    I know this is from last year, but what hotkeys or whatever are you using just before making sure the subdivision is before the displacement?

      He used Ctrl + 4 to create subdivision modifier

    Hi! Appreciate when people redo their content to improve it
    I do have a question. Would you consider this a good way to start creating videogame map? I am currently tackling a big personal project and by using a real-life height map I could potentially save a lot of time instead of manually creating all the necessary environment. However I'm afraid that this particolar setup may be not so particulary precise - efficient when scaled in proportion to the human model I'm gonna use in it. What do you think?

      It could totally be used as a start. You could create your own height map or use an existing one to work off. Then just tweak it as you seem fit. Add more details where you want it and such. It would take a bit of work to get it game ready and I’m not 100% sure on how to go about that sort of thing as I’ve not tried a game engine workflow where things are being rendered at different levels of detail depending on where they are for example. But with all that said yeah I don’t see why you couldn’t use this as a start to see how your environments will potentially look!

    Thanks for the video! Do you know how you can make this plane have thickness underneath so that I can 3d print it?

    • @Littlerolz
      @Littlerolz  ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest I don't know the first thing about 3d printing and how to correctly set it up sorry!

      a soldify modifier will do the trick for you. you might need to apply it before adding the displace modifier though.

    can you put the image file in the description, i searched on google but i can't find something that same with yours

    how do i subdivide

  • @Reinstall

    IS there a specific type of height map that works. i keep on adding one and nothing happens.

    • @Littlerolz
      @Littlerolz  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. So long as it’s in black and white and an image format that blender can read, then anything should work. Just double check your settings and it should all work

    where did u find those map displacements??

    • @Littlerolz
      @Littlerolz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just found them on Google image search. Just look up either a real place or game location with height map or displacement map after

    Where can you get those breath of wild maps?

      I just did a google image search for botw height map and it came up, the one I used came form planet Minecraft strangely enough

  • @spooksiewooksie1947

    Not sure why when i add my height map 1:37 in textures, the image is just shown as black in the preview window and nothing happens to my plane.

    • @Littlerolz
      @Littlerolz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What format is the image. If you’ve downloaded it off the internet it might have saved as a webp format which basically can’t be read by anything as far as I can tell. Just make sure it’s either a png/jpeg or tif those are your best options

      @Littlerolz oh my goodness! Thank you sm for replying! I feel very embarrassed haha, yes my image is a jpeg, however what I noticed is that you had selected "single image" in the source, and also I was in edit mode instead of object mode! I selected my plane again, redid everything from the displacement modifier, all while being in object mode and it worked! Thank you so much for taking your time to respond! I'm completely new to blender as I'm simply just a 2d animator/artist haha

    • @Littlerolz
      @Littlerolz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ay nice. Glad you figured it out! Yeah I went straight to webp cos it’s what catches me out the most when I go to import an image haha. And saying “simply” a 2d animator is doing a disservice, I’ve tried to get into it a number of times and it’s certainly not easy!
