- Welcome to our first-time reaction to the One Piece live action adaptation that just released on Netflix!
Today we watch the second episode of the live action adaptation of One Piece and oh boy...we are hooked! Buggy the clown was amazing. He was eerie and creepy while still being able to be funny at times! Jeff Ward did an incredible job with his performance.
Our non crew friends Monkey D. Luffy played by Iñaki Godoy, Nami played by Emily Rudd & the formidable Roronoa Zoro played by Mackenyu find themselves in deep trouble as soon as they are in possession of the map that will guide them to the Gold Roger treasure One Piece.
Koby (played by Morgan Davies) on the other hand is in a tough spot between following his dreams or betraying his new found friend Luffy.
We loved how this second episode showed us more of Luffy's past and we're not gonna lie we got a bit emotional towards the end when we understood why the hat means so much to him. Him looking up to Shanks and promising to be the greatest pirate ever added a brand new layer to what was an already engaging story!
We're all in for this pirate adventure that is ahead of us! So join us as we set our sails and head into episode 1x2 of this highly-anticipated adaptation of one of the greatest anime and manga series ever created.

'Koby says something, but his body says another.' YES! Finally someone pointed this out!! The actor did a wonderful job on portraying Koby's internal conflicts!!
Absolutely. As someone with crippling anxiety, I found myself relating to Koby more often than not. The actor did such an excellent job at portraying his concerns with the body language

The actor added an immense amount of depth to the character. The internal turmoil made us care for him. You can tell he’s a good kid that only wants to make the world a better place. And you can see how little by little these disagreements take a toll on him. Great writing and superb acting!
Iñaki Godoy is absolutely insane. Until I saw this show, I legitimately thought that embodying Luffy was physically impossible for ANY actor to pull off. But he just GETS it. The brainless, empty-headed smile. The unshakable faith in himself and his crew. And his implacable optimism.
But he also does the angry, serious resolve side of Luffy too
They did a really good job bringing these devil fruits' power to life.
Honestly the quality in this production is insane! It feels like we are watching a movie. They went all in with this and it shows!

Seriously, the "Hey kid ! Wanna get tall fast ?" is one of the most terrifying clown moment we got in any fictional media.
The camera zoom creating a disturbed perspective shot, Jeff Ward's (Buggy's actor) expressions with this scary smile and just the meaning of this line...I mean he's literally menacing the kid to quarter it. Truly a great performance.
Such a great delivery! Also the camera work in this episode was phenomenal. The use of hand held and camera zooms as you mentioned added a layer of discomfort and disorientation that really just elevated the entirety of the episode!
One of my favorite small moments of the series, both live action and anime, is when Nami offers to fix his hat. After all, if there’s one thing Nami understands the value of its treasure.
That was so nice of her. It made us a bit emotional understanding why that hat means so much to Luffy. I’m sure they’ll expand on the reasons down the line but already the emotional punchline hit! It’s played off as a joke at first but by the end of this episode you realize there’s so much more 👏

Consuming the devil fruit will make the user unable to swim in still waters (like the sea, river, etc) but they won't be affected by rain or moving waters unless half of their body is immersed. If a devil fruit user dies, their devil fruit will reappear somewhere in the world and can be consumed by another user.
Also one piece world are insanely large...like lots of lore and characters...humans in this world have their own skills and abilities besides devil fruit eaters/users...

So its a mystery on itself if shanks has powers to drive off such a seabeast or if he just was such mega badass that it fled when it looked into his eyes. BOTH is possible in the world of onepiece!
@@OfficialMediaKnights some context for what shanks did while trying not to spoil, he doesn't have a devil fruit, but some characters in one piece can force their willpower on others to knock them unconscious , but it only works if their will is stronger than the person they're attacking.

@@danielfrey2407 If you’ve seen the anime, it shows how Shanks and others like him are able to make a beast leave. I’m not going to say how; because if anyone doesn’t know, it is part of the journey of the anime.
The snail is called Den Den Mushi. In Japanese, Den means electric or electricity, Mushi means bug (in this case it means the snail). So Den Den Mush is the electronic device from the bug (snail).
also telephone in Japanese is "denwa"
And in the translation, it's transponder snail, although I heard the team call it 'snail phone' in a tweet or TH-cam video.

He brings a slightly different energy than in the manga/anime, but it works very well, it's faithful while being a unique take, and the actor did a fantastic job. Easily one of my favorites! The casting for this show is PHENOMENAL!
Buggy's cast is AMAZING! He made the character creepy yet comedic at times! They have altered the story a bit to fit live action. Luffy in the anime/manga is WAY more hyper active xD But they bought mine and millions of people's anime to life without deviating much from the source. Loved your reaction! Waiting to see all the other episodes too! And maybe one piece reaction series 😂 You know... a mere 1000+ episode anime 😂 Glad you enjoy it too!
We loved this episode! Jeff Ward deserves all the recognition after that performance. Buggy was such an intense character. He could've easily come across as cheesy but he absolutely did NOT. Creepy, eerie and funny what an amazing character! Also sure yeah...just a few episodes that came out a few years ago 😂

The castings in this show are amazingggg, everyone killed their roles especially a few characters that you haven’t seen yet, they truly brought these characters to life

The CGI in this show is fantastic. Luffy's backstory and the imprisonment of the townspeople is just a glimpse of how dark this show can get. Love the action and love you guys reaction
Buggy is ABSURD in the live action! Seriously, as someone from the anime, i think he was done SO good!
Make sure you have tissues handy for the rest of the series. You might regret not having them.

not only does the sea water take the Devil Fruit power away but it also paralyzes the person once completely submerged . that's why he said that he can't swim in the 1st episode.
One Piece, no matter the medium (anime/LA/manga) always hits you in the feels when you least expect it. If the quality stays this high for future seasons, I'm excited to see how hard they continue to hit. I also love that new fans are discovering that One Piece is more than a "fun pirate cartoon" you know? There's amazing depth and development.
Your appreciation for Luffy's character as well as the other members of the crew is such a pleasure to watch. It really is a treat to see people learn to love characters that you've known for a long time.

Buggy really steals every scene he is in. Jeff Ward did a brilliant job
I love it how they established the characters within 2 hours like other shows could not in 10 or more years.
They struck gold with Buggy cast. This is one of the few places where the changes made it better. Buggy is more comedic in anime but far darker here which I loved. They ruined several things by modifying but not this one. Another one major improvement they did by change is with one of the main characters. He comes last in this season. They reduced extra flirty/pervy nature which elevated this great character instead of the usual creep meme. U will see if u ever consider watching anime
We are so happy to see that Jeff Ward is getting all the love for this! Because he definitely deserves it. He was spectacular as Buggy. Funny, creepy and menacing all at the same time. Can't wait to meet even more awesome characters 😀
I disagree Sanji from the Anime is much better than the Live Action..

Buggy is creepy but definitely one the best performances of the show.

The emotional scenes not only in the live action but also the anime do really well with connecting you with the characters 😊
The beast that ate Shank’s arm is a Sea King and a pretty small one at that. Sea Kings in the Grand Line are at least 10 times that size
As a long-time Buggy fan, I loved what they did with him and Jeff Ward was the PERFECT casting choice. I can't wait for the hair reveal 😉

To answer questions about DFs
You eat one you get one unique power set ie Rubber body. If you eat a second you die and all water will drain your energy not just your powers. Nobody will have the same power as you but some powers do overlap smoke fruit and soot fruit are very similar.
Sea water is a Devil Fruit eaters kryptonite. A splash weakens and emersion paralyzes them.
The sanils are called transponder snails

there is only 2 fruit users in live adaptation(and in anime at same point). but fruits not only source of power. shanks powers will start to explain pretty late - near 500 episode. for now it is just a tease of man who can scare a sea king just by his look
not all strong characters eat devil fruit, devil fruit in one piece is classified into 3 groups, including:
paramecia: this devil fruit can offer various strange abilities to anyone who eats it
Logia: this logia group can offer to gives various powers to be able to control natural elements to anyone who eats them
Zoan: this group of zoan gives its users the ability to change form and the ability to become animals or animal hybrid creatures which have abilities which of course vary and adapt to the form of change in the future
