With this pinched nerve, neck pain, arm pain shoulder blade and now my chest muscle it’s so hard to avoid being depressed about it. My anxiety has been through the roof as all the symptoms make me feel hopeless… I’m getting ready to try all the stretches and exercises now. 🙏🏼

I to have the same problem, pain for me is in my tricep area when it's not there In my back and side almost under armpit. Even around to chest. Same anxiety. Can't seem to get an answer out of anyone. Been going on 4 weeks. Only thing that helps my pain is chin tuck while on my hands and knees then arch back like a cat

@@AcpEngineering oh no. It’s terrible! I’ve been going to PT and my Dr. And PT gives me exercises that hurt so bad I can’t do them. Then my Dr says my anxiety is making the pain worse! Like what! So she’s forcing me on Cymbalta. And yes the pain is horrible around my chest area too and armpit is so painful. I’m on steroids for 5 days to see if there’s inflammation. Hasn’t helped so far :(

Holy moly, I just did a thing that made my pain go from 12 to 0. I’ve been hardly able to walk all week because of stenosis, degeneration C7 pinched nerve that was radiating to my scapula. I grabbed my scarf, put it around my neck and laid down on a hard floor. With my head resting against the floor, I pulled back, causing traction. There was an audible pop and I could feel the vertebra move and I jumped up, pain-free. It was miraculous!! I’ve been watching videos and stretching nonstop and maybe that helped loosen me up, but darn!-that one single action made all the difference. Feel better, everyone.

Having had a slipped disc in my lower back and it taking 6+ months to get better and the sciatica go away, this is pretty anxiety inducing to me as it's more debilitating overall. As someone who is young, and in good shape, it's pretty depressing and there will be lots of ups and downs but it will get better.

I was diagnosed cervical stenosis, and decent arthritis in my neck. My pcp says I don't have the usual symptoms, my neurologist says I have symptoms that aren't attributed to the stenosis, I've been to PT on 3 different occasions, chiropractor, injections, massage. I'm 24, I've been active for the majority for the majority of my life but nothing I do helps, I'm so tired of not being able to live the way I want to. I don't really know why I'm writing this, I guess to be heard by someone in a similar situation. I just need some hope that I can return to a healthy life

An update: It took about 3 weeks to get better. I was prescribed gabapentin so I could sleep (be careful you will have withdrawals with this when you get off of it), and muscle relaxers. Mostly recovered after 8 weeks. I get occasional tingling down my arm still, but I suspect that will randomly go away some day. It's not a big deal at all at this point. Praise science and the doctors that are here to help us. Physical therapy and time was the biggest help.

Early January this year I had cervical radiculopathy all the way down my left shoulder and arm, complete numbness on my index and middle finger. An MRI a few days later confirmed a ruptured disc and C7 severe nerve root compression. It was only 2 weeks later I tested my left tricep strength, and I assessed it to be over 85% weaker before onset of symptoms. I couldn't straight my arm against gravity or do a single pushup so that had me worried. I started PT with chintucks, neck and upper back flexibility exercises and tricep strengthening every day. At 4 weeks I saw a neuro who recommended surgery as my arm was still very weak..but in the end decided to continue non surgical route as I felt while slow, I was still improving. Now at 9 weeks and tricep strength almost back to where I was (15% or so weaker) and now doing 10 dips / 15 Close grip/diamond pushups, where I don't really notice the weakness anymore. Pain and numbness completely gone. I know I my experience will not be like others but hopefully might help those weighing up surgery or not. If your symptoms are improving after 4-6 weeks and are disciplined to doing PT definitely recommend not opting for surgery. I feel the chin tucks, wall angels, and a few days anti inflammatories when I had stiff neck episodes really helped, as well as warm/hot baths. Nerve pain really sucks, and I was bedridden for quite a few days. Talking it through with someone can really help, and keeping at it and being patient knowing at these things tend to get better over time.

I went to see a specialist today. My neck has gotten some shifted discs and other things wrong with it and also probably a compressed nerve. I can't hardly use my arms for simple things like brushing my hair. My biggest issue is that I can't find a comfortable way to sleep so I am getting little sleep. You guys have been very helpful to me on numerous occasions. I'm not sure where I would have been without you. A cure would be great, of course, but just some relief is a blessing. Thank you so much for your excellent videos!!! Over a year ago I developed numbness and pain shooting down my arms to my hands, no doubt due to years (I'm 67) of poor posture - round shoulders and head forward position. I was carrying heavy pails of water when my symptoms began, but then I found they recurred while using my cell phone, typing at the computer, practicing piano - anything involving my arms in front of me or looking down. I couldn't drive without my hands going numb! Soon the numbness and tingling wouldn't go away in my fingers. I was worried, but due to Covid, I hesitated going into a doctor's or PT office. Your posture advice and exercises probably saved me from neck surgery! (A friend with similar symptoms had cervical surgery, with no trial of PT.) Symptoms gradually improved over months, but by one year, I was pain free and had no more numbness. I still have to remind myself to improve my posture at times, but I am able to do all the things I want without pain and numbness. Your sound advice is greatly appreciated!

I think my impingement started in the neck, but the resulting muscle spasms have tightened my traps which is now a second area of impingement. That's my theory at present. So I'm using a ball against the wall to massage my traps (to release the nerve there) in addition to using the advice in this video (to release the nerve from the vertebrae area). Just thought I'd mention that in case it's useful to others.
Thank you Bob and Brad for another great video! And I love that you mentioned Stuart McGill. His book "Back Mechanic" has done wonders improving my lower back and thus my life.

Thank you for this video. I suffer from pinched nerves in my C7/C8 area which also affects my shoulder, upper back, arm, elbow and hand. Sometimes it's the left side. Sometimes it's the right. A couple of years ago it was causing an intense burning in my upper back. I couldn't work for a year and was forced to return to work or lose my job. Finally, after some physical therapy I was better but since then I have been having flare ups frequently. Yesterday was the worse of the past two weeks even without the burning. I found your video and got started with your exercises and am happy to say I've gotten some relief. Thanks again.

@@mr.c8420 During the acute phases ya, because it was very difficult for me to get a good night's sleep. I would frequently wake up in the middle of the night with really numb arms/fingers/hands or a burning feeling in my hands/arms. But do the stretches, excerises, and take the meds and vitamins your doc/PT prescribes you. I have recovered about 99% after about 8 months. I also find that yoga helps alot, I always try to squeeze in abit of yoga during the workday if possible. Also try a moist heating pad. I feel that my shoulder and back muscles relax and I have a lot of relief from the numbness after doing about a 30 mins session.

@@grirl007 Keep going, I have since recovered 99% from multiple prolapsed intervertebral disc (I believe C3-C7) and try to maintain good posture and stretch/yoga to help the muscles relax. I was prescribed anticonvulsants like lyrica to help with the nerve pain, and it does help a ton with the insominia due to the pain/burning sensation at the expense of some side effects like sleepiness and grogginess in the morning.

Hi, yes the pain finally went away, but it took very long! I cant say these exercises helped, or anything healped really, it just went away on its own.. but if youre experiencing this pain, i feel very sorry for you. It was one off the worst ive ever endured. I have some tips to further help you. I found that using a hot water bottle on the worst affected area, helps for temporary relief, and in addition to that, i used a set of dumbels to do back & shoulder exercisees like bent over rowing, tricep extentions & shoulder press. Also extend the arms at the sides and do circular motions while holding the dumbells. Just cycle through all those exercises until total muscle failure & i found the nerve pain almost completely subsides, but it will come back again. I did this for 3 weeks straight before the nerve pain started to subside. Hope it helps

There is a bit of pain in my neck when I try these exercises though. Is that still a pinched nerve? I just want to make sure since it is more numbness going down my arm than any kind of pain so to speak. It's so annoying to deal with the aftermath for days until the tenderness subsides. Sometimes it even leads to a migraine, which I'm prone to have. I'll be doing your exercises to improve my posture. One sure fire way I used to trigger a pinch was doing the big morning stretch in bed that everyone enjoys. It always pinched my neck. 🤣 I stopped doing that once I recognized the pattern.
