Just got my gun today and really struggled to get it spraying right. I already see so many things that I was doing wrong. This video really helped clear up so many questions I had. Can't wait to try it out again tomorrow with all this new info.
I usually use Gallery Serious which doesn’t need to be cut. However if I’m using a 2k poly I use a measured mixing cup put in 24oz of paint, 2.5oz of water then 2.5 oz of catalyst in that order and mix immediately. Most enamels can be mixed up to 10% with water but you will sacrifice coverage the more you dilute. I’ve found that most spray best with the #4 needle and tip unless your spraying stain or lacquer then #3. Great idea for a video maybe soon
I've done about 20 kitchens with this unit. Its a love-hate relationship. Here is a tip I wanna add... take a rubber mallet and hit the tabs to fully tighten the cup before attaching to the gun. Trust me, it leaks and paint will drip into your finish.
I've used my 9.5 a few time and something is always crappening with it and back on the shelf it goes. I've come to the conclusion my graco 490 with 410fflp tip at 1600psi is an unparalleled glass making machine. The upside of the 9.5 was to be able to use less paint for small jobs, which it does, but the clean up on that gun is a PITA! Keep them gallons rollin!
I agree I own 3 - 9.5s and after 2 years of using them we’ve shelved them for the Quichshots at the home to paint boxes and the 440 at the shop to spray doors.
The finish is much better than rolling or brush, BUT the sheen has been uneven. I did furniture and looking down the top of the dresser in natural light, I can see shiny and dull spots. I washed, sanded, primed, sanded, painted coats but it doesn't have the glass finish I hoped for. Wish I knew what I could be doing wrong.
Sounds like your material is too thick. Try thinning. Turn your air down a little and fluid up a little this will cause more paint to come out quickly and thinning will allow your paint to flow. Good luck 👍🏻
@mallerpaintingcompany Thanks. I thinned about 12%. (8 ounces water + 60 ounces paint). Maybe I needed as much as 18% to 20%. These HVLP's can't pull thick products, I assume. I have a #4 ford viscocity cup. Someone said 45 second max to empty that cup gives the viscosity for the HVLP, but man, 12% water wasn't even close. , Trying hard to get this dialed on furniture before doing cabinets.
Today I can even get the unit to suck paint. Took apart and redid fittings I thought might leak, and blew air through remote pot fluid hose (when it was detached from the unit), made sure the tube in the remote pot isn't plugged, and made sure the hand held gun isn't plugged. I guess it must be the viscocity again. I thinnned 12%, but unlike in the past, this time no go. I am using #6 tip set up, rather than #3 tip set up. I am going thin more and see if I can get paint flowing. scientist at work here, lol.
Very good explanations brother, the truth is that this machine is very complicated to be able to adjust it and have a mirror effect with it. The real problem is being able to correctly dilute the paint you decide to use, I usually use Centurion and to be able to use tip number 3 I have to dilute it 10 to 15% and pray that it self-levels well, it is clear that I only use it for small jobs, for when it is more painting I use a graco airless 390 with fflp 308/210 depending on the job, a hug.
So true thinning each product properly is an art! We used 9.5s exclusively for 2.5 years for cabinets and they have their place however you’re right. All of them are collecting dust and have switched back to small airless with fflp tips way less problems and much faster! 💪
Bro! I just came to the exact same conclusions over the past month or so using my homies 115 titan lol. I started off using my Greco X5 airless that I had just bought, then bought the 209,& 108 FFLP tips. Had some speed bumps the first few times, did my research. Bought a conditioner and sped up as I was spraying. I hang them vertically to spray both sides at once. Running was a tiny issue too in the beginning 😂. They were turning out hella good. My homie said ay, since you got that pretty much dialed do you want try out my HVLP. I don’t ever take time off of work like I am right now right now to sell my house. So, I said hell yeah.I ran into issues immediately lol. Lots of solvent pop and just had like a hammered look to it. After a few, or more days it would level out. Not like glass though. Figured I’d try out a #3 tip , cut back on the fluid and turn up the air a little bit. along with thinning it out a fair amount. Night and day difference. I’m a metal stud framer/rocker by trade. Not too much experience in this field, but I definitely enjoy figuring out the solutions. Kind of a long way to say I agree with you I know lol.
Loved this video. Can I add that I also get a leak from time to time despite getting the threads spotless! but have found a method with stops it! I cut the top off an old flex liner( about 1/2 inch) and I then pop the knee flex liner inside it and out it in the pot! It acts like a second seal which helps the flex liner sit tighter to the lid.
Parfois je me demande si les réglages ne sont pas trop riches en air. Mon premier essai le rendu de la peinture était « rugueux » j’ai bien progressé mais je tâtonne toujours avec la dilution. Excellent matériel…qu’il faut apprendre à utiliser
I have paint leaking from the top of the trigger where there is a nut and the needle goes through it. I am searching for videos that address that specific area but nothing so far

Yesss! You got this 💪 Let me know if I can answer any other questions or issues that come up im happy to help!
Absolutely the best edge gun video ever.
Thank you 🙏
Nice video thank you for sharing some info with us I just wonder if you have time to do a video on how you cut your paint with water please

No problem thanks for watching 🤘😎🤘

Genius! Thanks for the tip 💪
This is a great video bro! Thank you👍🏽
No problem glad I could help!

Thank you yes it just takes time. Once you figure out all the small details air to paint ratio and thinning paint properly this set up is great! 😊
I have paint leaking from the top of the trigger where there is a nut and the needle goes through it. I am searching for videos that address that specific area but nothing so far
There is a repair/rebuild kit you can purchase the rubber garment the needle goes through is most likely worn out.
Do this gun take 3m pps 2.0?
I think there is a way to convert it but I haven’t done it myself
First mistake they made is the cup is made of plastic should be metal ,first spray job and it leaked and I have 9 different guns
I agree a aluminum cup would be nice and also help with cleaning
Je vais suivre votre chaîne
Thank you 🙏 for the follow my friend
First job cup leaked 🤮
Did you have a bag in it?
