I’m surprised he didn’t mention how Arrowhead gave players the choice of either unlocking a new stratagem or saving a children’s hospital and get nothing. And surprisingly, they chose the kids. They even donated actual money to a children’s hospital in honor of what they did, and the kids sent back a letter thanking the Helldivers.

God I remember the EXACT major order he's complaining about too! It was an attempt to clear the automatons off that side of the map, but cus a LOT of the playerbase spent so much time trying to retake the Creek, they accidentally lost the planet leading up to it on supply runs, basically wiping out all progress on that section of the warfront *including the Creek.* I feel ya Heavenly, I really do.

The fact that the average helldiver dies 14 minutes faster than the average imperial guardsman is both hilarious and disturbing.
guardsmen get deployed by the thousands on the front, divers get deployed by the dozen way behind enemy lines. i'd say they do pretty good, more comparable to kasrkin if you ask me
@quantum5661 yeah it's also average for the both and since the guardsmen get deployed by the thousands the average is probably skewed because the ones in front are probably dying in moments while the backlines and more just waiting to do something, while the helldivers and their lower numbers the divers each death is affecting the polls a lot more

We have complete and total understanding of every single primary, secondary, and support weapon in use by super earth infantry. Knowing not just how to reload them, but to reload them in just a few seconds. In the real world, that is actually elite shit right there.

I fought so damn hard to preserve that place, and nobody gave a shit when it was under attack!!! We lost the damn FOB on that planet, and my blood was BOILING, and I swear to democracy I will fight till my name gets put on a plaque somewhere on that worlds FOB. The only saving grace was the time when we chose to save children over the anti-tank mines, that was absolutely glorious.

I think the reason why team-killing in Helldivers is funny is because it's often unintentional, whereas you almost have to make an active _effort_ to do it in other games. Helldivers is also designed in a way that means there are almost _zero_ repercussions to team-killing.
Every other game requires aiming at a teammate and pulling the trigger for a solid couple of seconds. In helldivers, it takes one stray autocannon shell or something, and you are instantly atomized. It's also very funny the way the divers tend to just disappear. The ubsurdity of getting turned into goo by a bomb is always hilarious.
I love how whatever Badger is holding as a mic keeps changing throughout the video.
I hope Badger knows people notice the effort he makes for tiny background gags like that.

Reasons I think getting team killed in Helldivers 2 is still funny and makes you smile after 100 times are the following:
1. Limited punishment for dying as its quite expected of you as a player so you accept your fate of death as a game mechanic.
2. Quick respawn timer that gives you a restock on your consumables and ammo leaving you possibly better off then when you died.
3. Probably happened because of an explosion. Who doesn't loves those?
4 Rag doll physics.
It's also got some of the best screams I've ever heard. It's so fucking funny to hear Yuri Lowenthal go "AUGH" as you get accidentally sideswiped by friendly air support.

@mr.hedado741 If I had a nickel for every time I played a 3rd person shooter that featured mechs where players didn't bother looking at the controls, I'd have 2 nickels
When this was recorded the mech was bugged where after taking ANY damage it would lose the ability to melee.
Badger's understanding of the mechs is pretty bad. I think he used one for like two minutes, didn't get it, and decided they were bad.
I also love how the game shows your injuries in the death screen like it's somehow relevant to your future gameplay, and not just showing how much you were turned to mush.
More often than not it basically just reads as "Injuries: Yes"
It can effect gameplay a decent amount, your arm being broken can decrease your stability when aiming your legs being broken will drain your stamina faster and your chest will make it so you Regen stamina slower

In regards to the 'invisible mines', sometimes they end up beneath soil that's been shifted by explosions, but mainly the engine only has so many resources to display the pretty red lights to indicate mines, so when that budget runs out, new mines beyond that budget no longer have lights, which makes them INCREDIBLY hard to see if you're not paying attention, and literally impossible if they ended up beneath the ground.

I feel that the secret sauce to winning on max difficulty (especially against the bots) is to treat it like Metal Gear Solid 5. Badger's crew are absolutely chaotic creatures, so they probably barely even saw it, but the game has COMPLEX stealth mechanics. You can Solid Snake your way through just about anything, including using strategems or other loud things to lure patrols away from where you want to be doing objectives. There are also specific commander enemies that WILL call in reinforcements unless you kill them quick.
Game's shockingly deep.
Yeah, if you call in for weapons and stuff 5 seconds after first dropping on the map - You are immediately attracting any roaming patrols and listless enemies in the viscinity right on top of you. They can see and hear the beacons and willl move toward them so you can end up ambushed while your waiting for your autocannon to arrive. Test it out on lower difficulties in a big open area and see how far away a patrol can see it, and you'll think twice about immediately calling in your gear on higher difficulties.
So basically if you mix Wolfenstein with Starship Troopers
Yeah, the first game was all about killing patrolling enemies before they can call for reinforcements and dropping as far away from the objectives as possible so you could call in all your stuff, even on low difficulties. As long as you were succesful at that you had it very easy. The more players were there the harder this got, meaning that with increasing player count on the mission it would switch from a pseudo-stealth game to an action frenzy. Given how badger plays and the fact he's always around his friends when playing and how this game compared to it's predecessor is more action focussed, it's no surprise he didn't notice that at all.
The funny thing about that stealth mechanic is that its a side effect from developing enemies' aggro mechanic, Stealth was an accident cuz the aggro mechanic was too realistic

Eh I can't watch him anymore. Skip to any point in the video and watch 5 seconds, you will see his motion capture interrupt the gameplay while he talks. I miss the old Russianbadger where it was all gameplay. Seriously not going to watch these videos when they are 50% mo-cap

What I love about Helldivers 2 satire is just how on the nose it is. I laughed my ass off when I saw the 'voting machines' in one of Super Earth's announcement videos was just a button that said: "Vote" with a checkmate beside it.
Also love how Super Earth proclaims that "Bots are stealing our babies!" and one of the upcoming missions is stealing a Terminid Larve from a nursery.

Helldivers Satire is such a perfect blend that I wish I understood why it works so well. Like, it is there and very strong, but isn't so overwhelming (to me at least) that it doesn't consume the rest of the product?
Also Helldivers 1 was like that too. For example when we beat the squids for having possible planet destroying WMDs, the debrief was about researching planet destroying 'tools of liberation'.

Helldivers 2 is proof that ragdoll physics in video games, is like having Jeremy Irons in a movie*; automatically bumps the quality up one letter grade. F becomes a D, B becomes an A, etc. Because if HD2 did NOT have the hilarious ragdoll effects for the players or enemies, it just wouldn’t be nearly as much fun.
*provided it’s the kind of movie where the director let’s Jeremy scream, “THIS SCENERY IS _F-KING DELICIOUS!!!”_ and go completely ham on set.

It’s honestly the little details that make the game so much better in my opinion. Seeing the shells disappearing off the side of the Slugger when you run out of ammo, the capes floating on in water, the two whole reload animations for every weapon in the game.
One animation is for when there's a round in the chamber (just inserting a new magazine or adding bullets) the other is on empty (requires locking after magazine insertion)

I still think it is absolutely amazing that majority of Helldivers decided to save a hospital of already terminally ill children instead of getting a new weapon. Knowing the internet, I thought they would have went full Space Marine (other than Salamanders) and just abandoned the civilian children for a new toy- I mean stratagem
They did it for the counter-meme(s). Stuff like “so they can work in the gun factories” and “It’s funnier to not get the mines.” Still bummed at not having it - every additional option against tanks, even if not meta, is nice.
