I owned a beautiful 1977 Ford F150 Ranger long bed. It had the factory two tone white and tan paint. No dents, no rust, absolutely beautiful truck. It had a factory 302 with auto trans, even had working factory A/C. Just a super clean truck inside and out. I should have never have sold it, but 8 mpg and with not driving it that much I decided to let it go. I sold it to a guy in his 50's who swore up and down he'd take care of it, etc. Broke my heart to see it full of dents and engine and trans tore apart a few years later. It turns out he had started to use methamphetamine and the rest is history. Don't use methamphetamine!
Poor truck. That is sad. I get attached to vehicles and want to see them taken care of even after I sell them. My truck with the old 390 also got single digit mpg, had mid 200’s for hp, and ran 15.7 quarter miles. Now the mpg is double (or more), the hp is double, and the quarter mile should be in the 12’s. Plus it’ll cruise easily at 80 mph with the ac on. I love it!
Brutally tasteful build, keep the essence of the truck perfectly intact! In my opinion, you put your time & money into all the right places, very inspiring rig!
Piss moan, piss moan. Ok, the headers seem low, but keeeerishtz guys, it's a pretty piece. Word Up. Enjoy your effort, Mr. Blue Thunder dude. Congrats.
I love the gauge cluster! So many people go to digital gauges when the do these kinds of swaps, it's good to see it still has needles! There's just something gratifying about watching a needle sweep across a speedometer or a tachometer vs reading a digital numbers climb higher and higher.
Had to watch it again, was distracted the 1st time.. excellent integration of the Dakota dash.. and that shot of the wiring panel.. wow! That means alot of work and knowing what you're doing. Love the rim/tire size combo. Straight black steelies.. you bet. Love the manual- I gotta have control of my driveline at certain rpm's, so automatic is out. Great video, I recommend watching it!
The engine stock makes 420 hp. With long tube headers, huge K&N, larger intake pipe, 85mm throttle body (stock is 80mm), free flowing mandrel pipes and Magnaflows without cats, it should make closer to 460-470. I haven’t raced it yet, but I have a 1965 Mustang that is close to running high 13’s and this truck is WAY faster! No reason it shouldn’t run 12’s
I have the black plastic air filter cover that came with the CAI that I’d like to use eventually. Just have to figure out how to vent cool air from the grille.
Thanks man! The long Hurst shifter had to be modified and welded at the mount point and moved forward to not hit the bench seat. Shortly after this video I went with bucket seats (needed for the fantastic handling that the Crown Vic front brought) and a Barton short throw shifter. Much better!
@@bluethunder8034 that’s great thank you, currently working on a Vic front end swap on my 73. I eventually want to drop a coyote with the MT82. Thanks again!!

@@bluethunder8034 good deal I appreciate it! And I could definitely use some insight and tips on the restoration of my 77 F-100. It was my grandfather's truck so I'll never get rid of it. With that for it to last the rest of my life it's going to need a frame up full restoration. I'm almost ready to dig in and get the project started. That's a sweet truck you have to you did a hell of a job on it.
How good are you at welding?? I wanna do something like this with mine with a front end crown vic and the rear with the special parts to set the leafsprings up higher since its cheaper than buying lowered i beams. And i have no idea how to weld besides simple go kart parts
I can weld ok but I had a shop box my frame when they put in the Crown Vic front end. I would absolutely recommend the Crown Vic front as it totally transforms the truck in terms of steering, feel, and handling. Best low buck solution for these trucks by far.
I didn't take the trim off. I just taped around it. But, I just use it as a work truck and didn't care. Any really good paint job would remove all the trim.
Motor mounts are factory from the Crown Vic. They bolt up any 4.6 or 5.0 mod motor. The factory oil pan was dented so I used a Moroso aftermarket pan. If I remember correctly, it holds 7 quarts.
I think it is well worth it! I loved the truck when it had the 390 FE big block. Now it has twice the hp, twice the gas mileage, I could drive it cross country comfortably and reliably. Super fun now!

I was thinking the same thing! It's sucking hot air right off the front of the manifold. It would look way hotter with the stock air box back in place on this old truck

What transmission are you running? I'm currently in the process of a coyote swap on an 02 f150 xl regular cab and I'm going with a tremec t56. Did you have any trouble fitting the long tube headers around shock towers?
Trans is the MT82 6 speed manual. Engine and trans came straight out of a 2014 Mustang GT. No issue with the long tubes and shock towers, but the steering linkage had to be fabbed up to clear.
Did you have any problems with the shifter hitting the seat? I'm thinking about doing this myself and I'm trying to do as much research as possible to figure out any hidden obstacles I might run into. You know how it goes, it's always the dumb shit you don't think of that puts you in a serious bind
Yes I did have to bend my long shifter initially and it worked fine. Since then I went with bucket seats and a short quick throw shifter that I like much better.
Thank you! I forget the color name, but I just tried to match the color of the Old Ford Blue I used to paint the interior. It matches pretty darn well I think.
Around 22k. I spent nothing on the paint and body because I don’t care about that with this build. I wanted to keep it a work truck. A few engine mods and CalTrac traction bars to plant the rear tires are about the only extras so far.
It's an 8.8 out of a Crown Vic with posi, 3.27's, and discs. It was $100 and works well but it is wide. I'd go with a more narrow rear if you want to fit wider than 255 tires like I have.
