      Some people like tutorials to race. I prefer they stop to breath. The few extra seconds save me from lots of pauses and rewinds. 😛 But the script is great and I like the humorous and clear segues that he has used before. It really clarifies things to have those sections emphasized.

    note: at 07:30 when you want to draw straight line you must uncheck 3 things "Occlude", “backface culling", and “normal falloff” Under the “Falloff” panel. if you not uncheck normal fall off it will won’t paint around the edges of the mesh where the angle is perpendicular to the view.

    • @moltenbolt
      @moltenbolt  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      True! You can alternatively set the falloff angle to 90°. The default in Blender is 80° for some reason, and at some point I must have saved 90 as the default. 90° will also draw all the way around

      That the problem often the person making the video as some option they never mention because they don't use the default start up file which can make it hard or impossible to figure out where it went wrong if you have little to no experience in that specific part of blender. So thank you very much.

    OMG! I've been texturing in blender for years and I've always been fighting with the shader editor to get a good texture layering, It's very time consuming and slow to understand at first, although with infinite customization. This addon is a MUST if you spend time texturing in blender. Great for stylized textures, the setup process is very intuitive like in substance or photoshop, and you can always edit the material in the shader editor for experimentation. It also autosaves the textures every time you save the blender file!!?? Insane addon.

    • @moltenbolt
      @moltenbolt  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! Yeah I still use Bpainter for the brush presets and interface tbh. If you have both Bpainter and Ucupaint they actually play really well together. I didnt show Bpainter in the tut because not everyone has it.
      I'll talk to ucupumar and see what it would take to add a color picker hotkey 😉

    • @moltenbolt
      @moltenbolt  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Update: There is also apparently a brush management addon called "apaint" by @arsa that I was just recommended for use alongside ucupaint. Def going to check it out.
      You can also set your own hotkey for the color picker by setting a hotkey for the paint.sample_color command. Turning on 'sample merged' will pick the rendered color, leaving it unchecked will sample the actual pixel color.

    One thing I like about Ucupaint is that because it doesn't include 8 million smart masks like SP it is a lot easier to get a clean result. I often find myself getting carried away adding so much grunge and dust with smart materials that really I could've just done by hand and it would've looked better without all the noise.

    I would love to hear your thought.
    1) Are the Grease pencil and this Texture paint invading adversaries? Or are they different realms?
    2) I'm considering compatibility with Unreal. Is this good for that?
    3) Is it possible to move each layer by applying at least one of the methods such as a modifier, Armature, or drivers?

    • @moltenbolt
      @moltenbolt  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey! I'll do my best to answer:
      1) I would say different realms, although you could add an outline to your model using a grease pencil object and the lineart modifier.
      2) The end result is compatible with any engine, provided you export your textures correctly. All Ucupaint does is simplify the process of using and editing layers. It has PBR and NPR workflows, each of which will work.
      3) As far as I know, the best you can do is keyframe layers on and off, but you'd be better off asking Ucupumar (the addon's creator) about that kind of thing. He's super helpful and his discord is here: discord.gg/H6D65FtD
      Hope that helps!

    Huge thanks man this tutorial is incredible! Just one small thing I wanted to mention. For some reason it affects me but not you in the video. But I have to do another step to allow the line to paint though the mesh. In brush settings under Falloff there is a check box called "normal falloff" for me its checked by default. This causes a problem where the line does not go completely around. Disabling this option fixed it for me. I am curious what the use case is for this option tho

    • @moltenbolt
      @moltenbolt  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Yeah, we recently encountered this issue during my last livestream. Super weird because it wasnt an issue when I made the tutorial. But as a solution you can also change the "angle" section under the falloff options to 90 degrees and it should work. I have no idea why it is set to 80 by default.
      As for a use case, I haven't encountered one yet 🤔

  • @jhonysteak5512
    @jhonysteak5512 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thank you, I succeeded without any problems but I can't understand what is the point of doing something as complicated as texture painting, it also seems like a headache for weight painting, or even more.
    So I come back to my original method, for the textures, I did it on cubes in shader editor which I link with join to the element of my mesh.
    For the mesh after unwrap, I separate the mesh according to the planned materials then I select an element where I wish to apply a gold texture for example with join then I separate the cub and I remain the scal, the same for the iron etc...
    For the cubes with the textures, I made them in a project and I added them according to my needs from the asset browser.
    It's infinitely faster than that and much simpler than that if we don't take into account the creation of procedural textures which is another matter.
    Once all the textures have been applied to the elements, join the new mesh and for baking, I recommend the simple bak addon to combine the slots. (diffuse/normal/metal...)
    Afterwards what I see is that we can directly modify the textures on the mesh which is not possible with my method although I do not see the point of it.

    • @moltenbolt
      @moltenbolt  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds like a super fast process for sure, and I ALSO recommend Simple Bake, it's sooo good! For some folks (myself included) I enjoy hand-painting - I really just like painting in 3D, so it's worth some complications now and again. But if I were making assets in an actual pipeline I would want procedural textures for sure 😁

    could you make a quick video on how to use ucupaint with a material we already have? For example I have a toon shader I use for my models, sometimes I want to draw on some details to parts of it. How can I use ucupaint with my preexisting material to draw stuff on to my models?

    • @moltenbolt
      @moltenbolt  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When I spoke with Ucupumar (Ucupaint's creator) he told me that Ucupaint still works with regular node setups, so you might just be able to connect the toon shader (assuming it's a color ramp with steps set to constant) to the color input of the Ucupaint node. But I'll see if I can incorporate how to use existing materials into a video in the future.
      For the time being though, you can use the 'mix shader' node to combine your toon shader's output and Ucupaint's output. That would allow you to use both.
