For the year 2020, the pre-pandemic era and as an long-awaited movie adaptation of a classic video-game franchise; this was awesome. One of the producers of The Fast Saga, Neal Moritz is lead producer of this franchise. For the storyline they mix up elements from some of the franchise such as the original game (1991), the first Sonic Adventure game (1998) and the anime series Sonic X (early 2000s). Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic is great. Jim Carrey as Robotnik is totally perfect and harkens to his 1990s vibes. James Marsden as Mike the Sheriff was cool too. I saw this at AMC in the Dolby Cinema format. It was more than just a video-game movie. It had heart and humor, also the idea that for Sonic to be the hero he is, he needs to be encouraged by those close to him. That no one is ever really alone in the world. Those action sequences of Sonic doing what he does best are amazing and the nods to the games are perfect. This became the no.1 film adaptation of a video-game in U.S. release and broke the opening-weekend box offce record held by Pokémon:Detective Pikachu (2019). Your gonna like The 2022 sequel and the Knuckles original series.

The language Robotnik speaks is Japanese, a reference to the fact that Sonic is a Japanese franchise (despite Sega being an American company). Also yes, the breakers were an Easter egg. "Badniks" are the name of Robotnik's robots. Also, they used a life sized statue of Sonic to stand in for the real Sonic whenever the characters or environment needed to interact with Sonic.

I think they missed (at least in the edited version), that in the movie when Sonic is falling and grabs the ring with a quill, it makes the 'pick up a ring' sound from the game.
One of the generals sitting at the table actually voiced Eggman in Sonic Underground And in the behind the scenes they showed Concept art that shows Chris Evans when he was one of the options to play as Tom

When she mentioned how she liked how Sonic looked like he did in the game, I wonder if she knew what they were going to have him look like at first. I went to see this movie just out of respect for the film crew going back and changing it. Made all the difference. I don't know why anyone would try and do what they were going to in the first place, but respect for them listening to the fans.
Ahh, Genesis was the first console I remember getting. Atari and Nintendo were already there because I had an older brother, but I can vividly remember getting my Sega on Christmas morning. Played the hell out of some Sonic 2 and 3 and Knuckles.

This is truly one of the best, if not the best, movies based on a video game, ever. It honors the game, with lots of easter eggs, and it is just a great movie!
To answer Andrews question, the term Badniks is indeed an Easter Egg, it's the group name for what Robotnik's animal robots from the Sonic games are called. Some of the other Easter Eggs in the movie are the name of the town, Green Hills, is a reference to the first levels of the Sonic games called Green Hill Zone. Tails in the credits scene is voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessy, the lady that voices him in the games. Sonic talking about chili dogs is an Easter Egg in itself, as Sonic's favorite food is often said to be chili dogs. the "Blue Devil" drawing that the guy has in the movie is a reference to a Sonic "meme" where Sonic is poorly drawn like that and referred to as Sanic. the editors seemed to have picked up on it, but Sonic not liking the Mushroom World is very likely a reference to his rivalry with Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom from back in the day. Glad to hear you guys loved the movie, I grew up with Nintendo, but I also played a lot of Sega and Sonic cause my buddies had Sega, so Sonic is just as much of my childhood as Mario and the other Nintendo characters are, so I loved this movie as well. You guys should absolutely watch the sequel, it has a lot of Sonic references in that as well and is just as amazing. They are also releasing a 3rd movie in December I believe, and they just recently started airing a Knuckles show that takes place in the same Universe as these movies. Video game movies have definitely been having a Renaissance recently, and this movie has been a big part in that.
Just wanted to point out that 'Dr. Eggman' is Robotnik's second official name. It's actually his original name from the Japanese version of the games, and it was later made canon in the English version, as Sonic's nickname for Robotnik, because his body is egg-shaped. In most modern games, he is usually called Eggman instead of Robotnik.
This was so much fun to watch! JIM CARREY FOR LYF ❤. I love how supportive yall are! I’m not a gamer so I wasn’t sure about all the Easter eggs but it’s always okay because Encyclopedia is always there to lay it down. 😂❤

Also in the military council scene four actors were in Stargate SG-1 series... whish was also shot in Canada. :))
Everyone remembers how sonic looked before the movie released 😅 good job they fixed 😂😂
yes, he looked terrible in that trailer!
WOOP WOOP
I really hope to see you guys watch the Knuckles series after the sequel
The skiing is a reference to the show and games btw
Angels in the Outfield was a major childhood movie for me… Realizing Neal McDonough was in it hit me like a bolt of lightning…. Jose can you seeee!
the time when robotnik sees sonic for the first time is super funny 😄😅😂🤣
Any way we could get a long "'my fair lady" narrative with Terra's intros?
Ahh, Genesis was the first console I remember getting. Atari and Nintendo were already there because I had an older brother, but I can vividly remember getting my Sega on Christmas morning. Played the hell out of some Sonic 2 and 3 and Knuckles.
"Omochoróiii" kinda like omoshiroi like interesting in japanese?.Badass movie,i still didn´t saw the second one and there´s a third one these days haha,i need to see it now.Great reaction, love these videos, kinda seems like we´re looking at the movies with anybody.
This is truly one of the best, if not the best, movies based on a video game, ever. It honors the game, with lots of easter eggs, and it is just a great movie!
I know Greg and John already watched it, but I want Tara and Andrew to watch Sonic 2(and maybe the Knuckles show)
To answer Andrews question, the term Badniks is indeed an Easter Egg, it's the group name for what Robotnik's animal robots from the Sonic games are called.
Watch him mix up the reference at 27:31 🤣 “Pop quiz, Hotshot” “Popshot, Hot Quiz”
Putting sanic meme in the movie is a goated move
This was so much fun to watch! JIM CARREY FOR LYF ❤. I love how supportive yall are! I’m not a gamer so I wasn’t sure about all the Easter eggs but it’s always okay because Encyclopedia is always there to lay it down. 😂❤
30:45. That's the same statement like in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 when Fox fell asleep in the fire 😊❤
He's gonna love the third one
Indeed
Can’t wait for you guys to see the sequel. Won’t give anything away.
Keanu Reeves is the ONLY person in existence who could have voiced Shadow!
Robotnik's song choice was Where Evil Grows by the Poppy Family from 1971
