      Prepare for college now . You need a bachelors to become a teacher in Korea . Try learning a foreign language at your high school or jr high school . Learning any language will help you learn Korean. If you can take korean language classes that might help too.

    Hi! I recently came across your channel, and your more recent ones on teaching English in Korea have really opened my eyes to many aspects of teaching abroad. They have also answered a lot of questions that I had about this topic (something that I have thought about a lot over the last few years). I also recently graduated with a Bachelors in Secondary English Education so this is something that really catches my attention as something I could potentially do! It really sounds new and exciting so thank you for making these videos! They were very helpful!

      I'm so glad! 😊 And yes you should. You won't be able to apply through a recruitment agency if you already submitted your initial application directly to EPIK. Korvia is probably the most famous EPIK recruiter, but here is a list of all the official ones on EPIK's website www.epik.go.kr/contents.do?contentsNo=57&menuNo=288

    oh my gosh thank you so much for this video! it was so informative and answered most if not all the questions swirling around in my head these past few days! i do have one question though, when you say the korean school year starts in february, when would it end? (after the second sem is over),,,again thank u so much!

    • @taylerwithane
      @taylerwithane  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so glad! 😊 So the Korean school year is a little strange in my opinion, and exact dates depend on your school and what level of school you teach. In my experience teaching elementary, the first semester is from around the end of February/early March through about the end of July. Summer vacation then takes place most of August, and the second semester starts around the end of August. The second semester goes to about the end of December, then there's about a month of winter vacation in January, you come back to school for about 2 week in February, then there's about a 1-2 week break until the next school starts.

      I'm so glad! And I actually don't have any recommendations for you as there are sooo many out there and EPIK doesn't put too much emphasis on the company you get it from as much as you just having one. I got mine from the International TEFL Academy, but it was quite pricey and definitely recommend finding something cheaper.

    Thank you so much for breaking this down for us. I was introduced to your vlog by accident, it did not occur to me to search for info on teaching in Korea. When I came across yours, I was hooked. I do have a question for you. I am a late transition of career in life, do you think it is still feasible for me to take this on. My plan is to teach there in about three years. I just started my graduate program in ED-TESOL and I am 51 years old. Please be honest with your thoughts on this, I would appreciate it.

      Technically yes, since EPIK's age requirement is supposedly under the age of 62. However, I know they tend to hire younger teachers (but maybe that's because more of them apply). I do remember seeing some older applicants, possibly around your age, at my orientation though.
      I actually recommend you also look into some university or international school positions since you are obtaining your master's in the field. EPIK might actually be below your level of qualification and more teaching opportunities are open to you in Korea having your master's. Unfortunately, I don't have too much knowledge around what those are, but I think it's worth looking into 😊

    Thank you Tayler, that's a lot of work to do for being an EPIK. I was so relived once you said "South Africa" i always thought they wouldn't allow South Africans to teach their children. May i ask if you have been to various interviews, if you did were you not accepted because of the color of your skin. If there are any parent meetings do the parents avoid talking to you because you are black?

    • @taylerwithane
      @taylerwithane  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I actually only applied to EPIK, so I only had to do 2 interviews: One when I initially applied in 2017 and one when I reapplied this year to move cities, so I've had no experience of discrimination at all with the interview process. From I've heard, there are more instances in discrimination during the interview process when applying to private schools (hagwons). And as far as the parents go, I don't have to interact with parents at all with this job.

    Hi Tayler I have enrolled my self for the TEFL but I don't have a teaching experience will I still be considered ? I am Indian so is it necessary to have a teaching experience apart from TEFL

    • @taylerwithane
      @taylerwithane  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Since you are an Indian citizen, you will need a teaching license in English in order to be able to apply to EPIK. Now what I’m not sure about is does having a teaching license in English exempt you from needing a TEFL certificate. For that question, I would reach out to EPIK directly.

    My friend and I are planning to go next year for the autumn (fall) term. We are SO confused about the whole sealed documents thing! Like, do they want the original in its original envelope, because I mean, we already opened our diplomas/certificates to see our final award. Could you please help deconfuse us? Hey Tayler. Firstly, you seem like a really nice person and I love watching your videos.
    I am an Indian and I have completed my TEFL course. I will be receiving my certificate in a month. As you mentioned in the video, I need a teaching license in English, but I have no experience in teaching. Will I still be considered?

    • @taylerwithane
      @taylerwithane  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! From my understanding, I don't believe the teaching license and the TEFL certification are the same thing. Unfortunately, I don't have too much knowledge around applying from India, so maybe that's something you should reach out to EPIK directly about.

    Hi Tayler! Thanks so much for sharing this video. All this detailed information is appreciated. One question though... you mentioned that you need a bachelor's degree from a university. Would a bachelor's degree from state colleges and community colleges work as well? Thanks so much! Hope you're doing well and staying safe and healthy.

    • @taylerwithane
      @taylerwithane  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Actually, I'm not too sure of that answer. EPIK says university on their website, but I know in Korea sometimes they use college and university interchangeably. Maybe you should reach out directly to EPIK for that question, sorry I can't be of more help!

    So I have a bachelor's degree in health sciences and have been teaching English online for VIPKid for almost 3 years, how does this sound for my candidacy? Also how are the pay scales set?

    • @taylerwithane
      @taylerwithane  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you’d be a great candidate, especially since you have online teaching experience (a lot of candidates don’t even have that lol). Definitely worth applying! And yes the pay scales are set, but there may be opportunities to earn more money during the school year like helping out with another school’s English camp or a program through your office of education.
