  • I Dream of JEANIE WITH THE LIGHT Brown Hair with words text lyrics & music by Stephen Foster. This is a popular folk song sing along not from the tv show I dream of Jeanie.
    I Dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
    Borne, like a vapor, on the summer air;
    I see her tripping where the bright streams play,
    Happy as the daisies that dance on her way.
    Many were the wild notes her merry voice would pour.
    Many were the blithe birds that warbled them o’er:
    Oh! I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
    Floating, like a vapor, on the soft summer air.
    I Dream of JEANIE WITH THE LIGHT Brown Hair verse 2
    I long for Jeanie with the daydawn smile,
    Radiant in gladness, warm with winning guile;
    I hear her melodies, like joys gone by,
    Sighing round my heart o’er the fond hopes that die:-
    Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain,-
    Wailing for the lost one that comes not again:
    Oh! I long for Jeanie, and my heart bows low,
    Never more to find her where the bright waters flow.
    I sigh for Jeanie, but her light form strayed
    Far from the fond hearts round her native glade;
    Her smiles have vanished and her sweet songs flown,
    Flitting like the dreams that have cheered us and gone.
    Now the nodding wild flowers may wither on the shore
    While her gentle fingers will cull them no more:
    Oh! I sigh for Jeanie with the light brown hair,
    Floating, like a vapor, on the soft summer air.

    This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It makes me recall someone I loved but who left in the end. He had a lovely, playful smile and the most endearing personality, much like Jeanie.

      @@cartman9675 I stand corrected.Reading more about his life,they did reunite after he wrote this song but their marriage was a rocky one. It seems the main problem was his inability to support them financially.Of course in the early days ,song writing was not a very profitable line of work.
      He died alone in a hotel room in January 1864 after falling and receiving a gash in his head and neck Such a tragedy to die so young

    How pleasing to hear each verse and not just the first. For 100+ years, men and women have sung “Jeanie” equally well, from John McCormack, Richard Crooks and Jussi Bjoerling to Rosa Ponselle, Kate Smith and Marilyn Horne. Your roots are in Ohio according to your bio. Are you from Columbus?

    Did Foster speak in British English? The lyrics poor/o'er and rain/again don't rhyme in American English, but do in British English.

    • @CharlesSzaboPhD
      @CharlesSzaboPhD  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No he didn’t. You’re correct on rain/ again not rhyming in Am English, however poor/o’er are very close but not perfect. Some Americans pronounce o’er the same as or

      @typingcat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@CharlesSzaboPhD In my comment above I mistakenly wrote it as "poor", when it was "pour", so "pour"/"o'er" should rhyme in American English too. But if he didn't pronounce "again" like "a gain" like British people, why did he choose "rain" and "again", when he made all other lines rhyme?
