    I had absolutely no luck shooting acrylic emulsion paint when I first got my Earlex HVLP. Polyurethane varnish was a little easier, but I did struggle to reduce it to the correct consistency.
    I use alcohol based acrylics in my airbrush, I had no idea you can get alcohol based shellac paints for larger scale furniture projects. I'm going to have to give this stuff a try when I do my kitchen cabinets later this year.

    Great video, the Graco HVLP doesn’t seem as loud as other HVLP turbines & this model looks to have more control with the settings etc. All sprayers make noise but some are more bearable. Looks a good set up.

    • @sprayaholic

      Yes its great. Id say the qtech Q5 is quieter though. I'll have a video shortly about that. So both good options

      @@sprayaholica video of the Qtech Q5 that would be great to see, overall difficult question perhaps do you prefer the Graco 9.5 used here or the Qtech Q5 ? I think there’s a Wagner HVLP very pricey though! I’ve used the Graco GXFF airless but so much overspray! HVLP is noisy so I considered a soundproof box but it would be a no no as the turbines get very hot! Thanks for replying so fast! Many thanks & Happy New Year.

      @Nicola Wood happy new year and tnanksfor the support. The q5 and fuji q series are sound proofed. I have made a video trying to show noise levels between 3 turbine units aswel. So plenty of videos on the way.
      I like the graco gun. The qtech is basically the same as fuji, great gear. Alot have difficulty with the graco gun and the plastic cups, but the qtech is great too and a good price really for what you get. I'll be doing a review comparing each one. But any questions feel free to ask

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Nicola Wood airless overspray id say is alot down to technique and spray tip, you can dial it down
      But hvlp can dust up a room with dry dust and get a rough finish from not applying enough paint

      @@sprayaholic thank you on Qtech Q5 is there the option like on the Graco to control the turbine, or is it just the Fuji Q5 & Graco 9.5 that have that extra control, I think that’s why they are pricier! Its good and you get 3 needle sets included. The hose is longer and smart start is great.
      But the qtech Q5 is smaller but same power, you can get a deal with a pressure pot too. And id buy a 1.8mm needle separately. A good alternative and a little cheaper

    Awesome videos. Quick question if you don't mind answering you have probably answered 100 times before. But I have some spraying experience using conventional spray set up and Gun. Used Apollo stage 3 before as well(didn't like it had to tin paint to much to get to spray right) but I would spray/hand paint occasionally. Some project and trim. I've been looking to get a Fuji q4/q5 or the Graco 7/9 or 9.5 likes yourself. But I keep toying with the idea of the Graco ultra cordless as well. Only use water based paints. (Colourtrend here in Ireland) would a Fuji stage 4 be good enough to spray waterbased paint obviously thinning but with my previous experience with the Apollo it's throwing me off because of the thinning. How much to much to thin water based paint

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey bud thanks for watching. I have an old video on here using the fuji Q4 great machine.
      Basically a 3 stage pushes around 6psi
      4 stage 9psi
      5 stage 9.5psi
      So a big jump on power when you get a 4 stage. Also the needle size makes a big difference, ages ago most used to come with a 1.3 needle so would need thinning again.
      I use a 1.8mm mostly, the graco comes with more things like 3 needle sets.
      A qtech 5 would be like a fuji mini mite 5. The guns are the same.
      I had that apollo machine too ha. Colourtrend sprays nice i like it.
      I thin max 10% with the 9.5 and also using the larger needles it sprays thicker material. Also warming up the paint makes it flow alit easier to avoids thinning

      @@sprayaholic thanks for the quick reply. Yeah with the Apollo I was using a 2.0 tip but still had very little effect. But good to know I'll have a look back at your older videos. Also for just occasional spraying would you recommend a graco ultra or something like a stage 4 hvlp gun. In the long run. Sometimes I would spray varnish as well which I don't think a graco ultra would be great for. Might leave it with orange peel

    If you had to paint a couple of cabinet doors which would be your go to sprayer considering set up and clean up and any other factors including finish, over-spray etc? Small airless, Graco Ultra or this HVLP? I primarily use Latex.
    I have used HVLP since they came out in the early 80's and did not like the fogging and heating up the paint. Since then I have not used one and can assume they are much better these days.
    Just considering a small touch up unit that I will have on the job site and will more than likely not clean out after every use as it looks like you do. Heck the time saved not cleaning can buy me many sprayers. I know its wrong, but my time is worth a lot.

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. I dont clean out my sprayers that often. Both my airless units are still sat in the same paint, i will be using again the end of the week. I just clean the tip and guard and cover the paint.
      Same with hvlp i clean the tip end buy the guns have both still got paint in them. Once ive finished with that paint or job i then clean.
      They have improved alot. Fogging comes from too much air and wasted paint in the air. You can really dial down the paint and get little overspray and fogging. Its good to have an extractor you can hang out a window too which can draw out the overspray.
      Depends, i would happily do it with the ultra, but i do like using the hvlp. You just need to make sure youve applied enough paint. I see sone people applying it too thin, hence it comes off and doesnt last.
      I guess it comes down to what may be best for you at the time

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Too much fog in the air is usually when youre air is too high.
      Orange peel could be the paint is too thick or youre applying too much.
      Is the paint really thin like a stain/milk?
      If not id consider try a number 4. Try and get the paint consistency right, so if you put a stick in the paint, lift it out qnd see if the ripple stays for a long time. Disappears or is take maybe 3 seconds for the ripples to blend into all the paint.
      Then you can get your settings lower, if you spray too lightly the suface will be rough. So id spray 1 coat, then build up from there. If it needs sanding in-between coats that helps get that perfect finish

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I sold my fuji Q4 and about a year later i realised i missed it ha.
      The Q series is on of the quietest machines it has a lower hum.
      You get more for your money with the graco. 3 tips sets 1.3mm, 1.8mm, 2.2mm, longer hose, smart start. Flexi cup that sprays all angles, and i really like the guns adjustability.
      The fuji is fantastic too. The guns are really well made. Not sure what the tip size is that comes with the fuji gun. Maybe a 1.3 or option fro a 1.8mm (i would say opt to buy another tip so you have atleast a 1.8mm in your set)
      The Qtech would be a contender also. The Qtech5 its abit like the fuji mini mite 5. Guns are the same as fuji. It comes with a 1.5mm in the gun. You could get a deal with a pressure pot on that one and it would probably still be cheaper than the others. Still id buy a 1.8mm needle set.
      So long as its 5 stage you're flying. Its really just gun preference and loudness after that. But all will get you the same finish.
