The anime took me a couple years to catch up on and definitely has some fun elements to it but damn, DBZ ain't got shit on the amount of episodes that feel like filler. This show did a good job of getting the feel of the show down, imo. I enjoyed and hope y'all continue to like it.

In the anime they explained why Kuro doesn't just attack with his speed. It's because he moves so fast that he can't see anything.
That's only his special move.

plus if he used his Out Of The Bag attack he'd destroy the mansion most likely, and that'd, you know, crush him
there are so many subtle references that make the series so enjoyable for longtime fans, Zoro is infamous for his sense of direction and having him getting to Luffy saying he was going to the mansion, when the mansion is literally visible from outside of the well is great

Yeah, it's a great running joke in the series. We were also shown hints of it in an earlier scene (but it might not be obvious to many). When Zoro said "This place is a maze", when it's literally just a long hallway.

The actor, Mackenyu who plays Zoro is the son of famous Japanese actor and martial artist, Sonny Chiba, who you may also remember from Kill Bill vol.1 who gives Uma Thurman the katana she uses. Mackenyu also has a martial arts background which is why he does his own stunts and is very a popular actor in Japan due to his roles in Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, Fullmetal Alchemist films and many more
Sonny Chiba also used to appeared in Japanese comedy show. A show called Gaki No Tsukai. He used to appeared in several episodes

My theory is that the poison put Luffy in a state of only near unconsciousness or maybe in a catatonic state, so he was able to hear what happened around him but couldn't move until his body expelled the poison. And that's why he knew abt the butler.
I thought it was obvious that the poison was never meant to kill, just to weaken the body. I mean, Kaya ate a whole plate of it. So Luffy was just weakened.
We see him looking around as they talk about their plans, his eyes were somewhat opened
What if, Luffy has a bit of resistance from the poison kinda like how some people have resistance from drinking a few extra shots, but too much gets them dizzy.

The snails are a multi-level pun in Japanese - they're called "den den mushi".
"Dendenmushi" is an old name for snail.
"Den" can mean both "electric" and "communication", "mushi" means insect, meaning they're called "electric communication insect".
And, of course, "moshi moshi" is the traditional, non-formal, way of answering the phone.

I really like that side characters in this live action is getting shine. Not just the main protagonist Luffy but other side characters are really having some moments
That is indeed also integral to Oda's world in and of itself. Luffy may be the main character, but almost every character in the OP universe almost has more backstory than half of all the other stories out there xD.
When they played the OG theme song at the end as they sailed away on the Merry, I teared up. It was so surreal.

I think the reason this series has been so much better received than previous live action anime is that it IS live action anime.
The goofiness, the outfits, calling their attacks; all the shounen tropes are being embraced instead of toned down.
I love how Aaron takes a few naps in between scenes and he still knows what's going on.

probably to force people to look it up, and eventually check out the anime. I started one piece anime like the the usopp pirates arc then stopped. Because of the live action, i started the anime again and now at ep 50
There was an old fan theory/ speculation about Kuina's death. Where they claimed that she killed herself bc "falling down the stairs" was code for taking your own life. I'm pretty sure it's debunked by now but I bought into that for the longest time when I was a kid.
Anyway, I think it was just used to show how death can sneak up on you without warning and its better to actively chase after your dreams before some random accident or illness puts you in the ground.

The grandpa revelation actually takes place 300 episodes later in the anime
Luffy's power is Rubber not stretchiness, as rubber is less lame than just stretchiness. Mr. Fantasitic is stretchy but Luffy is rubber. Rubber bounce back, to stretch you need to put strength into it and you can fling. for example if you have big chunk of rubber and big chunk of stretchy goo(the thing kids play) and hit it with a hammer, rubber stays the same but stretchy goo flatened

It’s always been my favorite thing how luffy embodies the trope of shonen protags always bouncing back, he’s literally rubber
This is what confuses me though, as in episode 1 for example, Alvida hits him on the head with her bat, and his skull just bends to absorb the impact and he doesn't seem injured at all. But he also gets hit other times and it seems to hurt him just like it would anyway else? So is it a conscious decision to make your body rubber? I thought he was in a constant state of it 🤔
They call them Transponder Snails and yes there are different types. In the anime the snails emote the emulation of the person you are on the phone with and they take on their details. For instance if luffy called usopp the snail would have on goggles randomly or if he called nami it would have her hair style it’s great
In the anime/manga, Garp was revealed to be Luffy’s grandpa in the later arc. It’s interesting that Oda has made this big reveal early in the story. Seeing your reaction was how all of us reacted when we found out Garp is Luffy’s grandpops. A crazy twist for sure. Oda is the goat.
Apparently Oda was against the garp stuff. I enjoyed it personally. Don’t feel it takes much from the story and liked the new take.
I swear Kuro in my opinion, is the best casted character in this show. They made him SCARY in this episode and I loved it
in the manga Kuro has a big crew, but this adaptation with only 3 ppl is way WAY better in almost every aspect

I love how the live action is making people love kuro, who is a very underrated villain in the anime (personally he's in my top 5 faves)
his little monologue t luffy hints at his motive, where he wants Kaya's riches to be able to escape the pirate life and live in comfort.
Yeah, Zoros flashback story got a little too abbreviated. She slipped on some stairs when it was wet. “But that’s stupid “you might say. And yes. The answer is yes. And that’s why Zorro does not live any day not following his dream. He has a very thorough understanding that life can be fleeting. Also, there was a body and he screamed at it for a while before he got to that calm place.
About Kuro not being able to attack fast only move fast, that's kinda true, since in the anime they say that when he does that thing, he can't see anything, which is why he ended up killing a lot of his crew mates as well.

This was a big issue in the manga/anime as well, they killed Kuina offscreen with no explanation. Many theories about it, but no actual explenation.

I love the mix of genres/ aesthetics this show effortlessly blends together, pirates, circuses and now a gothic setting! I can't wait to see where they go with the next few episodes.

So Kuina died by slipping and falling down the stairs, I believe onto her own sword because she was cleaning it or sharpening it. Its a very big moment for Zoro and the community in our infinite bounds of dark humor refer to her now as Down D. Stairs. Its mean and cruel but its out of love😂😂😂
She just slipped and fell while going to get her whetstone, she didn't die on her own sword. Probably broke her neck.
"She fell down the stairs" is a saying in Japan: it means "I'd better not tell you how she died".

This adaptation is a miracle. It's doing a better job at adapting a manga/anime that has been said to be notoriously impossible to adapt in live action than recent MCU movies have been adapting the Marvel comics, which in itself is quite incredible.

You guys would LOOOVE the anime it’s so good I watched the entire for the first time back in 2018 right before the current arc started. I stopped half way to get somebody else hooked. We both watched it and caught up together. Literally the most amazing story ever. The amount of tears I have shed over this story could flood a river
It's easy to give insane durability to manga/anime characters and I thought live action can't achieve it but this is enough whimsical in it's action (and lack of action since one combat can take VOLUMES in the manga) that I just buy it! The show has a gummy bear dude, everything is possible.
Garp’s (the grandpa) actor is Scottish (probably chosen for his resemblance) but if you want an in universe explanation, Grandma could be Latino

You're so right! The story follows every single Straw Hat Crew's member but Luffy always remains the center piece, having the best balance of ensemble-protagonist. So good!
Also, I agree with Luffy being depicted sometimes so so silly, you could even think he is 'stupid'. Yet we all know he's not because he is the one who fools around the most, but when it is time to draw the line...you better be ready. And that's awesome ❤

As per anime Kuina, Zoro friend died falling down the stairs. We do see her funeral but never her body
she is dead. They just changed it in the live-action because the reason behind her death was very weird.
I mean falling off the stairs is common but not much as a way to die from it so I guessed why they changed it

One of my favourite things about the adaption is how they stay with Koby so much in the beginning. In the anime (I'm assuming also manga) you don't see Koby again for quite some time after he leaves Luffy to join the Marines. It's always a joy to me when he shows up in the anime so to see them stay with him and develop it more in the live action makes me really happy.

it just caught me off guard how luffy told koby he better not try to stop him with such a dramatic intense flair. him and what army exactly? all of koby's back up was knocked out. and the poor kid looks like he's about to cry. and koby would not lay a hand on luffy unless it was to run away with him 💞
If you guys or anyone were still confused about Kuina and her death. I believe in the manga/anime it is classified as just an accident with her falling down a flight of stairs but there are people in the One Piece community that believe that her death wasn't an accident and could've possibly been a suicide and some think even murder but it hasn't really been clarified as of yet in both the manga and anime. Definitely curious to see if this iteration will handle that information or if the answer is simply she did pass away like they say she did.

I know it still doesn't make it perfect, but in all combat fighting sports the back of the head is an illegal area, and the reason is because it doesn't take much force to knockout or concuss someone if they are hit in the back of the head. Fighters just go limp when they are struck there after taking a 25 mins beating, its crazy but its true lol

A lot of people miss the significance of Kurina’s death, in the anime they specifically reference that she fell from some steps while trying to reach a whetstone to sharpen her katana. Their Sensei, who is also her father is puzzled why she would need to be sharpening her katana, because as both this show and the anime show that they use boken in their training. So her pact with Zoro as well as their secret training inadvertently led to her death, adding further impetus for him to honour her.
