“ scheduled worry time” kind of like Scarlett O’Hara’s from “Gone with the Wind” film approach - “ I am not going to worry about it today. I will worry about it tomorrow. “
Hi Julia, my name is Gary and I have been following you for yrs.. you are truly amazing.. I have great moments but I also have worrying moments with my job.. this one is a really good, thks!!
Hi Julia! Senior Shifter Chris here! Thanks for the follow up TH-cam video on worrying. How To Stop Stressing, Obsessing & Worrying: 4 Ways that Work I like the idea of scheduling time for worrying. To me, that also seems like the right time to also take these other steps during this schedule time. I can sit down ask myself what I am worrying about and write those thoughts down, then move on to step 2 and ask myself those questions to make a plan about what I would do if “such and such” happened. Then give myself that compassion as I wrap up my schedule worrying time. I may need to try to implement this some time. Here are my notes: Recap: *Our brain makes up good reasons why we worry. It thinks it serves a purpose for survival. 4 Ways That Help Stop Worrying: 1. First take a step back, breath and ask yourself, "What am I really worried about and is this a likely threat or this my brain being overzealous? " Is it a real threat or just a habitual thought?" Is it a real threat or just a habitual thought?" Use mindfulness if is just a habitual thought. 2. To actually answer the question: "What if?" *"What will I do?" *"How will I handle it? " *"What are my options?" *"How will I get through it?" *As soon as we try to answer the question, worry loses its power. *Take a pen/pencil and paper and actually write down what is the thing I am worried about and what I will do if it happens. What are my options? What is my plan? 3. To schedule time to worry. Tell our brain not to worry about something in a moment we don't want to and give it time and space to do so later in a scheduled time. Giving that permission and space to worry at another time can help clear our heads and help us focus on the present. 15 min or so once a day. Set an alarm. 4. "Get Curious." *What is really going on here? *What is this really about? *What is the vulnerable spot or insecurities? *Offer yourself compassion while asking these questions. "I know this feels scary…" "I know this feels vulnerable.' or "It is understandable that I am worrying about this…etc.…" "I am here for you. I care about you. I support you. I will figure this out. We have been through hard things before." "We can take it one step at a time like we have before."
I have been this way my whole life, obsessed with safety and preparing myself for the worst. I didn’t walk until I was two, not because I couldn’t but because I was so cautious. My dad worked with me every day on it after he got home! 😭 It does affect you and those around you greatly. My kids are adults and I am always bracing for them to be in a car wreck. My heart races every time my kids call or text. BUT, today is my very first EMDR session to work toward getting this under control. Talk therapy helps but it was time to level up. Great timing, thanks for this!
All four pieces of advice are valuable! The two techniques I constantly use in combination are: Taking a step back and consciously asking yourself! Be curious! Thanks for this awesome video Julia
This is the first time I've heard of a 'what if' exercise such as this. And this exercise would be best to engage in during a scheduled worry time! Not just randomly throughout the day. That might drive you nuts.
Hi Julia, thanks for the awesome video. I like the idea of scheduling a worry period. We can worry as hard as we want. We can study and evaluate whatever we are worried about. Have a regular time to do our worring, just like study hall in high school. Keep up the great work work!
I don't have your level of education. So I'm going to stop trying to act like I understand. But I do like you a lot and your content is amazing and so are you.
This month I went through hell. My anxeity and panic reach a breaking point. This summer, starting in May, ive had one bad thing happen after another. Got laid off, 17 year old pet passed away, and my mother having cancer for the fourth time. I had a PTSD panic attack episode that lasted two days and kept me up for 48 hours. I got on meds and the meds I was given gave me horrible side effects that put me into another episode where I didn't sleep for 72 hours. I had to be take to the ER. I'm healthy as can be, but my brain was stuck in fight or flight and wouldn't let me sleep. They gave me drugs and I finally slept 12 hours. I'm now really focusing on grounding myself, letting go of control, countering the catastrophizing and intrusive thoughts. Im also getting off these meds with my doctor. Never saying What If every again...because that spiral is what led to this...
I might suggest gratitude: find every evening 3-5 things you are grateful for (even if "only" the roof over your head, the grunning water in the tap, the washing machine, the car, bike, the electricity, the stars, the sun, the earth...) it will ground you better. You might add asome music right before the worrying time, preferebly use "I am so worried about it" from Monthy Python", it should help to take the drama away from the worry 🤞😅 Taking yourself up and stopping from worrying each and every time and obliged yourself to think about something positive untill worrying time is in... 🤗💖❣️
Are you sure you aren't a mind reader, Julia? 😁😅 But seriously, this is totally me. I obsess, worry and over worry. I feel it comes from my late mother. She was the type of parent who always taught me to think ahead, plan things out, be prepared. But for me personally, I have found doing that starts me worrying, obsessing and then end up not accomplishing anything.
I sometimes worry about my anxiety peaking. Going outside can sometimes feel daunting. However, I remind myself that I have been to different places and I am okay. I would like to try the first one, "is this a real threat or just an overactive brain? If it is just an overactive brain, how do I want to calm myself?"
I've been around abusive people my whole life until I started limited and no contact. My son has MS and its getting severe. I think thats a reason to worry but I try not to.
I HEARD TO STOP WORRYING I CAN DO A BODY SCAN. DOES THAT MEAN WHEN I GET ANXIOUS I SHOULD GO TO THE HOSPITAL AND HAVE AN MRI DONE? I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THAT TREATMENT....
I am worrying about everything my past when I was getting bullied and picked on many years ago stressing out don’t want I’m getting gray hair need help
I worry about not being able to sleep, i'd be awake 24 hours, i just keep worrying that i will never feel sleepy enough to just dose off and sleep well, what if i never sleep and then go crazy ?? What if i get a heart attack or a stroke ??, I put my head down on the pillow and i just get this jolt of energy despite all the exhaustion.. im just really desperate it makes want to die, im always asking god to take my life, when ever i put my head down the movie starts and my brain just goes full throttle it scares me and im just constantly living on the edge and there is nothing for me to hide behind i feel helpless..then with all this sleeplessness i try to enjoy some music or video games im so sleepless i feel numb, my back just aches and i get this burning sensation..God please have mercy on my soul!!! Just please take my life or make it better!! Just cant enjoy anything, everything is dark and scary..
If anyone is struggling as i do sometimes use the R.I.S.E technique- •R- RECOGNISE-What’s the feeling,Tension in your body, racing mind,Palpatations, sleep deprivation,Heavy eyes,Headache etc..Acknowledge the Discomfort in whatever form. •I-INTERNALISE-Ask yourself-“ what am I thinking or believing that is making me feel this way,, •S-SURRENDER Breath, accept ,allow don’t deny, sit with it until you have accepted it,and you will create a space as you observe the thoughts E.ELEVATE-elevate your mind as you have now mostly dealt with it and you can have a encouraging mantra- •What’s possible for me is not dependent on my circumstances or past •It’s not personal or permanent •i can bounce back from adversity and reinvent my life •I will live in a beautuful state,Rest and appreciate the simple & sublime etc •Peace will come to me when it comes from me.. Good luck and hope you find peace🕊

Are you sure you aren't a mind reader, Julia? 😁😅

I struggle with repeated obsessive thought patterns. This helps.
"A real threat or just a habitual thought"?
All of them. 😊
I've been like this my whole life but in the Lasted 6 months it's be horrible.
I sometimes worry about my anxiety peaking. Going outside can sometimes feel daunting. However, I remind myself that I have been to different places and I am okay. I would like to try the first one, "is this a real threat or just an overactive brain? If it is just an overactive brain, how do I want to calm myself?"
Where was this when I needed it a year ago?
I will definitely be scheduling worry time and writing the worries down.😂
When I'm at work so much is put on me, constantly have horrible thoughts what should I do while I'm at work?
I am lucky to see your video

I HEARD TO STOP WORRYING I CAN DO A BODY SCAN. DOES THAT MEAN WHEN I GET ANXIOUS I SHOULD GO TO THE HOSPITAL AND HAVE AN MRI DONE? I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THAT TREATMENT....
No, it's not a medical treatment at all! A body scan is a meditation exercise. There's lots of them on Spotify and probably also TH-cam. Good luck!
Answering the what if

Hello im U.S. President, Ray
It's generally harder for a man to listen to women talk. Maybe I'm "ADHD".
Can i have your mail pl.
I think I'm just not paying attention
If anyone is struggling as i do sometimes use the R.I.S.E technique-
•R- RECOGNISE-What’s the feeling,Tension in your body,racing mind,Palpatations,sleep deprivation,Heavy eyes,Headache etc..Acknowledge the Discomfort in whatever form.
•I-INTERNALISE-Ask yourself-“ what am I thinking or believing that is making me feel this way,,
•S-SURRENDER Breath, accept ,allow don’t deny, sit with it until you have accepted it,and you will create a space as you observe the thoughts
E.ELEVATE-elevate your mind as you have now mostly dealt with it and you can have a encouraging mantra-
•What’s possible for me is not dependent on my circumstances or past
•It’s not personal or permanent
•i can bounce back from adversity and reinvent my life
•I will live in a beautuful state,Rest and appreciate the simple & sublime
etc
•Peace will come to me when it comes from me..
Good luck and hope you find peace🕊
