Fished the port of sac on Sunday. A lot of fish in there now. A cargo ship left the port at sunrise and of course killed the bite for about 2 hours. Then the tide turned and the fish started biting. 25" was our biggest.
Caught a 23" & a 26" striper out at limantour beach at point Reyes while fishing from shore with size 4 baitholder hooks & 2" camo gulp worms one hot summer day. Water was very clear & surf was very calm both hit about an hour b4 high tide.
Nice and in the summer months the stripers head out to the beaches usually south of the golden gate bridge. In the fall they come up into the Rio Vista area for the winter.
Thanks as I've been chasing stripers all my life around here in Sac. And I'm still learning all the time as tides have so much to do with being sucessful at catching stripers.
@@thoughtushldkno63 I am going on 12-13-23. I will be happy if I get one medium sized. I am new to this game. I plan on launching Kayak at 10:00 am and paddling up the river. Do you think the stripers will be up the river? I stay out of the main channel for safety reason since my Kayak is only 10 feet.
I went out of Brannon Island today and it was a little slow only catching four keeper stripers but my friend did real good on the high outgoing tide this afternoon.
Tall Tails were not on our fish finder. I struggled last weekend. We caught fish I didn’t catch very many. The wind went out of my sails Alan. I’ll B Back.
@@AlanFong no we’re back to the grind at home. We stayed Thursday Fir Sat. My brother has a big boat no trolling motor. And a 2stroke….tuff to lure fish or sneak up on a spot. I jiggled tossed and baited. Not a lot of action for us last weekend …….I’m still hungry for fish N I should have my boat back by January. I’ll try to meet up with you then Alan.
Alan, I went out Sunday and my boat control was not optimal to keep presentation vertical. I was battling current that is not just as easy as it would seem. Do you have any tips other than more practice? Thanks for taking the time to do these learning videos!
Always keep you boat heading into current and with a electric trolling motor on the bow really helps. You should only be taping it on once in awhile to keep line vertical. If it doesn't stay vertical then use a heavier spoon. Now I'm using a 2oz spoon in 25-30 ft. If tide ripping might go to a 3oz to stay vertical.
I have a kayak and live close to Eckley Pier near Port Costa. Should I wait until Spring? I caught a nice Striper a few weeks ago, but nothing since. Thanks for your great insight
I went saturday on 12/2. Launched out of rio vista. Worked the 1st barn with a boat of 4. We limited 3 times over on live mudsucker. Then i went out solo on 12/9 and got skunked.
The stripers are on the move and seem to stay in one area for a few days and then they move. Some time returning in the same area if there food.Watch the tides as they are a big factor
@AlanFong how many ft of movement on tides would you recommend? I used to fish the smaller tide movements as the bigger tides would make the water murky. But lately it seems like you need more movement while also needing clear water. Thinking of launching rio vista again this Saturday 12/16. Forecast shows 64⁰ so I'm hoping it brings the water temp up a couple notches. Last weekend the water temp dropped for sure.
The stripers like the moving tides just knowing where to go. On high outgoing tide I like fishing big flats like in 2-4 ft water n weeds. Slower tides I'll spoon the breaks in 25-30 ft
@AlanFong thank you, I appreciate the info! The channel break worked great on 12/2 @ #21. Then 12/9 I couldn't get hit anywhere. Heading out again this Saturday 12/16. I'll try working a glide near the weeds if the jig doesn't work. Also gonna drift something live and see how they respond. Hoping the water temps are up a bit. Saturday is supposed to be warmer.
The stripers are moving like every three days so I'll graph going down stream and if I don't see them I'll move until I see them as years on the water helps lol
No you might have to go out to Rio Vista to Pittsburg. You might catch some under size stripers with a keeper, but most are in the main river now. WG area is good during the spring. If your fishing from the shore tey Sherman Lake area, lots area to fish from the shore.
There are still lots stripers in the delta right now. I've been catching a lot everyday and their feeding on crawdads. Once the water warms up another five degrees I think they will head out to the bay n ocean
Normally they start moving into the delta in Sept and stay feeding until they go up river to spawn. They feed real heavily during this time. Spooning on breaks in 20-35 ft and on high tides I like fishing big weed flats. From Rio Vista to Liberty Island are my favorite areas

Yes I heard the stripers were in the port. When the ships come and go it turns off the fish bite.
Thanks for all the great videos and advice!
Glad you like them! Hope they help you catch more fish
