5" SWIMBAITS FOR STRIPERS - Easy Limits in Shallow Flats on California Delta (Tides & Technique)

- Find big schools of stripers in shallow water feeding on shad in the winter. Some of the best action you can have catching big numbers of stripers are in these shallow flooded islands in the delta. These islands are the home to many of the baitfish stripers love to eat (bluegill, shad and squawfish). Fishing in two to six feet of water, you have to use the right swimbaits and the right jigheads to be productive. I’ve had many days catching fifty to 100 striped bass as they make the Delta their home all winter long where they feed up and grow big!

My friend landed a 23incher on mud sucker..
Your to far up north but the stripers will be there soon as there is lots of shad up north already.

Very informative video. What you put in a short video took me years to learn. Would like to see a glide bait or big Topwater video for striper.

Some days R better than others.
When something happens to my boat I just fix it. I like fishing n hunting so much I don't worry about breaking things as it happends everyday so just fix and enjoys the things you love to do!

Great videos lately especially. I have learned a lot. We were checked by fish and wildlife also. It appeared to me that they are training a new officer.
Yes when we got checked the warden said he has only been on the force for month. Most of the time there by themself not two or four guys. There just doing their jobs.

I like to fish the shallow flats hour before high tide and about half way out. I'm doing a tide series next week

Great video Allan, very informative and lots of action! That's was crazy at the end of the video... what was that all about? used to fish Franks tract, Rio Vista, Sherman Island and the south delta for years..had many memorable days when the limit was three fish limits using cut baits, shad and blood worms in the 70s-90s.
Yes I remember those days too! My dad used to take me into Franks Tract and we ould use sardines with NO sinkers free lining and caught many stripers plus we trolled in Franks too! Those were the days I'll never forget!

I'm using a 7-7.6' rod in a 3 power like bass rod & reel with 6:2 gear ratio. I'm using 50# braid with a 20" 25# florocarbon leader joined with a alberto knot.

Whats the best way to find the highest percentage spots in the flooded island ? Theres so much to fish out there, will live help or is it mainly experience of trial and error?
Honestly it's time on the water. I don't even turn my live on when i'm in less than 4 ft of water which is most of the time in the flooded islands. Best go look around at idle speed on a low tide n mark the weed line on your GPS then hit them when there under water.

People are asking why the wardens ran off? Because I started to shoot? LOL just kidding! They heard a guy yelling for help so they 4 officers ran to see what happened to guy. Glide baits will catch you bigger fish but 5" swimbaits will catch a lot more and big ones too!

Yes I went there last Thursday and did pretty good on the stripers. It depends on how much rain we get in the next two days. Think you can get them in both areas now.
Can you film what happns when you refuse to let them search your boat? Would be good content and informative
They would probably make me stay until they got a search warrent but I think the wardens just need probable cause to search your boat or vehicle. Don't need to be detained for hours lol

How can I find flats from shore
You can use maps of the delta with contours and see the shallow flats. You can install Navionics on your cell phone and look at the depth contours driving on the levee's.

So before the low tide begins to change to incoming tide then thats when you want to hit all the flats correct?
NO I fish the shallow islands hour before high tide so it's the end of the incoming tide. Then fish until it goes out about two hours before low tide again. Were doing a video series on tides coming up soon

So why did the DFG officer take of running?
There were four DFW wardens and they heard a guy yelling so two took off first then the other two ran off. He didn't even get to ask for my license lol

What size and type of line are you using on the fishtraps?
I use 50# braid and a 20" piece of florocarbon line in 25# test using the alberto knot which never failed me yet!

yes used to all the time but in the 70-80's bass n stripers. Have lots friend who still go there but the stripers are little more leary. I used to use big top water lures now they only hit small top water and flukes.
Those Game Wardens crack me up. You got a Search Warent? No! Then get off my Boat. Have a good day. lol
Game wardens have more authority than police officers and their just doing their job. LOL We give them a bad time videoing them as they check us.
