FYI, One Piece series creator gave a strict "no romance among the crewmembers" rule to the showrunners of the live action adaptation, so you can rule out any official ships among Zoro and Nami or whoever. In general, Oda doesn't focus that much on romance in One Piece, even outright saying, in response to a fan asking if characters will fall in love, "THEY'RE IN LOVE WITH ADVENTURE". He later elaborated that romance stuff isn't really his strong-suit and there are plenty of other manga and anime if you're looking for that kind of thing.

Remember, it’s based off of a Japanese manga, and in Japan, family names come first.
So with Monkey D. Luffy, Monkey is his family name, and Luffy is his given name. Hence why people call him Luffy in general.
Same with Roronoa Zoro. Roronoa is the family name, so everyone typically calls him Zoro

They struck gold with Buggys actor, he's the best cast character in the show and that says a lot because others are also perfect.

Arlong is my personal fav with Mihawk as second in terms of side characters. Kuro and Buggy are fighting for top 3. Kuro being a whole ass slasher villain was great.
The cast overall is flawless. I can't point out a bad match.
Everything you're feeling about Buggy is literally what you're supposed to feel.
It means the costume designer, the writer, and the actor himself has done a good job.
I wanted to say the same, actor and crew did great job with this bc you feld literally what most feld when they meet Buggy for first time, and he is that for reason....

Im just sad he really did just become a villain of the week. He was so menacing, but got taken out so quickly once the actual fight happened, and Zoro didn't get injured. The episode ends exactly where it started and nothing really came out of it. Its a shame because Buggy's flashily amazing in this.

@@mr.n3282 I know, though here in the live action he is presented as very menacing. I'm just trying to say, the stakes were at a false high, left a bit to be desired when nothing was lost from the characters, not on the fault of the people who made the show. It's just a missed opportunity due to limited episodes and budget. The show has already surpassed all expectations anyway.
It was explained at the beginning of this episode that the reason they're called Devil Fruits is because you won't be able to touch seawater again after eating one. So yeah it's kind of a kryptonite only it's everywhere.

If you eat a devil fruit, the sea will hate you and takes your ability to swim. And the sea will also weaken you.
It's actually "all water" not just "sea."

The actor for him is Colton Osorio, his parents are Colombian but he was born in America. The actor who portrays older Luffy is Iñaki Godoy who is Mexican. So they are technically both hispanic.
And Oda said in real life Luffy would be Brazilian so it all fits
The confusion is because Hispanic is just as Germanic, it is an cultural, linguistic, "ethnic" group to some extente, not a "racial" one. Iñaki is mixed, but of predominantly "white/Caucasoid" ancestry, it is quite obvious, white Colton is very obviously mulatto, of mixed white and back ancestry. They do not look alike, tbh, that's hwy some people got confused.

They literally explained to sea water thing at the beginning of the episode. The reason why they're called Devil fruits is because of the deal you make after eating one, you gain powers, but the saps your strength and ablity to swim.
I was shocked how awesome Buggy is in the show. I loved what they did with him.
What is really underappreciated in the show are the child actors playing all the younger versions of the main characters. They're all great!
When you started speaking over the part where young Luffy is having the devil fruits explained to him I was concerned you’d miss some important things. I was right 😂
So basically Luffy was told that the trade off from getting powers from the devil fruits is that “the ocean turns her back on you”. So yes sea water becomes a kryptonite for devil fruit users (which is why luffy also said he pretty much can’t swim). It drains them of their powers and weakens their strength to the point that they are useless 😊
It's all waters though
To me Luffy is like the Ted Lasso of the Straw Hat Crew. He’s so positive, motivational, and honest with everyone he interacts with that he makes everyone just want to be better-or kill him. But, for his crew at least, it makes it easy to follow a guy like that because you just naturally want to believe a guy who’s willing to inspire instead of trying to rule by fear and intimidation.
It’s like Luffy maxed out on Charisma and Strengrh, while sacrificing a bit of Intelligence (but not like zeroed it out). Lol

Even in the anime Buggy wasn't meant to be intimidating here. He was always meant to be a joke until much later on.
Buggy's story goes like this:
episode 1: threatneing villain
rest ofthe series: bumbling fool who luffy barely remembers
Buggy was very intimidating here in the manga. And it showed that his real power is his showmanship. Even if he's not really strong, he can make people think he is. And that's how he got his status later. (Not going to spoil). I think the LA did a better job than the anime in capturing this side of his character.
Jeff Ward is Buggy is top tier casting, nailed that role. He was great in AoS!
He was also great in BToZ, IaK and TTRH

I’ve never seen the anime but apparently this entire season only covers the first 47 episodes or so. So they’re actually keeping it pretty close
dont compare it anime. Because it's anime is not very fast paced. It has covered the first 95 chapters.
It covers the east blue saga
If they make season 2 it should be 1st episode when they enter grandline
And then if they want to finish off alabasta it will be a bit longer of a season becouse alabasta is the first big arc

thats buggys character he was never portrayed as a real threat its quite the opposite he's the funny character that u don't take seriously yet keeps somehow surprising everyone thats why he is loved by the community he is not ur typical crazy sociopath it clown he is a fun goofy good at heart guy who became a clown bcz of his insecurities , he is flawed yet he tries to improve throughout the story and find himself in situations he is not even ready for lol , and u will understand his character the more u watch the show there is more of him ...
Buggy is that way on purpose. On the manga/anime is a joke villain. Never a real threat
The way the characters communicate in this world is through the Psychic Snails, and it is not only them using the snail to communicate.
Buggy is so good! I love that they played him like the Joker. And that he had a literal captive audience. Honestly the most engaging part of the entire season to me is that we are following Koby because it really is the newest material. Garp is also a standout to me. I love the way they did Luffy's backstory with Shanks and the Lord of the Coast. Shanks did have the line “You’re putting your life on the line by pointing that at me" and I'm sad they didn't keep it. I always thought that was the most badass line. And pretty integral to the way Shanks lives his life. Also, Shanks does not have a devil fruit. In the manga, there is no boat. Shanks is swimming and holding Luffy.I love that each episode's title screen is a different Jolly Roger!
This version may truncate and rearrange some things, but the character relationships/charisma and the heartfelt/epic moments are so faithful to the original. I'm definitely happy with it so far. And getting to see you guys react to some of the best moments for the first time is a treat.
the buggy in this live action is giving me goosebumps, i am scared of clowns but I can't help but love the character but scared at same time. i just finished watching the 8 episodes of this live action and I'm addicted.
i never watch the one piece anime because there's 1k episodes and I'm a lazy person, but now that I've seen the live action, it makes me wanna binge watch the whole anime
@@nikkilodeon_ Take your time; "One Piece" is what we call a slow burn. You'll only realize how amazing it is when, one day, you're watching or reading it and come to the realization that everything is connected. Next thing you know, you're theory crafting and analyzing every aspect, every word shown and spoken. They say it's too long, but every person who follows through the journey of "One Piece" will tell you it's too short. The camaraderie, the found family, and the theme of following your dreams make it even more beautiful. Although it may not be for everyone, it has something for everyone.

Buggy literally guaranteed for me that this season was at least a C. I LOVE how he was brought to life in this, he's one of my favorite characters.
The live action buggy is definitely better than the manga and the actor will definitely get more roles after his performance!🎉
That Buggy wasn't too intimidating was the goal, and that the actor walked that line so well just speaks to how wonderful a job he did, you'll understand later.

Buggy was never meant to be scary. Not in the anime, not in the original manga, and certainly not in the live-action. That's just you guys having expectations because of something else you watched.
Buggy in Live Action could Never had gone "He cannot be scary". His powers fits the scary part.

Hi guys, glad you are enjoying the show so far! I will say that something to keep in mind about One Piece is that many of the earlier antagonists are fairly two-dimensional. That doesn't necessarily make them bad, mind you, but it's completely understandable if you don't really gel with them or the style they're going for. Same goes for humor in the show; some of it will land and some of it won't. In my opinion, the live-action show definitely has some problems, but I think the absolute standout is the core crew and their relationships with one another. When the show is focused on them it's truly at it's best. That's just my opinion though!

I was straight shocked with buggy in this. I never expected they would do his powers like this. I thought cause of budget and stuff we'll just get one or two limps off or just occasionally with just him doing fighting with the knives. Instead this was so awesome

Since you didn't watch the anime, I think you need to know that Nami didn't join forces with Luffy & Zoro until after they defeated Buggy. She kinda followed them in her own way, from a distance. But she's here in the live action adaptation because Nami was meant to be the first member to join.

I just binged it all last night and what an enjoyable ride it was, I laughed, I cried, and my heart felt full, and this is coming from someone who watched the anime, I think you guys are going to really enjoy it all the way to the end. To answer one of your questions: Not every antagonist we encounter will have powers, but I can promise you that the longer the series goes on, the more powers we'll see. At the same time, you can't assume that everyone's powers will come from Devil Fruits -- you'll find that Oda-sensei is much more creative than that.

I just love that Jeff Ward( Deke Shaw from Agents of Shield) was Buggy. I Iike him as an actor and thought he did Buggy so well

The thing about one piece is, a lot of things fly over your head but if you sit down and think about certain things you see the parts of the show that you think are "kinda dark" are really freakin dark and the more you think about certain things the realer and darker it gets and I love that it is reflected in the show, take coby's case for example he had his village pillaged, most likely watched a lot of people die, got taken hostage and basically forced to watched more and more people die from all the pillaging and fighting the pirates do all the time, forced to clean up the mess of the blood and organs of the murdered persons off the ship and weapons of murder and thats probably just the tip of the iceberg, when we met him he had no hope of being saved meaning he has been on the ship long enough to lose all hope of getting rescued and when he was rescued he had thoughts like "maybe I should go back", so he had probably been on alvida's ship since he was a child, with all that in mind it makes sense why he constantly scared or cowardly, the kid has been through more than a lot.
Jeff Ward clearly had a blast playing Buggy, I loved it.
And the sea creature! I absolutely didn't think an exact recreation of the one from the anime would look all that great, but shout out to the VFX department, they killed it!

Yes, Buggy is prone. Notice he got splashed as well when Luffy was freed. He didn't separate his body to simply get the map. He crawled over to it. He alluded to how much they're affected. "just a few splashes" But this is late and by now you've all figured it out.

Sea water specifically weakens him wether he touches it or is submerged, he won't be able to swim either. It's a Devil Fruit side effect, it's like you're making a deal with the devil
I think that is the most impressive thing about this series, that it is it's own self contained series, you don't feel like your missing things. That's just so impressive.

you guys may have talked over it last episode -- sea water is a devil fruit user weakness thus the name because it has a devilish price and something about the fact that the origins are a sort of myth. but you will be sent to davy jones locker to meet the devil if you ever return to the water -- something like that -- i may be mis remembering but that is the energy and jist

The show never really explains the seawater thing but you’re right. Seawater is kryptonite for devil fruits users. It’s why they say Luffy can’t swim.
They literally explained that at the beginning of the episode.

I think the feeling of Buggy not being or not feeling like he is threatening is on purpose, and you will probably get it a bit more the further into this season you get, I think it is actually great that you felt like that because that is what that character is, on the surface, you feel like he should be scary, but the reality is very different, hope you guys keep enjoying it
