In this video, I share with you exactly what it's like to be an English teacher in Korea. Join me on a typical day at my visiting school (I go there 1 day a week), which happens to be an all boys middle school! I was close to doing an epik program in Korea or the jet program in Japan to teach English just to study abroad, but I recieved an oppurtunity to intern at an animation studio in Japan trough an intern program based in Tokyo. I am a Black female too and watching videos like this gets me pumped about going to Japan next summer of 2017. I want to blog about me going to work, etc too. I enjoyed watching this video a lot. im also looking forward to being an english teacher in korea and ive always wondered
1. how do you come up with the lesson plans? like where so you get ideas from? does you co-teacher give you a general topic of what to make it about?
2. do you use the same lesson plan for other classes or is 1 class your limit for each lesson plan?
It depends on the school but at my schools, I'm given complete creative control over what I teach. I usually think about what I think they need to know (what phrases they consistently say wrong, etc.) or browse through this website called waygook.org for ideas. I typically will use the same lesson for all the classes in a day.

You're so beautiful and I love the way you teach in class! You also seem really sweet and I heard those like 2 seconds of Frank Ocean at the beginning haha. I loved this so much, thank you for showing your experience and a little more of life in Korea! It was really nice seeing what Korea is like and what a normal school day is (even from a teacher's POV). The boys (students) seemed really really respectful to you, even though they're probably a little rowdy just as some young boys tend to be, probably moreso in an all boys school haha (saying this because I saw that kid flip the other one off lmao). Loved the video, you're great!~❤️

I love this! I’ve been trying to learn about EPIK and I’m sooo glad that you showed the classes and your slide shows because it makes it so much more realistic and doable. This honestly looks like such a cool job! You should do videos on how everything works once you get into the schools and stuff like that ect.
70% of the boys were wearing glasses😂 What happens in Korea for the majority of boys to have such bad eyesight...
some are prescription and some are just for looks lol
It's hardly fake. These boys are video game addicts and have progressively destroyed their eyesight since elementary school days. But Koreans in general are predisposed to short-sightedness. I taught there for 3 years.
watching this reminds me so much of what I did in the classroom...I kind of miss the school lunches by looking at yours!

I want to study in S.korea and researched that I could go with limited experience with the language but most of the classes that I find interesting I have to speak almost fluently.
It's so interesting to see you teach in Korea. I'll be going there for vacation in March. I currently teach English in Japan and I love it here. It's nice to see how things are in Korea. You seem to have a lovely personality~ have a great holiday. Hello from Japan :)

I was told to repeat grade 12 next school year. Did it discourage me to finish? Yes.
But I like Korea. And teaching was my backup plan. I honestly didn't know that teaching English in Korea was a thing. 😱

When I first graduated from college, my father tried to get me to go to Japan (we lived there when I was younger). I didn't do it even though the money was great. So it was great seeing this because I'm thinking about doing a 1-2 year teaching gig in another country in the future.
I think their learning is so critical. I really want my children to go to school down there.
