  • I had to change out an injector on my truck but I was unable to find any videos online showing me how to do so before I knew what I was tackling, so I decided to upload a video of my own explaining how to change injectors on the L5P to where are you know what you are getting into. I hope you find this video useful! Find Me on Facebook messenger. / jameskieff

    I use to own a GMC LML Duramax. I loved the truck, engine and transmission, but I don’t miss the maintenance i.e glow plug issues etc. Damn modern diesels. I now has owned Toyota Tundras. All I have to do is get in and drive. Never have to go under the hood for nothing. NO it’s not a 3/4 ton but it will get the job done with no issues. Best truck I’ve ever owned.

    • @jmkieff
      @jmkieff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree Toyota’s last forever, I owned one for about 3 years. Now with my commercial fishing boats it demands me to have a diesel being they’re 18,000 and 23,000 pounds. They used to be poo on fuel but it looks like the direct injection handled it a good bit better

    I'd have some new seals on hand that seal up the return line banjo bolts. Those little bastards can be pretty elusive when you take the bolts out. Also, would be nice if someone would post the torque specs for this job. I'm still looking for them as they're not easy to come by.

    @michaelneuman6910 ปีที่แล้ว

    My 2019 has a P0204 code saying misfire #4. I am hearing this could be the harness or the injector. I took this to the dealer bc I have 70k miles on it. Shouldn't this be a warranty item? They are being very wishy washy.

    The engine will be fine unless your towing heavy a lot. They changed the firing order from the LML to extend mileage from the crank breaking with the L5P but crank failure still occurs.
    We got a L5P with 120k on it with a broken crank that happened last month and lost 3 LML in the past year. Way to many failures for towing 14 to 16k .They break on the 1, 2, and 3 journal.
    Wait until you have to change a turbo or egr valve, you need to pull the cab. The Gassers are worse with the 6l80/6l90 tranny failure rate. We lost 39 in our North American Fleet. Lost 2 of the 5.3 engines in 1500 that tow nothing. The best option is to repower them with a Cummins just my opinion. Right now I'm really beating my head off the desk since our fleet is switching to ford and
    I'm a ford guy but the 6.7 ford failure is even worse. the engines are on back order due to them locking up. The Dodge's you need to purchase a new front end and keep it in stock but the diesel
    cummins is the best on the market. and ball joints take about a hour to replace if you have the correct tools. Myself if toyota ever came out with a Diesel that would be where i'd invest my money.
    Take it or leave it just my 3 cents worth.

    @robm3357 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My guess is that you had an imbalance with injectors 2 and 8 ?
    Also what was the mileage on those injectors?
    Was there any issues that you noticed, miss fires, lack of power, bad fuel mileage that you noticed that had you look at the injector balance?

    • @jmkieff
      @jmkieff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was having a shake in idle, and I knew 8 was bad for sure but I changed 2 just because that balance rate still wasn’t right after changing 8. So I swapped them both at 60k miles and it’s been smooth since

  • @lasaventurasded.a.d5888

    On the passenger side at least one of the injectors can be done by taking off the tire shield, I think that maybe injector number 7 not totally sure, lots easier than trying to do it from the top, hope this helped somebody.

    • @jmkieff
      @jmkieff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just ordered them on eBay honestly. And there was no smoke at all, the injector was just failing to inject fuel at idle, only way you get smoke is when it’s stuck open or failing to ignite

    What all do you have done to this truck, what do you think caused the injectors to go bad

    • @jmkieff
      @jmkieff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion it’s nothing that I did to the truck because totally stock engines have the same issue. And then it’s only a 50-50 chance the dealership will warrantee them and wants to work is done if they do not warrantee it it will cost you about $3000
