I’ve probably watched 100 of these videos, gotta give props to Eater. The editing is always on point, you let the chefs showcase their foods, and even stuff I’ve never thought about you make seem really tasty and interesting.
I ate at this restaurant around three months ago. No joke, the best barbecue I’ve ever eaten. The brisket MELTED in your mouth, I didn’t really chew at all. Super memorable. I haven’t gone since because it’s only open thursdays and saturdays and it’s very busy but I would totally recommend. As a vietnamese person though, the Asian inspired side dishes weren’t very good but the barbecue was great!
Being a pitmaster is already cool as hell, but on top of that love and dedication for BBQ he also shows his love for his heritage, bringing something new to the table by introducing flavors from his unique background
@@andyzhang7890 sorry but if you look throughout the time since man kind.. SE Asians and their spices has been traded throughout the world. Before Ghangis Khon and before Nomads. India is the world leader in spice trade. White folks barely learning how to incorporate age old spices. Wait until you find out what Lemon grass can do
Those char sui pork bells bao buns look absolutely unbelievable. Living in Scotland we don't get stuff like that, wish someone with as much passion as you would open something up here!
Seemingly chill pit master putting out what looks like some absolute flame BBQ. Dude emits a calming aura that just screams BBQ guru to me. Next time I am in Houston I have to drop by!
I was here and their food flavor was excellent. Only advice, once they sell out that is it, you can’t quick whip up bbq, if they are out they are out. So go early and get them when they are fresh, best way to enjoy any BBQ.
Yeah man! I’m trying to start my own bbq business. Right now we’re just doing pop ups. We have a small following, but one of the things that completely irks me is pre-orders. Once we setup and are ready to sell we have almost a dozen pre-orders. They don’t show up until about 20-30 minutes later when the food is getting cold. I appreciate the business, but I hate that they let the food sit there.
Wow. Pitmaster Quy Hoang and his team have really integrated Asian flavors into traditional barbecue here. The two culinary strands are inextricably woven together in some delicious ways! That pork belly with the fried bao and pickled on choy though...that particularly caught my eye. So creative. Pickling on choy seems like such a brilliant move too.
All the food in this video looks so good! It’s pretty much all of the flavors I eat everyday but in barbecue form. That makes the taste of the spices and seasonings even better!
Coolest thing is seeing the authentic stuff, then seeing the Mexican flavors, Thai flavors, or just different twist from people across the world. People are so creative.
This was one of the best of many episodes very creative and thinking outside the box and the fisherman and restaurant owners relationship is a plus and let’s not even forget the anchovice entire process from the farming to the meals
Texas bbq is so unique, everyone has their take on it depending on heritage. Especially here in Houston, the amount of different types of barbecue is insane! You have original traditional, to some interesting techniques from blending different cultures together
Seeing these BBQ and sushi videos on my suggested always puts a smile on my face, I've gained so much respect for the two crafts from watching these series.
Love this place! My gf and I were at cvs and followed our nose straight into blood bros and tried everything! Loved in and will definitely go back. Agreed that this is Houston BBQ.
I definitely enjoy this Channel and all the variety you bring. This episode is especially interesting as I loved trying different foods when I used to travel overseas in the east. The fact that they are taking some of the food culture they grew up with and adding it to the American experience and coming up with all these great ideas is awesome. That's what makes America great, all the food combinations coming together!
Been wanting something like this for a long time. Lots of Vietnamese folks moved to the Texas gulf coast in the 70's and I want to see every different culture add their OWN flavors to BBQ....then we get to eat it =)
A number of years back there was a BBQ Pitmaster show I believe on the food channel. I always loved watching the various Pitmasters on this show doing their different BBQ style cooking. It is sad that we do not have such shows on any longer. They were much better than the crapola on regular TV. I really love watching these folks doing it their way & it looks so damn tasty~! Shalom
Well, I eat for the FLAVORs, NOT for cultures! It's weird to me that people like you would even mention about "cultures" when eating, just like those nuts who demand perfect decoration or space of the food! Just tuck the hell in!
This guy is by far the most Texan Asian I have ever heard before. The way he says gojuchang is hilarious. But props to my fellow Vietnamese brethen on his come up
Hell yeah Brother. The food looks out of this world amazing. If, I were where you are, I would be a regular. Respect and blesses. To you, your family, and your crew.

I’m not going to lie what they’re doing here is amazing I’m a huge huge Asian food enthusiast because the flavors and umami in their food is all there. I wonder if they would consider doing something like kalbi but with the st loius ribs whole 🤔
Not really from his homeland though, it's mostly Chinese, none of the ingredients are common Vietnamese minus soy sauce, lemongrass, cilantro and fish sauce. Don't doubt the food is good but the there's nearly none to little influence to Vietnamese cuisine so I'm assuming he's possibly hoa (ethnic Chinese living in Vietnam).
Sometimes I inject my pork butts with Prik Nam Pla (fish sauce, birdseye chili, garlic and lime juice), season the outside with salt and pepper and then smoke them, serve in with some pickled veg on a toasted bun. I thought I was ground-breaking, this guy is awesome.
A whole year late but fr me too. But it's aight. At least he trying 😂. Additionally I butcher Vietnamese words and my gf claps on me for it so it goes both ways 😂👌
I don’t know why anyone would have a problem with this. Good food is good food, and combining good food from one area with good food from another area shouldn’t be hated upon.

What barbecue spot do you think Eater should do a 'Smoke Point' episode on?
All of them.
Franklin
Khoai Barbeque, also owned by a Vietnamese guy in Houston.
All of them!
according to eater, vietnamese heritage = korean, chinese, and thai
This is by and large the most integrated fusion of Asian and southern style BBQ I’ve ever seen. Really cool to see the passion.
