Markus' first shot was a warning shot to tell John that Perkins was coming. His second shot was an intentional shot at the guards holding John hostage. Markus didn't miss anything, he was helping John out the whole way and took Viggo's offer to be able to follow and save John.
His friend didn’t miss. He wasn’t trying to shoot him, he was warning him that there was someone in his room and the second time he literally saved his life.

Even the cops don't wanna mess with John Wick. They seem fully aware of the world of assassins and know that it's best to stay out of their business.
In the Wickverse. The Assassin Underworld and the Law sort of have an understanding. As long as business stays in the underworld and doesn't spill over onto Innocents they're pretty much cool.
The death of the puppy was an uber effective plot device. In an instant, one totally identifies with John Wick, a murderer and assassin, whom would otherwise be a totally offensive character. The action sequences were artfully done - and John gets his deserved revenge. A great film, done by the incomparable Keanu Reeves.
Yeah they needed the puppy. If they just beat up an ex hitman and stole his car no-one would care
@@Ge_o I mean it would still have been an amazingly well-directed and choreographed action movie, but yeah it definitely wouldn't have had the same heart behind it.
It's particularly that we were shown John Wick the grieving husband and puppy-dad first, and only after he's been attacked and brutalized is it revealed that he's a terrifying killer. If it had been done the other way around, its likely audiences would've been horrified by John the killer, then grudgingly sympathize with John the widower. The way they did it, however, we empathize with John the widower first, then cheer as John the killer slaughters his way through the Russians to get revenge.

The Continental doesn't really care about double dealing, it's not that unusual for a hitman to have a contract against them, what they did care about was her breaking the main rule, no business on Continental grounds. She was executed for killing Henry in his room and for trying to kill John in his room.
My favorite thing about this movie is that, even though it's treated as an action movie it's really a slasher movie, we're just on the side of the slasher in this case. Basically, John Wick is the Jason Vorhees or the Michael Myers of this universe, we're just on his side.
Yeah, if only that crazy guy in the ski mask loved puppies more, he wouldn't be portrayed as a horror movie villain all the time...

A number of years ago, My brother and I were perusing movies and I said 'What's Jon Wick?'.
He gave me this appalled look and said 'You've never seen John Wick?'.
I told him no and he just said 'Sit Down'.
We then watched it, I've been hooked since!
A fun bit of trivia is that a lot of the people involved in the second and third Matrix movies were also involved in this movie. The guard that threw John off the balcony in the Red Circle club and then got choked out by John later, was the main Agent in the Matrix Reloaded. The doctor who stitched up John and gave him the pills was the Key Maker from the Matrix Reloaded as well.
Chad Stahelski, one of the directors, was also Keanu's stunt double in the Matrix movies. He even had a cameo as Trinity's husband in the 4th Matrix film.

Originally John Wick was supposed to be played by a 75 year old actor like Harrison Ford, Paul Newman or Clint Eastwood.
Anyway I saw this in the theater with my parents, thought it was a generic action movie, then I learned it's about a former assassin for hire who goes on a vengeful quest to get back as those that killed his dog, stole his car and beat him to pulp.
That would make some sense, seeing that he was both experienced and allowed to retire, and that he seemed to be good friends with Viggo.

John Leguizamo is so underrated as an actor. He does amazing work. And he was only on screen for a few minutes in this movie but still managed to be believable. It is hard enough for a main character to establish their presence believably. But a side character with a few lines... John Leguizamo doesn't get the respect he deserves.
All John Wick movies are amazing.
Winston, the owner of the New York Continental Hotel who you thought you recognized from Game of Thrones, played Brother Ray. He was the spiritual leader that saved the Hound and gave him a place to stay after Brienne defeated him and he was left for dead by Arya.
He was also in the show American Gods.
Not to forget he was Blackbeard on one of the Pirates movies that don't exist. 😅
He was also great in pillars of the earth.

If you noticed in the end, when he lets the dog out, the sheet on its door showed it was scheduled to be put down. They saved each other.
I love how Viggo tells his son the story of John Wick; the introduction is done in the same way that Horror movie villains are typically brought in.
With that story, it would be really lame if they kill John Wick in the end. There is rumors/talks that the only way to end the John Wick movies is with John Wick dying. But the whole backstory on him being the person you call to kill the boogeyman goes against that. John Wick kind of HAS to survive in the end with that story, or else it'll be all for nothing. Sure, he can be injured and stuff, but don't kill him off in the end. Give John Wick some kind of happy ending with that whole backstory they created in the first movie.

25:39 uhm actually, the reason why she's been "revoked" is due to the fact that she violated the house rules. because the continental is a place where you shouldn't do any "business" be conducted on the Hotel premises, including fighting and carrying out contracts on other assassins in the hotel.
and john wick didnt actually told them about perkin's activity, but maybe so if we point out about the "uninvited guest" hint, but overall? perkins just violated the house rules.

You cannot kill another assassin at the Hotel or any other one located in the world those are the rules,if this happens that person is no longer deemed an assassin and a mark is put out for them basically a price on their head.

One detail: Perkins got revoked because she "conducted business" (tried to do hitman-y things) on hotel grounds. They don't care that she double-crossed anyone, just that she did so at the hotel.
Marcus didn't "miss" - he hit what he intended to hit. He alerted John about the bedroom hit - he took out one of the guys holding the plastic bag so John could take care of the other.
My only question is: why didn't he take out the other guy as well? Because we wouldn't have an exciting fight scene...

They are actually working on a fifth movie as well. They announced John Wick 4 and 5 at the same time. I don't think they started filming 5 yet though. Just 4 (which is already in post-production since we got a trailer already). I think they were going to film 4 and 5 back-to-back, but the whole virus nonsense got in the way. Plus throw in that Keanu Reeves was filming Matrix 4 as well. So 5 got delayed. But there is a fifth movie already on the way. It was announced the same time they announced the fourth movie.
They dropped a teaser for JW4 at SDCC.

"Nobody" is a very watered down feel compared to John Wick, IMO. Plus, the main character in Nobody is arrogant a bit which spoils a bunch of scenes, IMO.

So you may have already covered this later, but i'm at 23:50 still. Have to think of his 2 "missed" shots. First one was when he saw his room door opening, he shot right beside his head to give him a heads up someone was coming in or else she probably would have shot him before he could have responded. Second shot he just straight up shot the guy that was killing him with the bag.

John Wick:Chapter 2 is worth reacting to, in my opinion.
Side note: The guy who played Viggo passed in 2017. He was a good actor. I first saw in the original "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" from 2009.
As for the man who played Winston, Ian McShane did the voice of Tai Lung, the villain in Kung Fu Panda. He's done a lot more, but I don't know everything you've seen.
Ian McShane is a badass. Worth watching him in "Deadwood"

@@thesofahippo4055 The first place I saw him was on a British mystery show call "Lovejoy." It was about an antique dealer and rarely was there a murder. More often it was missing antiques, but occasionally there was something worth dying for.

I'm sad to learn that the actor who played Viggo died in 2017 of lung cancer, aged 56.
Ian McShane was in a couple eps of Game of Thrones as the preacher friend of the Hound. He was also a major character in HBO's awesome show, Deadwood.

They already announced a John Wick 5 as well. When they announced John Wick 4, they announced 5 too. I want to say they wanted to originally shoot 4 and 5 back-to-back, but because of Matrix 4 and the whole virus nonsense shutting down Hollywood, they had to push 5 aside temporarily and just focus on 4, but 5 is still going to happen and hasn't been canceled.
The John Wick house is out here on Long Island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck. (At the end of Horseshoe road right by the water.) -- The runway is at Republic Airport in Farmingdale NY. -- Ms. Perkins gets hers at the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park.. The hotel is 1 Wall Street Court in NYC.. In real life, it's an apartment building with currently ONE apartment available.

I couldn't believe you hadn't watched and reacted to JW already. There are so many neat little details to the world building for this movie series and I hope you watch the rest.
The pup was Daisy btw.
You can see paperwork on the cage of the dog at the end that shows it was to be put to sleep the next morning, so John saved it. The shot of them walking away at the end is the same spot that John's wife collapsed in the beginning.
Marcus asks Viggo if it is a closed contract, meaning no other hitmen will be going after John, just the one that takes the contract. Since Viggo says it is open, Marcus agrees so he can have an excuse to be around when he secretly helps John. His first shot was a warning to alert John to Perkins.
Perkins violated Continental rules by killing Harry, "doing business on Continental grounds", so she incurred severe penalties lol.
The body disposal guys are just a crew that works for anyone in the underworld that needs bodies disposed of.
The gold coins operate as a kind of alternate currency for the underworld. I think of them as representing a favor... you can use one to rent a hotel room, dispose of a body, get information or assistance, etc.
The dog, Daisy, is inspired by a real world therapy dog DASY given to Marcus Luttrell and named in acronym for his fallen SEAL team members. The movie/book Lone Survivor is based on the ordeal.

A couple of fun facts I found online: Keanu had a fever of 104°F during the top-level nightclub fight sequence.
Other actors considered for the role of John Wick: Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Kurt Russell, Nicolas Cage, Kevin Costner, Johnny Depp and Jason Statham.
The tattoos on John's back were Latin words, "Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat", or "Fortune Favors the Bold" in English. It hints that John Wick once served in the Marines.

Each shot looks like they came straight off the pages of a comic book. Its beautifully done. A masterpiece of film.
The first time Marcus shot at John's pillow was to warn John and because Marcus didn't want to break the Continental rules. The second time was to actually save John's life.
Marcus never misses. He took the contact to try and protect John, which he did all the way to the end

I just love the symbolism of John destroying the foundation of his new life, the basement floor, to reenter his old life of violence, the weapons and coins.
Marcus hit exactly where he meant to both times. There was no missing, he just went for a different target.
John didn't have to report Perkins to the concierge, nor was there concern about the double cross. Her membership was revoked because she conducted business on Continental grounds which is a huge no no. This was the warning he gave John early in the movie.

I know I keep commenting, but I just wanted to say his wife, Helen, did know what he did, and his ultimate gift to her was to leave his past behind him, not because she asked, but he loved her so much he wanted her to only know peace. I don't know for sure if she asked him to give up assassination, but I strongly suspect he wanted to give it up in order to give her the life HE felt she deserved.
Her name was daisy, the second one you would love the most and the third so keep watching please!!!

"With a F#&king pencil!!" ✏️ Lol I regret not watching this in IMAX during its release. Fortunately during the 3rd movie, some theaters did a John Wick Marathon & was able to see the 1st one on the Big Screen, totally worth it. Music by the Awesome Tyler Bates(300) tremendous cast & soundtrack.
Daniel Bernhardt(Logan, Nobody) who plays the Russian bodyguard who threw John off the 2nd floor in the club was in the Matrix Reloaded, he was one of the Agents. I'm sure he did some fighting choreography for this movie too.

The proprietor of the Continental, who you thought you recognized, is Ian McShane, and yes, he was in Game of Thrones (in one episode). He was the guy who led the group of settlers who found the Hound and nursed him back to health in season six.
John Leguizamo is an incredible comedian. His stand up comedy is just hilarious.

Fun fact, the one “head of security” guy that John fights extensively in this movie is also the main non-Smith Agent in The Matrix Reloaded.
"He's a great actor, Keanu Reeves." Probably the first person to ever say such a thing, but I am sure it makes Keanu happy. :)
He absolutely can be. A lot of the time he's given tasks he can't do (he will never be good at accents), but when given the chance he can be stunningly good. Try The Gift, directed by Sam Raimi. Keanu plays an abusive husband so well it's creepy, especially since everyone knows he's super-nice as a person.
@@snorpenbass4196 Sure. But he also did some of the funniest and goofiest performances I have ever seen in a movie. I recommend watching Knock Knock to understand what I mean. Terrible movie, but Keanu's performance makes it all better, and it also turns a thriller movie into a comedy.
He is decent in just about everything, but its his charm and attitude that makes him so loveable. Not a nicer guy in Hollywood considering most are trash humans.

He is a good actor though. I'm always excited to see him in stuff. Very few actors could be a convincing John Wick. He might not have great range, but at the things he is good at he's better than most.
