    Doc was completely overmatched by Kareem in one-on-one but Julius could still posterize Kareem though.

    dr j has no j. he can't shoot a jumper to save his life. i feel like if jordan or kobe played jabbar, they would shoot a few jumpers at least.

      Bro he's 42 here. Players like Dr J rely on their athleticism and by the age of 42 that is gone. Players like Kareem rely on their size and that size don't go away at all. The only thing that would stop Kareem would be him losing his strength which probably went away around age 50 or 60.

    Dr. J was the one who thought of this!! This was a business venture he began and there were two other PPV matches between other former NBA stars. Dr. J says that he spent so much time promoting the match that he didn't have time to get himself physically ready for it.

    @loy829 Kareem would score on you in EVERY possesion even at that age.

  • @bigdinlaca

    If I remember correctly, this was advertised a lot because this was shown on Ppv.
    It was 2 kids arguing on who was better and then Kareem and Dr. J overheard the argument.

    if the smaller player can't shoot the ball well, there is no chance for him to defeat the bigger player in one on one game

    I am so glad i found this clip. This is how real men play basketball. BigUp DrJ for his brave challenge and BiIgUp Jabbar for not turning this challenge down. This is love for the game and for the fans. They didnt care if they would look bad or if one would loose to the other. You will never see such a one-one today. Most players today are affraid of making a fool out of them self. Kyrie challenged Kobe who talked a lot of smack and chickened out. MJ vs Magic or kyrie vs Kobe. Those would be sick 1 on 1..

    • @andfiker
      @andfiker 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** Kobe didn't chicken out, neither one was super serious about the challenge but were both willing to go if they other one was. Kyrie afterwards said he was kidding and knew Kobe would win. 3 years later I'm not sure Kyrie would still say the same thing lol.

    • @zamsoniteb8306
      @zamsoniteb8306 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I disagree. The players today are all super affraid of media and how their image is published in social networks etc.. Instead of accepting to get beaten one on one they find excuses or pretend like they dont take it serious. Thats why you dont see Lebron in the dunk contest or Kobe one on one against Irving. Lebron knows he has a very small chance winning and so does Kobe..

    • @andfiker
      @andfiker 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Lebron would win solely based off of popularity....Blake Griffin jumped over the HOOD of a Kia car (sponsor for the NBA, that's why he won) and Dwight Howard literally threw the ball into the net...Lebron would win easily.
      Also, with the Kobe 1 vs 1 I'm not too sure, remember this was before Dwight even came to LA and he's also much bigger than Kyrie; in 1 vs 1 match-ups size matters a lot, just look at what happened between Dr. J and Kareem.

    • @cdplaya1973

      They tried to do MJ vs Magic but NBA was against it

    • @zamsoniteb8306
      @zamsoniteb8306 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      well that would have been a mismatch but a lot of fun i think. Bird vs Magic would have been great. The young guys now are to scared of making a fool out of them self to participate in any one-on-one action. One a vid like that turns up on youtube I guess the looser would be embarrased..IF that person puts value to such criticizm..

    too bad for dr j his jump/perimeter shots did not work which was supposed to lure jabbar to step up d on the outside and then dr J would just get pass to go for a dunk

  • @tomjones7089
    @tomjones7089 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Over 23 years ago, time flies for sure. Jabbar's size was too much, Dr. J obviously has lost his jumping, agility and speed. Way boring, no wonder I never heard of the match until now. Looks like they were trying to make series with this. To match up two retired stars, did not work out.

    I tell you stupid folks. If you're going to one on one with a person who is taller than you, it's going to be difficult. He could just post you up and it is done. Yes you're faster but in one on one, it is very hard to get through your opponent (no screen, no distraction from temmate, even if you get passed him he could still easily block u if hes higher) I challenged many friends who was shorter than me and I could easily win, but not against the taller ones.

    • @dookdawg214
      @dookdawg214 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is what I've always said. If a guard or small forward is going up against a post player of similar talent/experience in a one-on-one game, he has almost no chance. All a post player has to do is back him down into the paint and do what he always does. He has a huge advantage.

    • @ebookpioneers
      @ebookpioneers 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not necessarily. I'm 6'4" and always kept the bigger guys out of the paint because I had much stronger legs than any of them. I could squat 600 and leg press 1400. Nobody was going to back me up anywhere I didn't want to go. Smaller forwards should work on their leg strength. That's the name of the game inside the paint.

    This would have been better with players of comparable size, say: Kareem Abdul Jabbar vs. Wilt Chamberlain or Dr. J vs. Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan. The size being similar makes a difference when both players are great.

  • @TheRiggedBA
    @TheRiggedBA 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've always wondered why Dr.J agreed to this. Erving is only 6'7". The shortest I've ever seen Kareem listed is 7'2". This game was over before it started. I just hope Doc got paid some big dollars for participating in this mismatch.

      Jabbar would beat him, both in their primes. The only player that i think could beat Jabbar is Olajuwon. I'm talking about a one on one, Jordan can't compete against a giant who shot threes... Jabbar could block MJ all the time. Believe me, only Olajuwon could beat Jabbar.
