor
