@@kimmogensen4888 what’s even more tragic is that before thr high riders literally carved out parts of his brain to make the butchers nails fit in his head, Angron originally had very strong empathic powers, he even used them to take the pain of his fellow gladiators so they could sleep better.
He was meant to be an angel on par with sanginius, and as kind as Vulkan himself. But that was taken from him, then the death he earned with his true family was taken from him. Then the death he sought in the heresy was taken from him, and all that is left for him is blood and slavery, and nothing more.

This is super interesting, basically Angron saying his reason for ordering the implantation of the Butcher Nails was a test to see who would be ballsy enough to resist him, like he resisted on Nuceria. I think this is really self aware of Angron, since he feels its in his nature to resist but also seems trapped to not be able to do so, he puts his sons in the situations to do what he wishes he could. Like he knows he's messed up, but wants better for his legion. It's funny how he insults them by calling them the Emperor's dogs, but probably likes them more than his traitor sons for fighting back against their destruction. I feel so bad for the HH era world eaters, they’re like abused children desperately seeking the approval of a drunken father who blames all his problems on them. Perturabo was similarly rancid and cruel but for angron his sons seemed to genuinely want his love and approval and were willing to go to any extreme to achieve that. Maybe it has something to do with his supposedly compassionate nature that was completely drowned out by the nails. Usually astartes would inherit their primarchs personality so perhaps that is why they were so desperate to have a relationship that so many others got to have with their “fathers”. I do hope that they make a chapter of “unknown origin” that’s got hints to them being sons of angron just like the Blood Ravens are heavily implied to be sons of magnus.

Angron really is the only Primarch that the Emperor truly failed. Magnus, Lorgar, especially Horus. The Emperor really tried to shape them into loyalists while respecting them. Angron? Angron had his moment taken from him. His chance to be the Primarch he was meant to be was stolen, and he was nothing but a hollow vessel for anger ever sense. Angron is a lot deeper than people beilieve.

Had the Emperor gone down to Nuceria and fought alongside Angron, had they been freed of the rule if the elite, Angron would've been the most loyal of them all. Instead, he traded one set of leashes for another. Instead of dieing with his brothers or freeing them, he was forced to watch them be slaughtered, powerless as the Emperor took him from his wishes

@@adennkyramud116 Dying in battle side by side with his fellow gladiators wasn't just a choice Angron made. It was the only choice that had true meaning to him. The only time he had the agency to decide his own fate. Angron had made clear what his wish was, a worthy death, free from anyone else's influence. Saving him would have meant taking that choice away from him. This is purely my own speculation, but I sincerely believe Angron was so ruined by what the rulers of Nuceria had done to him that the only thing the Emperor could have done to earn Angron's loyalty would have been to respect his wish and let him die.

    • @Munin497
      @Munin497 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@declanlee6894 Yes, especially since the Emperor would have known Angron's mindset in detail, having created him, it would have been obvious no act could have been worse for gaining respect or loyalty. He could have wanted the resources of the planet unplundered, but then he should have captured the entire rebel army, not just Angron, which should be well withing the Emperor and his guards' ability. Though I think the Emperor made as big a mistake not recognizing that Angron was far too damaged to ever serve as a good primarch. You'd think the wisest man in history would recognize a rabid dog an not let it loose on his land.

As I've gotten into more of 40k mythos, this is the best version of Angron's voice out there. No one comes close. The gravely, low growl that is delivered here is perfect. He's equal parts peerless gene sire and enraged, guttural beast.

I agree. The official black library renditions for Angron are so weird. He sounds more like a snickering wretch than a conqueror in agony. Starscream instead of Megatron. The black library voice actors do a good job on some characters but not others. The Night Lords omnibus with Talos and his gang is a good example for amazing voice acting tho not so much Angron in Betrayer for example. This guy nails it tho - the growling, hurting ursine beast that is Angron. Hell yeah!

Oh my gosh man. I have listened to this story at least a hundred times, and i still get new insights on the story telling. When angron comes for varus and asks him "do you have something to tell me?" Varus assumes that the primarch heard his outcry. But when varus starts to ask why, asking why he would be betrayed, Angron gets annoyed and silences him. Like he's specifically looking for one thing from him and is irritated he didnt get it. But then Varus says it. The thing he wanted to hear from all the others, who wasted their last breaths asking useless questions. Getting the courage to finally speak up and speak his true mind. Angron gave Varus approval, because at that moment, he became a true son to Angron. He HATED him, just as Angron hated his own father. Thats why he did all he had done to his legion. To show them why he had to betray the emperor. To turn them into the rabid dogs the emperor turned angron into. This story, cry havok. It is truly one of the best things ive ever had the privelage to experience.

This reminds me of another story about Angron I’m having trouble finding again. I don’t remember if it was official or fan-made.
It was about the Emperor confiding in a Custodes that he intentionally led Angron to hate him, as a means to prolong Angron’s life. It was presented that, basically, the Nails were in too deep, and the Emperor hadn’t the means at the time to safely remove them. But he wagered he might later.
The Emperor was very confident that if he took away Angron’s motivation-the protection of his gladiators and hated of the Riders-by intervening in that battle, his son’s anger and bloodlust would subside, and his empathic tendencies would take over. And as such, the nails would multiply in their toll on his mind, furious that Angron no longer did as they wanted.
And so the Emperor gave Angron a new target for his hatred: himself, if only as a means to buy time to try and fix things later.
The Emperor compared what the nails had transformed Angron into to a shark; to a predator that would die if it stopped moving, stopped hunting, stopped fixating on a target.
Does this ring a bell for anyone else here, lol?

The Istvan story I’ve always wanted is one of shifting perspective. What did the Emperor’s children think when he heard one of their captains telling them to seek shelter, did they gain an epiphany about the divisions in the legion? What did the World Eater think when just moments away, locking eyes with a human rebel in an underground bunker on Istvan 3 did the shockwaves of the first virus bombs shook the ground above him? What did the Death Guard think when his brothers in the warrior lodge found his loyalty to the Primarch wanting, an instant before his body is consumed by the life eater virus? What ran through the mind of the Son of Horus as he heard his father, the War Master, betrayed the Emperor? Personal conflicts and mental breakdowns are why I’m here.

Its strange, ive come to understand angron and also be disgusted by him, his rage can be understood, his pain can be understood. But what he did yo his sons is unforgivable, he sees his actions as deserving for the denial of his death, yet all i see is a man forcing his pain onto others, and abusing the love a son holds for his father. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, trauma channeled into abuse towards those who love you like no other.

Angron has one of the most interesting stories, what a shame he was made a Demon and what a shame he had the butchers nails implanted, hope somehow, he gets reverted to what he should have been, by the Emperor, although it is utterly extreamly unlikely.

Considering a big chunk of those betrayed on istvaan 3 were loyalist world eaters I was not surprised where this was going.
Even though angron hated his legion(or simply did not care for them) its implied the reason why he ignored horus and ran down to fight because he at least wanted to face them down rather then stab them in the back.
In a twisted way he kind of respected them enough to give them honorable deaths.
Honor being a big thing for angron considering how he was brought up.
Same can not be said for the ones who followed him.
Its funny how he still did not give a damn about the traitor world eaters and took off first chance he got.
So yeah I have a feeling a lot of traitor world eaters hate that they screwed themselves up for a father who wanted nothing to do with them.
While messed up from the nails a lot of the loyalist world eaters where 100% loyal to the emperor/imperium.
Also I guess mago and those who did not want the nails was right for rebelling and angron must see them as sons.
Even though he slaughtered them for saying no.
