Thank you so much for this easy to follow video. I am a 53 yr old mom and never considered doing my own home improvements before. After buying the right tools, and watching your great video, I now have a beautifully installed shower door!
9 years ago I saved this to my playlist to watch later. Installed my door with your help. This morning TH-cam says hey we recommend this from your watch later.
Shannon's videos are among my favorites. I just wanted to reemphasize the need for eye protection when cutting metals, including aluminum with the electric miter saw. If you don't have a full coverage eye protection take time to acquire them.
This answers all of my questions! You covered all of the bases in nice detail! Especially, like the demonstration of how to use the miter or hack saw for metal cutting. Thank you for sharing!
Excellent video and explanations!! Most of these "how-to" videos are poorly done with people who don't know (focus?) what they are saying in a coherent format. Shannon is very adept at keeping the steps simple and straightforward.
This was the best video for installing sliding shower doors! Easy to follow! I’m just starting on my home improvements and have subscribed as I know I will be referring to this channel for many more projects…painting bathroom cabinets is next on the list!!
I have managed to put in shower doors in one of my bathrooms after watching your video. I have practically no experience being a handy man and yet was able to complete this project. Thanks a million. Your video was the best among the other ones that I have watched on TH-cam. =)
Shannon this is a great video and very well explained with no rush at all. You know what, you could also get a job at some broadcasting station, English is not my native language and I understood every word you said. There are two bathrooms at my home, one without doors, but thanks to this video it will soon have them. Thumbs up.
I just put that same shower unit in for a customer, and will probably be putting in some doors like these in for them in the future.......Thanks for the great video....
Outstanding video!!!! Thank you. I cannot afford to have someone come out to repair my shower that continued to produce mold around the tracks nor could I afford (which I preferred) to update and replace the entire shower. I decided to google how to install standard shower doors and immediately saw your 30 minute video. I decided to take a look. You were very clear with your instructions and answered questions that I had about what type of silicone you were using. What initially appeared to be an intimidating problem, turns out to appear to be simple. As of right now I have removed all my side and bottom frames and I’m thoroughly cleaning the shower. I will be heading to my local home store and I’ll look for replacement rollers and I’m going to get started putting my shower back together. Thank you!!!
Hi Shannon, Thanks so much for this cool tutourial, we just bought a house that has three baths with showers and no doors on any of them. I was gonna pay to have someone do it for me but after watching this I feel confident I can do it myself, again Thank you so much, you're a good teacher!
installing one today or tomorrow and appreciate all the info. Still have not removed from box and will read all the instruction and add your info on the install
boy, what a nice explanation!!!!!- QUESTION: my shower wall extends to the actual wall, means i have to screw in the side rail into the shower hard plastic,,Is this a typical procedure?,
I have a Maxx glass sliding shower door...The inside came off of the track when I was scrubbing the soap off of the door...I got the rubber wheels connected up top but the inside door swings inside towards the shower now...What do I have to do to make it normal...I need help quick...The video was very informal and good...
I liked your video. I will go to do this job and your video was very good. The only explanation that seems like was missed is how the top aluminum bar was held in place. Is this bar held only with silicone?
Top Tip number 2 check the sides for plumb with a level before buying your door from the big box store. Most doors systems that you buy at the big box store can only adjust for 3/16 out of square and can end up with big gaps that will let water out. I didn't check my fiberglass shower surround before hand it is almost 7/16 out of square and ended attaching filler strips to the side pillars that filled in the gap. Obviously the builder didn't check for square when it was installed. They do not have the filler strips at the store I had to make them up with aluminum strips from the hardware section paint them brushed nickel ( yea I know but the color is close)and attach them with silicone adhesive. What should have been a 3 or 4 hour job at most turned in to multiple trips and figuring out a solution to a problem . My kit was manufactured by Sterling and has frame less doors and was well worth the hassle as it solved the problem of the shower curtain letting water out. Custom shower door installers can custom cut your door system to fit just about any situation so that may be a route worth looking into if your shower walls are not plumb and square.
After our shower was installed, (by a professional, no less) we had to take it apart and shim the back wall and both sides! The walls were 3/4 of an inch out of square/plumb! Once it was shimmed, i did the sheetrock so it hid the difference in plumb.
They recommend in most door frame set ups like this to not silicone there only on the outside edge. The idea is that so if water gets down there from around the side pieces then it will be able to drain back to the inside of the shower and air can get in to keep it from growing mould
Excellent instructions! Best on youtube! You covered everything I needed to know and I am a first time installer too! lol Keep up the good work! Thanks
Is the header piece just resting on the sides and not secured? I guess the downward pressure will stop it from moving. Great job Shannon! Very clear and precise. You should have your own TH-cam channel.
hey, i was wondering if you could do a video on installing cavity sliding door. wanna build a diving wall in my garage but not enough room for a normal hinge door so wanna put in a cavity slider but not 100% on how to do it. btw great video
Thanks! I'm about to do the same. Btw can you tell me the make and model of that shower stall? The one I'm working on is EXACTLY like this one but it needs a new pan (due to the original installer not putting a good base underneath). I've looked everywhere in stores and online.
Most shower door instructions call for no silicone on the inside. The reason is so that if you get moisture in there it can get out and drain back into the shower pan.
Can always cut out a piece of cardboard from the box to fit the shower receptor. Tape around the edges to prevent debris from getting under the cardboard and scratching the receptor. Then you don't have to take boots off.
Awesome as always Shannon 👍👍 one question re: the saw. Reason for using the mitre box and hack saw for bottom rail as opposed to using the chop saw for both top and bottom cuts ? Thank You
Hey Shannon thanks. What can be done for sliding doors that don’t close all the way the one door keeps rolling back. Is the track installed out of level or can the rollers be adjusted?
I would guess the track is out of level. You can check that and if it is maybe shim it up on the end that is high or last resort take the long side piece off and cut it off an are install.
hi Shannon! I really like your videos! They've helped me tackle a few projects! Can you do a video on instslling a pocket door? we want to put a couple downstairs in our basement & I'm not sure where/how to start. thanks! keep the videos coming! they zre a great help!
I have this same door system that was installed by a contractor about 10 years ago. He ran a bead of silicone on the inside edge of the lower door track that had become discolored so I wanted to redo that and put new silicone. Now I see that the contractor may not have properly installed this lower piece of the track since I have no idea where he siliconed on the bottom of the track where it touches the fiberglass stall. I removed the doors and top piece so I could have more room. My question is should I reapply silicone to the inner edge of the lower door track? Also, he never applied a bead to the outside edge of the lower piece of track.
@House-Improvements: I was wondering if you have any suggestions for repairing that "black" thing at the bottom of the shower sliding doors...it holds the two glass doors in place when you open and close them. Unfortunately, my Grandmother lost her balance and fell into the nearby glass shower doors (she's super blessed because she did not suffer any injuries)...however, it did knock the little black block thing at the base of the shower (which sits on the metal slide) a loose. Now, the bottom of the glass doors on the shower doesn't have anything to "keep" them in place when opening & closing them. The top of the glass shower doors (the header, I believe it's call) is fine. It's just the "bottom" of the shower doors that swings out due to not having the "black rectangle" thing to keep them on the metal track (groove) when opening and closing the door. Any suggestions on how to repair this problem would be most welcome. THANK YOU! *P.S. We really learned a lot from your tutorial...and appreciate you sharing your skills & knowledge with us!!!

You go, girlfriend! You are never to old to learn! What will your next project be?
Love the way you explain things and make it make sense. Was a bit intimidated by the project but confident I can handle it now. Thanks!

Installed my door with your help.

One of the better shower door videos on youtube.
Shannon's videos are among my favorites. I just wanted to reemphasize the need for eye protection when cutting metals, including aluminum with the electric miter saw. If you don't have a full coverage eye protection take time to acquire them.
true enough, a hand saw is pretty low risk though
Very helpful to view your video before we install our doors. Easy to follow directions and tips!
Thank for taking the time to help with our DIY projects. I also, don't know what I do without TH-cam.
This answers all of my questions! You covered all of the bases in nice detail! Especially, like the demonstration of how to use the miter or hack saw for metal cutting. Thank you for sharing!

Kellsilva.. your explanation was very helpfull thank you.
Great question. I prefer to put wood back there. you can use drywall anchors to hold those shower door side rails but wood backing is more secure.
Shannon, you're just cool! Thanks for these DIY videos.
Excellent video!!! So helpful to me. Made me look like a superstar to my new father in law! Lol

Thanks for the video. It is very detailed. Keep doing good job.
I don't know how I lived before youtube.

Heith Gagnon take the lower guide off the door and then re-install after you hook it into the track.
I feel that I can do this job now at my house because of u. Thanks
+hcracer1985 better not bro.
I liked your video. I will go to do this job and your video was very good.
The only explanation that seems like was missed is how the top aluminum bar was held in place. Is this bar held only with silicone?

Thanks and VERY helpful. Clarified my many questions! Good job!

Thanks
Beautiful install my man nice

When I win the lotto I will hire Mr.Shannon to build me a house.
resolution55555 He would be the one to hire!
Excellent instructions! Best on youtube! You covered everything I needed to know and I am a first time installer too! lol Keep up the good work! Thanks
Thanks for helping me.
Is the header piece just resting on the sides and not secured? I guess the downward pressure will stop it from moving.
Great job Shannon! Very clear and precise. You should have your own TH-cam channel.
yes most designs just have them sitting there.
If you silicone around the head rail, that will hold it on very well. Some manufacturers use a set screw on the top rail.
Extremely helpful, thank you for posting this.
Great Instructions! Thanks.
hey, i was wondering if you could do a video on installing cavity sliding door. wanna build a diving wall in my garage but not enough room for a normal hinge door so wanna put in a cavity slider but not 100% on how to do it. btw great video
TOP TIP cover the drain because if it is quality stainless steel screws they are not magnetic and will be a royal pain in the butt to retrieve.
Same as we did for Montgomery Wards back in the 70's.
I have wondered if you could install heavy glass doors on acrylic shower pan. But looks like thats what you are doing in this video.
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks! I'm about to do the same. Btw can you tell me the make and model of that shower stall? The one I'm working on is EXACTLY like this one but it needs a new pan (due to the original installer not putting a good base underneath). I've looked everywhere in stores and online.
Sorry but I do not know for sure , its around 20+ years old so may not be available anymore
Great job, thumbs up.. Are these doors crack proof an fade resistant? TY
Excellent!
thank you for the video. I am two seconds from installing the doors myself.
Most shower door instructions call for no silicone on the inside. The reason is so that if you get moisture in there it can get out and drain back into the shower pan.
what brand of shower insert is that im looking to buy one . looks real luxurious

I would seal the outside edge of the lower piece .
Very good
