Watch for a ride along where Jason explains the specs of the truck and a lot of interesting components. Jason also walks us through how much a coyote swap typically costs, and you'll be able to figure out what price range is right for you. Thank you, sir

thank you
I appreciate seeing realistic discussion of what this stuff costs. So many people seem to get sucked into looking at just what the engine costs out of a junkyard or even a "complete swap" from somewhere like The Parts Farm and forget all about making it fit/function in the truck or making the truck ready to drive with twice the power.
Me: I wonder how much a coyote 5.0 and a full restro would cost for my 85 F150 Explorer
Him: you could easily get up to 40, 50, 60, 70,000 dollars
Me: 302 windsor, rustoleum, and eBay it is!
I literally came for the exact same thing! I wanted to see how much it be to swap my 86 but nevermind 🤣
I literally came for the exact same thing! I wanted to see how much it be to swap my 86 but nevermind 🤣
I was thinking the same for my 95 xlt. Im better off rebuilding the 302
Might save a little bit if you know how to do it your self. But that is a talent very few of us have.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That truck looks immaculate. What a beauty. I love that 2 tone color also, looks like it just rolled off the line.
Damn I want one
Dont buy new from dealership id rather grab it from a wrecked mustang or some for less 6k for a 20k engine and take all the wiring and stuff for 1500
Laker Madness your 390 makes 200hp stfu
@Laker Madness sure, a 390 can make that kind of power. But it's still old technology. A modern 5.0 can make 600 just by changing the intake and a tune. Add turbo or supercharger, actually go into the engine, and you can literally get 1300 hp. In a very streetable car.
@Laker Madness i love old big blocks. My favorite truck i ever owned was a 79 F350 with a 460. But a Coyote swap can be cheap. He's talking crate motor. Go to a junk yard, get a wreck truck/Mustang/Expedition/Navigator for $5K. Got everything you need.
@@bigboreracing356 let’s see your track slips on those Chryslers
@@bigboreracing356 you’re Chrysler you made actual clams about. Let’s see the slip, I don’t think you’re lying. I didn’t ask about times on the fox body because you said it was GOING to run 7s, not that it has.
I have a 74 F-100 2wd shortbox that someone ordered the 390 V8 in, I had it rebuilt for a bit more than $2K a couple years back, put a set of headers on and dual glasspacks, heck of a lot of fun to drive, nothing against the Coyote engine, but if I had that type of money to swap one in, it would finish up my bodywork and interior.
Charlie Brown is the PERFECT name for that truck! 😍. But you just blew my plans for a modern resto vrs a new truck lol. I’ll just daily drive a old FE motor...never had a problem with them anyhow. Grandpa drove a 390FE for 30 years
Plus 2 new rear tires.. every other week. I wouldn't mind.
This F-150 is that secret sleeper car you unlock at the end of your favorite racing game, but in real life.
This is the sickest truck I’ve ever seen. Two tone brown with a coyote, straight up nasty!!! 👍
Like ever? Wow, do you live in a small town in rural Wisconsin? hahaha jk. Its pretty cool.
Haha, If that was my truck... I wouldn’t change a thing. The factory nailed with two tone brown.
kevin wiens I miss two tone trucks. New trucks just ain’t the same.
@@kimcokevin id rather have a 7.5 big block with a toploader
@Laker Madness yeah, coyote swaps are overpriced pieces of shit, anyways. never really messed with a 390 though. theyre relatively the same as a 385 series im guessin
You talked me right out of a Coyote swap !
Tim Wasson what vehicle did you want to put it in?
😂😂😂
A bra I saw a another video made me feel the same way I'm just gonna buy a 11-14 mustang.
@@characterdevelopment2361 exactly
This coyote swap sure isn’t for a bum, I plan on doing this one of these days though just saving up to make it happen
thats one of the coolest trucks Ive ever seen in my entire life
You do a great job describing the build. Your wife heard you say 90 mph in a 45 zone. You guys do AWESOME builds!!
I’m glad I found this channel. I have an 87 F-150, and while my truck won’t ever be on this level of badassery, it gives me some awesome inspiration.
With a plasma cutter and a can-do attitude anything is possible.
Been thinking about doing this for my 2001 F150 Supercrew if or when the 5.4 L Triton ever gives way. Thoughts on cost to do mine?
Saw coyote swap and instantly smashed the like button. It’s fast lol💪🏾
We have a 1979 F-250 4 wheel drive in the color combo of light sand and brown. Very similar to this truck. My dad bought it new in 79 and it has stayed with us ever since. The Coyote engine would be awesome in the truck but for now the 351M will have to do.
The Fat Fender truck is awesome with the resto on everything. Would love to see it in person. Excellent work.
Thank ya sir
Always wished I had the cash for a frame like what you guys build, when I built a '66 C-20 Fleetside, but now I can afford what I couldn't in my 20's so I'm stuck between a '57 Chevy C10 or a '57 F-100. Your channel ROCKS!
Go with the 57 chev. Ford's ended with the '56!

Motors can range from truck at $4,500
To crate motors at $15k-$16k
Recommended the used motors have less than 40k-50k miles with no front impact. Side or rear impact affected Used motors preferred.
Love this! I didn't hear anything about the transmission, what is typically used in this type of swap?
Anyone ever told you you like like Jim Jefferies. Great work, I hope one day my shade tree skills can compete. Thanks for the honesty.
Man that's definitely a badass F150 Ranger with that 5.0L Coyote V8.
I know this comment will show the bowtie fanboy in me but I'm glad to see that Ford makes a reliable High Performance V8 that people actually want to swap into their vehicles instead of just slapping a Chevy 350 or LS motor in it.
I'm a die hard Ford guy. And I totally agree. Ford has needed a good crate motor like this for a while. The LS is a spectacular engine, and really simple. In terms of tech I think the coyote rivals it, but it's just on par with almost everything else the LS does. (Not everything the ls does something's better obviously)
@@thatmarred_mustang Right now I have lightning I want to swap with a coyote. My L is making 480rwhp but I want a more fuel efficient motor so I can daily it. then the L engine will go into another 97 f150 xl regular cab flareside where it'll make the perfect sleeper. Only thing stopping me is the cost for the damn 5.0 with a 10speed auto.
These new EFI systems like the Edelbrock Pro Flow are so good I dunno what’s stopping Ford guys from upgrading their old motors. It’s easy to get the same power a coyote has with a 348 stroker or 351 and you can EFI them now. I saw one guy put a Edelbrock EFI on his 396 Chevy and it went from 11mpg to 16mpg from the swap alone! That’s before a trans swap or gear change. So I thought I wanted a coyote swap but you can modernize the old motors so well these days I’m not sure the coyote is worth the headache. But Ford should offer crate engines like that in he first place like GM does. EFI 302 and 351s would sell like crazy
STREET RACER well I have no interest in a 7 second quarter mile lol. I like the Coyote though...have one in my 2011 F150.
STREET RACER the stock 420hp coyote would be more than enough for me. In my 66 F100 it would rip! But I can build a nice 347 or 351 WAY cheaper and slap Edelbrock EFI on it. 420-450 street horsepower enough for me. There’s nothing unreliable about those old engines, it’s the carbs that can get cranky on them. Edelbrock or holly EFI fixes that problem. It’s not all that much money to make a old school EFI motor and be perfectly reliable. I just can’t do 10k plus over a coyote. I’ll enjoy coyote in my modern truck
Nice! Can’t wait to see that 96 F150 all done
Same here mate.
Hope you put new tires on before you shipped..
I could sure use a build like this to tow my travel trailer. I would have no fear of hills with that!
If I had all the cash I would definitely do a Coyote swap in my 96 F150 in a heart beat.
This truck is straight nostalgia for me. I had a 75 short box tho, still the same gen however. And I now have a 12 coyote stang with a Paxton. I can only imagine having that engine in my old truck. I am sure I want one... but with the new 10spd auto and drag radials.
AVG Joes Garage I would avoid the 10 speed auto lol. Lots of trouble with them apparently...both the Fords and Chevy. The 6 speed is a much better transmission
I have a 78' Bronco Custom.
It came stock with a 351 but when I got it someone swapped it for a 400 and did it very poorly and it was all welded in there and fucked up so I took a HP390 from a 67'Fairlane and put it in there.
Its monstrous
Same year truck I learned how to drive in. Brings back memories.
When you say you kind of cleaned up the interior, those are the incorrect verbs, adjectives and nouns. How bout, "we completely restored the living shit outta this hunk of metal here" that I believe describes what you actually did here. Great Job!
Ima visit y'all, with my crew cab Ranger with Cobra engine swap once this whole Covid crap is over! Keep up the awesome work!
Not true. I had a 79 f-150 with everything in good shape. It was not a bmw interior but everything worked like it should.
absolutely perfect take my money !!
Also what is the final drive gear ratio that makes it spin like that?
really cool vid i love coyote swaps but they are very expensive
That is my dream truck
Just beautiful
Nice work
I'd like to see the underside up on a hoist. Nicely detailed truck.
Gotta take her out to dinner first
I noticed that the Ford retained a stock appearing column
shifter. Did you retain the stock C6 transmission?
James Henry they used the mustang trans they had too.. or id think so
In a different video he said they use the Ford 6r80... That being said idk what they put in this one.
I have question when you place intake like that can you drive on really bad rain conditions like Oregon or Northern California rain?
The other question is what vehicles a good candidates for a cheap easy swap and what ones aren’t? You’d think a pickup or Torino with a big engine bay would be a good candidate. How about the 60’s mustangs or cougars and the fox body mustangs? Do things get a little tight?
All those can fit a coyote. The better the vehicle as far as drivability, the easier. If we get an old junker, more money.
What transmission did you use for F150?
My dad had a 77 blue in color, short bed. Beautiful trucks
Is there any way you could install an updated Air conditioning system (and heating) but keep the factory "slider" controls on the dash?
Vintage air makes the slider kits
@@davidpayne2469 does wire right up to the original Ford factory ones?
@@russelstrawmire9817 yes if what ever you are doing has factory air it just connecting your ac lines to firewall and your 3 wire to ac solenoid your fan speed switch does the rest but if it don't have factory air then you have to buy all the extra stuff
6:03 I had a brand new step side in 1976 loved it with factory 302 now I drive a F350 quad cab I see by the video there is still the ford steering play you can move the steering wheel 1/2 inch each way and nothing happens I'm thinking about a new steering box on my F350.
This is all awesome and beyond what the costs come too. Real world engineering by smart guys.
In the end you just have to ask yourself if you want a fast show truck or a truck you can haul with.
You can buy a new truck and worry about reliability and dealer repair heartburn or have one of these!
I have a 1986 F-150 I'm going to Coyote swap. I have a 5 speed manual to marry up to it. Can you steer me in the right direction for mounts and other parts ill need?
I wish I could just get my mustang 66 to start lol Ive spent so much money taking it too shops for them to fix but the problem is reoccurring
New shops dont know alot about carburaters man you gotta take it to a shop like mine I specialize in old school cars.
someone has a sweet old ford truck nice job
I love it, I had a 79 I would have liked to do this to . I have a 97 f250 with a 460 I'd like to swap for a coyote .
Good to know about the exhaust doing a swap and trying to keep the sound level down for a road car. (Crown Victoria) So Borla XR-1 and the Crate motor resonators? Is that correct, trying to piece my build as well! Thank you! Love the trucks!
Charlie Brown is my dream truck, but maybe not in brown, what would a Charlie Green cost?
So, I take it my current 2017 F150 with the 5.0 is a keeper and all I'll really need is the new whipple 3.0 and a tune? I was contemplating a 2019 Raptor and doing the Coyote swap but if it's a matter of saving a ton of money I'll keep my 17.
$40,000 would be a fucking bargain for this complete restoration. The quality and expertise is absolutely priceless.
I definitely want one, but I don’t have an old truck to restore in the first place. I wonder if they sell them?
So what other Ford engine swaps are cool? I was looking for something to put into my 77 4door maverick.
Always wanted to do this for 2007 Ford Expedition!
Really awesome ride !
Y'all did a beautiful job.
I love the restored old school exterior with the modern horsepower.
Maybe upgrade the suspension at some point to a more modern set up ?
No it’s perfect in my mind, good horsepower and a tough rugged suspension that will still take you places it was designed for
That would be a sweet set-up in a 1965 Galaxie 500...
Y'all did a Wonderful job !
Do you have kits for a 1994 F150 ?
I'm not a ford fan, but that was a really nice job
I'd rather have the 300 inline six for that truck, 351 if it were a short bed.

@@bigboreracing356 Been there done that, won't do it again. You want a Cummins truck, buy a Dodge and keep it close to stock.

I may have missed it. Where is the cost price mentioned?
Camera did not show the dashboard display when you were pointing it out before the drive.
Love this style and year of truck. awesome.
Do you ship cars with new tires after burning all that rubber? I would hope so.
How mich would you charge to fo the same thing to a 1979 ford f150 i know its 1 year layer but yeah
Late model f150 swap with 10 speed would be killer
La primera que veo que la dejan original pero bajo el cofre esta la pachanga sin duda
That’s Why I’m going with the coyote, for my 65 mustang. sad I’ll have to change my ridetech suspension
Charlie brown 😆 hilarious love it
Great looking truck .
A few years ago I drove my 78 f250 to surprise az for Christmas to see my mom it's all stock and I saw that you have a pace cb radio in the truck my dad fixed pace cb in seattle wa
What brakes are in this truck? The same mustang brakes where the coyote came from? Anyone know?
I have never hesitated to ad the money... you always get it back and then some if and when you sell. I prefer the old trucks to anything newer than 1980. Just me. I have a 1979 Bronco I wanna but a coyote or Godzilla in... As an engine builder, I was against swapping the old motors out, now I support it if you are replacing a Windor or 335 Series motor. the 385 will still make more power, but the aftermarket supports the 385 series (429/460) with all the bells and whistles! There are a plethora of EFI sequential and throttle body systems, multiple intakes, heads, and serpentine belt drive systems, etc... However, on my 79 Bronco, I will be looking into a swap eventually, my Bronco is not the current project, and it only has 54,000 miles and runs and drive like a top, so the 351M can live for now. Wonder if the Coyote will bolt to my 4spd :)
How much did the tires cost?
25,000?!? lol i built a 1968 f100 with a 12 valve cummins AND converted it to a 4x4 AND re did the interior top to bottom for $5500 lol of course its gonna cost 25,000-40K if you buy every bracket from them and get them to do the work
Very nice. I wish my 1970 f100 looked like that. Great job.
I’m dropping by next time I’m in town!

I was thinking about coyote for my 71 f100 sport custom short bed but

@@FatFenderGarage the motor is 9500 new. Your telling me it cost $30,500.00 in labor? Does it take 6 months to put in?
Jrmcmlln I think you are forgetting a lot of parts. Transmission, exhaust, gauges, fuel tank, fuel lines, brake system, driveshaft, AC system, Power steering, transmission cooler, radiator etc. When you add all those parts up, and labor, it’s like I said
All that money put in that truck and they put a cheap Spectre air filter on the intake tube I don't know if the design is changed but all the ones I used to use was allowing dirt to go by and get into the tube after a short amount of time but clean nice build
That thing sounds NASTY!! Excellent taste in muffler changes etc to reach that tone. Dad and I have a '75 that my grandad bought new, I'm 3rd generation owner (on our 2nd resto, currently). Have owned a '19 GT A10 and now a '21 Mach 1... Probably have 20K invested in a built FE with some Blair Patrick goodies that MIGHT make 500ish hp on pump gas for the truck - if I could do it all over again, I'd go coyote in a heartbeat. They're incredible, and have SO much potential as-delivered from Ford.
Great job with 'ol Charlie B. Hope the new owner enjoys the Schmidt out of that thing, I know I would!
What's the best engine to put in my 1982 ford f150 XL
351 Windsor
Awesome, they retained the wandering, high performance Twin-I Beam. I’ve had three of those. These days, I’m betting you’d be searching a while to find a shop to do an alignment to usable spec. Get out the rosebud boys! 🤣
Is a 78 bronco pretty much same difference in the engine bay as a 78 ranger? In other words putting a coyote motor in a 4x4 78 bronco just the same?
What other modern creat motor could I put in it? Would a eco boost be better?
Unfortunatley we haven't been able to verify that.. If the measurements are the same then yes, it should work. If it doesn't, we'll consider making a specific kit for it (provided demand is high enough) If you have any more questions or want a more detailed answer, please email info@fatfendergarage.com :)
Now you owe the guy two new tires. 😎👌
Nice ford love them old school hub caps👍
So is the AC box delete necessary on this series of truck or was that for cleanliness?

That is also great for a Lincoln Town Car and Mercury Grand Marquis. There is nothing wrong swapping that engine for those cars I explain.
Is there a way to do a manual
Do you think I could put an F150 coyote in my 1988 F150
There's many many prices you could only want the swap screw the body and interior swap and interior ect ect used parts or new parts ect ect pay to get it done or do all the work yourself or some shop work and some yourself ect ect
Very good choice on the bench seat, anything else just wouldn’t look right.
How much does it cost to install the coyote motor?
I always put my arm on the armrest and my hand was on about the 7 or 8 o'clock position!
I have a 84 dodge d150 prospector.. Would call be able to do the same to that
Yeah, but how much for just the engine, transmission, pcm programming and wiring diagram to do it yourself if everything else on the truck is in perfect condition? Been a mechanic for a long time but this is not what normally do, mostly cars less than 20 years old. cant even remember the last time I replaced a distributor lol. I recently picked up a 79 f150 tore everything down and painted it and currently replacing all bushings and balljoints, upgrading to all disc brakes with (new master cylinder and brake booster), and rebuilding the differential. Everything under the hood will be new but I'm just debating on just throwing a 351 in it, but I'd really like to drop a coyote in it. Just trying to get an idea of what it would take. Still probably about 6 months away from ordering an engine. trying to keep the whole build under 25k which seems pretty doable so far since i don't have to pay for labor but I'm in foreign territory here with custom engine swaps haha.
