In a time when the mark has become more of a luxury symbol then off-road capable; it’s good to see someone still gets it.
I have no doubt that this new defender has got DNA from previous defenders ,world class ,BEST 4x4xFar 👍
it looks vaguely like the old Defender, but thats as far as it goes. far too many electronic gizmos and gadgets that you dont need (making it very expensive) for it to be a proper Defender. they also ruined it by not offering a manual transmission. (again reducing complexity)
I saw one specked up, it’s so nice on the road when it’s clean.
I love the history of Defender. I have a model 1:18 of old Defender 90.

Not even. Probably as long as the warranty only, and then the thing will fall apart right before your eyes. That's without talking about the electrical gremlins that will pop up randomly. I speak as a former Land Rover owner.
I owned a Range Rover sport and never took it off road one time. Had all rotors fail 2x until they used a different manufacturer, suspension had to be replaced $7,000, was on a trip 5 hours from home and fuel pump failed and had to drive 40 mph home, multiple electrical problems, nav failed after warranty expired and it cost $3800 for new one, radiator leaked as well.

Don't doubt its off-road abilities given it is based on Disco 4.
Land Rovers always are known for their off-road ability no doubt, I have the "original" Defender and love it.
This car does not resemble the Defender, they are marketing this towards the LR Discovery 4 owners that don't like the look of the Disco 5, don't blame them.
How reliable and dependable will be in the harsh Australian outback, where I live now, with so much technology built into it. I love technology but water, microscopic red Australian dust and humidity are the technology's worst enemy.
This will be for mums picking up kids from school (when corona is sorted)!

It’s not ready to be better than the G-Wagon, it is. All landrovers are better than any other off-road car and are second to none in the luxury sense so saying that it was not better than the G-Wagon is a bit idiotic

The Ineos Grenadier is looking more and more appealing. I do not personally like the look of the new Defender, inside or out. JLR’s 2.0T I-4 sucks, and their new 3.0T I-6 MHEV feels extremely weak compared to BMW or Mercedes’ inline-6 engines. In the US they want $80K+ for a well equipped Defender 110. That’s insane. I thought it would have topped out at $60-$65K. I thought Defender would be the LESS expensive Land Rover model, cheaper than Discovery or Range Rover Models, but it’s not. It’s as expensive or more when similarly equipped.
I'd love one, but I tend to buy and hold to get the value out of the vehicle. Can I trust this vehicle to not drain me to keep it running?

Off-road ability alone, does not make it a Defender. Off-road ability is a given. That's not the test. If a journalist missed that, then he's completely clueless of what a Defender really is.
My Disco 4 can do everything this vehicle can do, with equal comfort. Doesn't make it a Defender!
This is not an update of the Defender, but a remodel of the Discovery 4.
There is no doubt that this guy gets paid to say nice things about this defender which is not near the as the predecessor. This video should have lasted 4 minutes at the most. No wonder people are still paying top prices for old defenders and have them renovated. This new defender is a defender by NAME only. It is nice, in the same range as the chev equinox. But 25,000 more expensive. I still drive a Discovery 4 HSE Lux.
... what to say ... I LOVE the new Defender, but those sudden load transfers on obstacles, it seems to me that they cannot transmit in real time the changing of the ground ... the rigid bridges, in my opinion, give less the feeling of falling into the void 😱 I have a Gladiator, which I almost always use on asphalt, so I would not be the ideal buyer of the Defender, which I love very much, anyway.👍💪🤩

because top spec defenders arent a huge amout away from that price. and its also the most capable car (according to Land Rover) off road vehicle from the factory that Land Rover make
Sure, the 95% of the prospect buyer , signe a contrac only because its named Defender, and is a refference name, and they totally ignore the capability of this specific veicle.
But for the semplicity of resource, I would buy one for fun😋

These two models can only fight on pavement. It's very expensive to take them off-road. G-wagons and new LRDs are the best for press release, movies and advertising.

You can't get a standard pallet in the back unlike the Disco 4, it's nice but also far to many electrics to go wrong and leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere, ive got 2 disco 2 td5's and they are bad enough for sensors.

you really have to squint your eyes really hard to see the resemblance of the old Defender. The silhouettes is totally not the same car. Then they try to fix it with contrasting paint job but it is just trying to do a patch work on a bad design. It is not like Mini where the foundation design is beautiful and adding the contrasting paint just makes it pop even more.
They have made a nice road car that can go offroad. Obviously getting paid to say nice things or he just doesn't have a clue.

Mitsubishi killed Toyota 5 years ago and it's still killing Toyota in 2020 with Utes/trucks like the Triton, the Hilux is dead . The new defender just killed Mitsubishi. In Australia, no one drives a new Toyota anymore.

Landrover and reliability don’t go together
landrover has lost the plot - this is not a safe vehicle- not a working tool either , an owner can not repair or do a get home fix to this vehicle when in the middle of nowhere. old landrover's almost allways can be made to get you home. All computers play up daily. the electronics in this vehicle will . I hate to think how many drivers will be injured or killed by these failures . just view the amount of electronic faliures off road with disco 3 & 4. I owned 2 classic range rovers -few problems, loved them both. Sorry landrover but you have just lost yet another real world customer.

2.0L 4 cylinder turbo Diesel Engine means talking about durability and reliability. A Diesel Engine to last need to be at least 2.4L that is why in Toyota you won't find 4 cylinder diesel engine lower then 2400 cubic centimeters.
That's bull ,look at the power from the 2l much more impressive than any Toyota...
@@scottblythe6050 I am ranking about reliability not about looks. This Land Rover 2.0L turbo diesel will not last more then 90000 kms or 56000 miles at the most. Anybody buying this Defender should buy the V6 petrol engine if durability is required!
