to anyone who is having trouble where the mods don't show up and you cant pick a mod when you hit scrap and the book does show up. DONT MOVE THE MOUSE, just use the keyboard, if you move the mouse to select a mod everything disappears. just hit e after the book appears and then you can mod it. i did it with a brand new save file ( just leave the vault and talk to workshop) i went and bought a wooden bat and used that for mods. no levels up or perks or quest items in inventory. to help with once you get the book modded correctly and you're trying to scrap and store it, press and hold scrap (R) and then exactly when you release the scrap button press the store button (Tab) both menu's will pop up and then click scrap then store. Did this on PC after updates on 5/4/2024 no mods

@@kevinclaes4143 tap scrap, then hold store. while holding store, both should appear. so while holding store, press X to accept. there is a timing for it, so disable performance mode and wait 0.2 seconds while moving from scrap button to store.
Maybe it will help someone: 1) as @sound4117 said: turning off performance mode does help a bit 2) I found it MUCH easier to hold Scrap button (square) and then move your finger really fast to Store button (circle) while. Personally for me it worked in 9/10 cases while if I just clicked buttons without holding square first - 3/10
I had a bunch of quest items and couldn't get it to work with trying lots of different letters. I then switch the weapon to a Wood Bat and it worked the first try. So for those of you that have lots of quest items, try changing the weapon to something else (Wood Bat).
If you’re having trouble with the button press long press the scrap button and then when you’re letting go long press the store button as fast as you can but not at the same time
Couple things I figured out doing this at a late level with quest items on me. 1.) If you're gonna do this and max everything, keep a shitload of sacrificial weapons stashed away somewhere. Just in case you have to do it again from the 1st step for some reason 2.) Save between EVERY dupe 3.) Seems to work better with weapons that result in 1 scrap item like bats, knives, machetes, pool cues, etc. 4.) This is very important... if you stash all your items in a tool box to make it easier to get everything back (open container and select "take all")... be prepared to search everyone. Someone stole my deliverer in a settlement of 21 people. Checked everyone's inventory and eventually found it on a settler and assigned to bartender duty... the theiving bitch... 5.) There is no 5... I just like making lists :)
Playing on PS5 and I can confirm it works. The last two steps are a little tricky to do with the button timing but it is possible. I wish I had found your video sooner as I wasted a few points raising SPECIAL stats but better late than never. I notice that the scrap window (square button) only appears as soon as you let go off the button. It’s like a two step procedure. First you press square (nothing happens) then when you let go of the button, that’s when the scrap window appears. The store window appears instantly as soon as you push circle button. So with performance mode off (not sure if it makes it any easier but it’s worth trying), press and hold the square button first, then let go of square button and quickly press and hold the circle button ALMOST simultaneously. There’s like a little micro second gap between when you first let go of square and press circle. It’s tricky but once you figure it out it’s pretty easy.
I'm on ps5 but still unable to get it. The video said scrap and modify which is square and X . But you wrote square and circle which is for back . Both still didn't get the menu overlap. Still trying tho lol 😂
@@morrishurtado9085 Scrap and modify is for the steps when you're accessing the weapon workbench to scrap the weapon. The Square/Circle is for the steps when picking the book up off the ground to "reset" the book as unread. You essentially have to pres Circle as you're releasing Square.
I have gone through multiple videos, reddit posts, etc. because I couldn't get any letter combination to work. I'm not going back through them all, but they all made it seem like the letter was important... I tried multiple letters with dozen of weapons, but I can now consistently produce this with a few different letters when I use weapons that produce exclusively steel...
I have figured away to dupe much faster instead of trying to time scrap and store hold scrap release and then try store it's much easier and faster hopes this helps
Ps5 player here, this glitch is still up and running, it does require patience and skill to pull of the timing for the duplication. I’m not putting any hate on content creators that post this glitch, but they do need to figure out how to explain it WAY better. Once you have the book as a scrappable item to the Workbench and it’s on the ground, all you have to do is hold the Scrap button. Once you let go of the Scrap button, hold the Store button immediately. Once both menus are up, don’t let go of the store button until you scrap the book. Then repeat. The timing is super difficult, but it is possible. Just do this until all your stats are maxed out.
I solved it, you MUST use the brass knuckles. Name it lower case y and you must have material for the mod to apply to the book, it will work the first time.
For those of you at step 7, who scrap the weapon and are looking at the book, but go to apply a mod but there arnt any. What I did was i used a unmodified pipe pistol, named it lower case "y", did the scrap+mod button presses, and scrapped the pistol, when I was looking at the book, dont press any of the directional buttons. Just press "a" (or whatever A is for PS and PC), and it brought up the modifications menu for me.
If it’s not working try a weapon with a first letter that’s later in the alphabet. Repeated attempts with the 10mm and institute pistol didn’t work for me but the shock baton worked first time
I don't know if my game glitched out. When I look at my perk menu, and highlight strength, it shows that I can gain one extra point, but the option to pick strength doesn't show up. My endurance states that I have 8 is the max, but other stats go to 9. I probably have the max of everything, but the actual perk screen states that I can pick a few more levels under strength, perception, and endurance. But, when I pick up the special book after I do all of the steps, the only option is to do nothing. So, I'm assuming that it worked, I have maxed out everything, but the screen states differently. Gotta love technology? Major LOL. Either way, I was able to do it, thank you very much for this video! Out of five different videos, this was the only one that went step by step in clear and precise directions. Max stars for this TH-camr!
Someone in the comments said to use a wooden bat and that worked for me. I named it lower case y. I did notice that depending on the modification it would just show up as wood. So I chose blue paint and that made it the you're special for me and then modded and did the rest. So if you're in the game and have lots of quest items try a wooden bat(doesn't matter which, as long as it's a wooden bat)
Fallout 2024 Gamer here confirming that this does work till today! With the X or Y rename method then the additional mods and the scrap store method, you just have to time everything right. 👍🏻🤝🏻
I tried using a 10mm pistol, pipe pistol, and double barrel shotgun. None of these worked for me. I tried then using a wooden weapon as some comments suggested - a baseball bat I stole from Moe - and it worked first time. Additionally, it seems if you have quest items, you need to rename the weapon to a lowercase x so that in your inventory, the renamed weapon is directly before the You're SPECIAL! book
FYI - bug still works as of Nov 2024, however the mod Workshop Framework breaks/fixes the bug, preventing multiple stat increases with the duplicates. (Playing on Xbox)
My question is why have I watched six videos for the stupid book followed every single step to the letter tried every single letter with over 14 weapons and it will not work currently sitting at 4 1/2 hours attempting it
I found that the best way (for me) to get the double menu in Step 8 is to slide your thumb across the controller from square to circle. Works a solid 1/3 of the time.
Just to precise something that I didn't get at the first glimps. As a French player my book start with "Tu es..." not "You are..." That being said, u need to rename your weapon with the first letter of your book ("t" for me as a French, but "d" for German players for example) It seems obvious but mind aswell precise it Edit : thanks for the video btw
It just shows the switchblade still for me after scrapping and forces me out. When i do get the book it still wont let me mod it and kickes me out. And i havent been able to get the mod for the switchblade to show up with the book either. Im on xbox series x
Keep getting steel instead of the SPECIAL book on the workbench and everything is cleared out Edit: Got it to work. Just keep trying different letters and if you went through the entire alphabet just restart your game.
If anyone puts there stuff in like a container that is not a workshop and something’s disappear from your container trade with the settlers they take you guns and mama sometimes, it took me like a week to find this out, I randomly traded with Marcy long at sanctuary and she had all me missing 308 ammo. Hope this helps someone

I had the same issue on pc, you have to make you have a mod you are able to apply and when you modify/scrap you have to be hovering over the where the mod you're gonna apply is, if you move off then all mods disappear it doesn't let you apply any mods to the special book
For some unknown reason, I can't even rename the weapon. I tried with the name still the same and what I got is a 'steel', and a 'pip-boy' on another weapon.
Apparently you have to name your weapon that you're gonna use differently Another video said you need to name the weapon y Lower case y, since that'll resemble the You're special the most
So did all the steps correctly so I’m able to scarp and store the book, however when I drop the new duplicate book and read it does nothing and just goes into inventory, has it been fixed?
Hey guys, i dwelled into the comment section and some people think it has something to do with the materials your weapon generates when you scrap it, if you try a wood based weapon it should fix your problem
@@crunk1 make sure you store it using the workshop mode. picking it up forces you to read it. once you read it you cant get the bonus again even if you dupe it
as of july 31, 2024 the book on ground for the Store/Scrap button - scrap option in build mode is not there one you point at the book, just Select, Store, and Exit.
I am having trouble with the scraping and storing after the glitch with the weapon I can get both options to pop up but on like half a second before the scrap one disappears so I can’t do the glitch any advice ?
Guys you don't need to do the first part with scrapping a gun, I'm on pc and I'm able to just scrap and store the book and I'm able to get the another perk point. Also go into survival and sleep 6 days so ur super tired, hungry and thirsty so the debuffs allow you to get past the 10 level cap
Thanks for the info but that's not working for me on PC. The scrap option doesn't show up in workshop mode. I have Scrapper Lvl 40 requirement and all 3 levels of scrapper perk.
Not working anymore. After SPECIAL book becomes modded and I duplicate it with the scrap and move into workshop glitch, I can pick the modded book up from the ground and I do not get the SPICAL window anymore. Its just a scrapable item now. I have the Unofficial Falout 4 patch and Sim Settlement 2 with requirements installed, thats it.
It eventually worked (on PC w/M&K), but I had to change weapons. I read other comments that said the same thing. I even used a console command to drop the perception bobblehead on the ground (quest item) but it wouldn't work until I just grabbed a different random weapon. What seems to work the best for me on Keyboard is to sort of Hit (stomp) both those keys (E and R) at the same time but do kinda hard and fast, don't try to hold anything.
Scrapping the book worked, but when I went add a mod to it, every mod needed an invisible perk. You know how like some perks require a special perk before you can make that mod? Well this was EVERY mod in the list and the perk was also invisible or missing. I switched to the Knuckles and tried again and then it work first time. The 2nd key combo gave me a hard time, but i got it eventually
Followed this guide fully and it works great on PS5! only problem im having is that when repeating the last 2 steps i was able to get full strength and perception but can no longer get a point in any other special :(
Duping is easy. Modding “You’re S.P.E.C.I.A.L” to allow it to be duped, that took a little bit. Once it’s able to be duped, you will drop “You’re S.P.E.C.I.A.L”. you will select your attribute. then you will immediately open Pipboy again and “You’re S.P.E.C.I.A.L” will still be there, that is the copy you dupe and repeat the process Still works 6/10/2024
Same - I can’t modify the item as it was a weapon even though I have the required materials in storage. The modify menu glitches and the menu options simply disappear so I can’t select anything. Did you make it work somehow?
You have to follow the steps 100% accurately to how he explains them in this video. I renamed the weapon as y but I also didn’t have any quest items. >.< Your inventory has to literally be empty except for the weapon and the SPECIAL book.
So excited to try this, not going to do all the stats that way, just Luck, Charisma, and Strength but this will save so much time Edit: yeah no I raised them all lol 😅

@@thomasprins2598 same. I do have a few mods installed, but I tried with and without UFO4P (I guess I could try disabling ALL mods). But yeah, I can scrap and store the book, but nothing happens when picking up the new book.
@@crunk1 I just ended up doing the copper statue glitch. But I noticed that from time to time you have to exit the game and come back for things to function properly
This method sucks compared to the old method of having Dogmeat pick up the book, then grabbing it right before he did. That method was so fast, so easy, and totally free. I'm pretty sure that one was patched long ago, though.
I think I got it right, not sure. But when I named my knuckles x s and y the book pops up but wont let me modify it. And it disappears and kicks me out of the bench. Can anyone tell me what to do?
Worked making a new book but once I scraped it and stored it like u showed, and then I try to pick it up to max my stats. Like.. it doent pop up the menu to pick the stat that I want to maximize 😢

Yeah didn't work for me in german. I needed to name it "Du bist S.P.E.C.I.A.L.!" then it worked. Otherwise always steel appears.

I used a knife and named it v and it worked first try!
So is it patched on xbox or no?
Step 8 was tricking, but after a couple of tries it finally worked.
I also had to use a basic weapon as well for the beginning step.

I used a boxing glove and it worked as well, I have over a dozen quest items on my character and still got it the first fry 👍👍

I got to the point of it appearing at the weapons table but then it doesn’t give me the option to scrap it in the workshop mode

If the book isn’t showing make sure the gun isn’t made from wood and instead metal
For me, it worked with a pipe pistol, and its name has to be . On x box, it worked

If anyone puts there stuff in like a container that is not a workshop and something’s disappear from your container trade with the settlers they take you guns and mama sometimes, it took me like a week to find this out, I randomly traded with Marcy long at sanctuary and she had all me missing 308 ammo. Hope this helps someone
Guns simply wouldn’t work. I bought a board weapon from the vendor who walks around Sanctuary and it worked first try.

I had the same issue on pc, you have to make you have a mod you are able to apply and when you modify/scrap you have to be hovering over the where the mod you're gonna apply is, if you move off then all mods disappear it doesn't let you apply any mods to the special book
They must have fixed it. I did it correctly, but when dropped the book, didn't get "scrap" option when in WS mode...

For some unknown reason, I can't even rename the weapon.
I tried with the name still the same and what I got is a 'steel', and a 'pip-boy' on another weapon.

Apparently you have to name your weapon that you're gonna use differently
Another video said you need to name the weapon y
Lower case y, since that'll resemble the You're special the most
So did all the steps correctly so I’m able to scarp and store the book, however when I drop the new duplicate book and read it does nothing and just goes into inventory, has it been fixed?
That's what is happening for me too. Interested if anyone knows more details.
Hey guys, i dwelled into the comment section and some people think it has something to do with the materials your weapon generates when you scrap it, if you try a wood based weapon it should fix your problem
@@crunk1 make sure you store it using the workshop mode. picking it up forces you to read it. once you read it you cant get the bonus again even if you dupe it

It wont let you add the book to your invitory any more it makes you pick a stat to apply it on
That's why he said to use the point, then repeat the last two steps. It converts the book to an unread copy, letting you add another point.

as of july 31, 2024 the book on ground for the Store/Scrap button - scrap option in build mode is not there one you point at the book, just Select, Store, and Exit.
I am having trouble with the scraping and storing after the glitch with the weapon I can get both options to pop up but on like half a second before the scrap one disappears so I can’t do the glitch any advice ?
Guys you don't need to do the first part with scrapping a gun, I'm on pc and I'm able to just scrap and store the book and I'm able to get the another perk point. Also go into survival and sleep 6 days so ur super tired, hungry and thirsty so the debuffs allow you to get past the 10 level cap
Update you gotta have scrapper so ur able to scrap and store the book on its own
Thanks for the info but that's not working for me on PC. The scrap option doesn't show up in workshop mode. I have Scrapper Lvl 40 requirement and all 3 levels of scrapper perk.
Not working anymore. After SPECIAL book becomes modded and I duplicate it with the scrap and move into workshop glitch, I can pick the modded book up from the ground and I do not get the SPICAL window anymore. Its just a scrapable item now. I have the Unofficial Falout 4 patch and Sim Settlement 2 with requirements installed, thats it.

It eventually worked (on PC w/M&K), but I had to change weapons. I read other comments that said the same thing. I even used a console command to drop the perception bobblehead on the ground (quest item) but it wouldn't work until I just grabbed a different random weapon. What seems to work the best for me on Keyboard is to sort of Hit (stomp) both those keys (E and R) at the same time but do kinda hard and fast, don't try to hold anything.
Scrapping the book worked, but when I went add a mod to it, every mod needed an invisible perk. You know how like some perks require a special perk before you can make that mod? Well this was EVERY mod in the list and the perk was also invisible or missing. I switched to the Knuckles and tried again and then it work first time. The 2nd key combo gave me a hard time, but i got it eventually
Followed this guide fully and it works great on PS5! only problem im having is that when repeating the last 2 steps i was able to get full strength and perception but can no longer get a point in any other special :(

You don't have to repeat the last 2 steps honestly just do the duplicate glitch on the book and it'll still let you choose a Stat
I have lots of keys and stuff that ruin the glitch but I just used a 10mm pistol and renamed it “Y”
You didn't explain what to do if we had lots of quest items that cannot be transferred.
You have to either finish those quests or your fucked pretty much :( This ended up being the case for me so I restarted.

Duping is easy.
Modding “You’re S.P.E.C.I.A.L” to allow it to be duped, that took a little bit.
Once it’s able to be duped, you will drop “You’re S.P.E.C.I.A.L”. you will select your attribute. then you will immediately open Pipboy again and “You’re S.P.E.C.I.A.L” will still be there, that is the copy you dupe and repeat the process

You have to follow the steps 100% accurately to how he explains them in this video. I renamed the weapon as y but I also didn’t have any quest items. >.< Your inventory has to literally be empty except for the weapon and the SPECIAL book.
Could this be used to add a power armor mod onto a normal armor piece, for example tesla coils?
So look i dont know how rare this is ir anything but every time i do the scrap and store step i always keep getting the pip boy option..
So excited to try this, not going to do all the stats that way, just Luck, Charisma, and Strength but this will save so much time

Mine keeps changing to Wilson Atomatoys HQ key when using the 10mm pistol... will try a different weapon and see if that works.

It's not patched man, I literally recorded it after patch. Do you have mods installed? It could be that they're doing something
@@GamingExploits mod installed and I can scrap the special book correctly. Once I drop it and pick it up nothing happens. I’ll see if I can redo everything from step one
@@thomasprins2598 same. I do have a few mods installed, but I tried with and without UFO4P (I guess I could try disabling ALL mods). But yeah, I can scrap and store the book, but nothing happens when picking up the new book.
@@crunk1 I just ended up doing the copper statue glitch. But I noticed that from time to time you have to exit the game and come back for things to function properly
less fps means easier to do this glitch. If you are on pc i suggest lowering your fps to 15. Then it works everytime without issues.

This method sucks compared to the old method of having Dogmeat pick up the book, then grabbing it right before he did. That method was so fast, so easy, and totally free. I'm pretty sure that one was patched long ago, though.
Its still work right now while I'm doing it but it kinda hard trying to get it at the right time but still works
So got the book but all it does is allow me to pick it back up no extra bonuses.
the timing is so tight it works only1 in 10 times on pc ...that scrap and store are both active
I think I got it right, not sure. But when I named my knuckles x s and y the book pops up but wont let me modify it. And it disappears and kicks me out of the bench. Can anyone tell me what to do?
Worked making a new book but once I scraped it and stored it like u showed, and then I try to pick it up to max my stats. Like.. it doent pop up the menu to pick the stat that I want to maximize 😢

Every single time I hold scrap and then store it does it every so often but then backs off it because it says back and then it doesn’t work
I tried it on Legion Go it pulls up my pipboy every time
Still works , just practice the final steps

Hey thanks for this, but im finding out about this like at level 28, So i have like a ton of misc items i cant get rid of.... can you explain the process more indepth if you have a bunch of misc items? I dont understand the try renaming with different letters? Just choose random letters???
It’s the order that they’re prioritized in ur inventory. Try x instead of y and see if that helps
This does not work at all on PC ( unless you are playing the release version of the game ) total waste of time. spent over 4 hours trying. with both controller and keyboard.
