I seriously doubt that LeBron James will come close to being able to play at an elite level after 20 years in the NBA. Then again, I seriously doubt that his ass will even make it that long.
Sports medicine wasn’t as advanced as know. Back then an ACL injury could be career ending mostly because no player came back the same way on the court.
Boy you have no idea how rusty you can be if you havent played basketball for like years. They probably only touched the ball like a couple times in a few years after they had retired
Dr.J had some balls. Actually both men did; they're both retired with good legacies, they would never want to publicly see "who's better" after they created such class resumes and legacies. Could stain everything u did before. But also these centers are fucking huge and dominant. Dr. j took on such a physically Dominant player.
In a 1 on 1 basketball game the taller guy always has the advantage. You'll get most of the rebounds and will henceforth get more scoring opportunities.
jack mehoff Fuck off. I'm talking about in a one v. one situation. Height isn't a determinant of skill; Michael Jordan was the best to ever play but he wasn't exceptionally tall.
The greatest centers are the greatest players ever. A team of 5 great centers beats a team of smaller 5 guys any day. Size does matter people. 2 great legends though. They both deserve respect.
Willis96 Agreed. But here there's little space to run straight, it's just round and round the same basket in a quite narrow circle, and when both guys getting old get slower and slower then size turns out to be again the most important asset, unless one of them is still an elite shooter from faaaar.... Pushing the example to the limits, just put two "fit" 70 yo ex basketball players under one rim playing one o one like that. None of them can really run anymore, just walk fast. One of them is a 7 footer the other one is 6'5" tall, and none of them was ever a top 3 points shooter. Who do you think is going to have more scores after 20 mins?
***** The centers would cover entire halfcourts with their size and reach. C-Wilt, PF-Shaq, SF- Kareem, SG- Olayuwon, PG-Russell and you got yourself the GOAT team:)
Very impressive to see Kareem's ball-handling and defensive skills against a quicker player. He and Wilt are by far the greatest centers of all time, and possibly the greatest players of all time. Dr. J was a very good player, but not in the same category as Kareem, Wilt, Bird, Magic, West or Michael. And please don't try to put Shaq or Kobe in the same category as these guys.
Doc never really had a jumpshot, so this outcome is obvious. It's one of the gratest centers versus a small forward! Doc vs bernard king would've been better.
I hate to say it, & people will go crazy because of his "legendary" status & class. But Doc wasn't a great "half court" player. There are a lot of small forwards who could have beaten Doctor J in 1--on-1. Playing 1-on-1 comes down to dribbling, shooting, fakes, & on -the-ball defense, & Doc was not an expert at any of those things, you can't dunk on someone every play unless you're Shaq or Chamberlain. Prime-vs-prime Bird, Dominique, Lebron, Durant, Carmelo, Elgin Baylor, & Grant Hill (yes Grant Hill) would all beat Doc. And the following small forwards may also have beaten him or given him a close game: Alex English, Adrian Dantley, Paul Pierce, Bernard King, Mark Aguirre, James Worthy, & Rick Barry. I love Doc but 1-on-1 his arsenal isn't quite what people remember. Doc was a great open-court finisher but the above players I mentioned actually had more refined skills.
Yea most definitely. Alex English Bernard King and especially Adrian Dantley had a game made for one on one playing. The numbers speak for themselves and Adrian was deadly. Not so sure about worthy but why not? And yes grant Hill was no slouch I think he was definitely a great one on one player. I was just saying I think he would've been able to beat jabbar.
1 on 1 the tall man has no advantage. The better player has the advantage. Kareem was not the only 7 footer when he was in the league. He dominated because he was most talented.Just look at Caldwell Jones a teammate of Dr. J. He is a seven footer and the Doc would wipe the floor with him, Dr. J's great advantage was in his athletic ability in the open court. Half court one on one is not playing to his strength.
Wow, never saw this before. Kareem looks good, pretty much dominates Dr. J. This really shows how big Kareem was/is physically. If I was Dr. J I would have run reverse layups all day - difficult for big guys to stop.
Well I idiolized Dr. J growing up in the 70's. I taught my son a move that I learned from Dr. J, since he was never a good ball handler....grab the rebound and push/throw the ball in front of you you will have to run fast to keep up with it but your defender will not catch you. It worked for the Dr. and it worked for me. I am now fifty-one but at forty-two I was still hell on wheels.
Yeah. Kareem did have a huge edge; playing and height. Also, Dr. J was another one of my favorite basketball players from back in the day. Iceman/Dennis Johnson/Jack Sikma were my other 3 favorite players.
he played with Robertson-31 a game to his 19--they were a title contender before The Big O came, in only the second year of the franchise O probably pushed them over the top-but then I didn't start watching ball until mid 70's My point was people forget how dominant Kareem was in the 70's because the NBA took off in the 80's when Kareem had already been playing for 10-12 years. He played much of his career in the limelight as a force, but a shadow of what he was 31PPG 16RPG The Dream=27&12
My respect to both of these legends for even agreeing to this battle. You can see that even at that age Dr J was very skilled, but Kareem had the height advantage. He blocked or altered so many shots.
Really lol lol .Two has beens .Surprised they agreed to this circus.Should have done this in 1973- when they both were at the peak of their athletic skills.

I guess very few players would win against Kareem in a 1 on 1 game
its 2023 and this is still awesome
This the Best Kept Secret on TH-cam 💯
Then again 7-2 against 6-6 no match
this is so great to watch. i know thereretired but id still watch them.
In a 1 on 1 basketball game the taller guy always has the advantage. You'll get most of the rebounds and will henceforth get more scoring opportunities.
+zellarsDD777 You got to be kidding
Stuart Perry No, I'm not. I bet you don't even play basketball.
+zellarsDD777 Charles Barkley
+zellarsDD777 what are you a fucking idiot. A taller person has an advantage in basketball?
jack mehoff Fuck off. I'm talking about in a one v. one situation. Height isn't a determinant of skill; Michael Jordan was the best to ever play but he wasn't exceptionally tall.
If they played FULL COURT - Who wins then?
Tables turn. Suddenly Dr. J has the advantage.
Dr J clearly was no match for Jabbar
Kareem was 44; Dr. J just turned 42 a week prior to this charity game.
The greatest centers are the greatest players ever. A team of 5 great centers beats a team of smaller 5 guys any day. Size does matter people. 2 great legends though. They both deserve respect.
Not necessarily, if you are more skilled than the other guy, size doesn't matter.
EmperorJBO
It does:) Size matters. Size and skill> skill.
and hows size gonna help after the ball is stolen and some athletic 6'3 guard is sprinting as fast as he can to the other end of the court?
*****
The centers would cover entire halfcourts with their size and reach. C-Wilt, PF-Shaq, SF- Kareem, SG- Olayuwon, PG-Russell and you got yourself the GOAT team:)
Just goes to show you what a marvelous athlete Kareem was........Dr J looks like he just woke up...
I remember watching this on ppv as a kid. I was so hyped for it and then disappointed
I CAN'T WATCH THIS!
Dr J used to kill guys like Kareem with speed and agility. In this match Kareem's height played a huge role.
"Guys like Kareem"?You say as if there were dozens of guys like Kareem in the NBA..He wasn't your regular giant center but a GOAT candidate
dammm j dident even score right
First time seeing this and I love it!
i wouldve cross them so bad
loool😂😂😂
Stfu
Both from NY. I'm proud!
Doc never really had a jumpshot, so this outcome is obvious. It's one of the gratest centers versus a small forward! Doc vs bernard king would've been better.
Still he had been retired longer so that was the biggest factor. He was older and athletecism was long gone.
+I Graham true, I know that. I still dont see how doc could win 1on-1 vs Jabbar even if they were both 30 years old.
Sassonic, yea both in their primes I think jabber could win but Julius was a monster back his day
I hate to say it, & people will go crazy because of his "legendary" status & class.
They need to do this Again !
+Stuart Perry .. I agree. Most talented player wins in 1-on-1. Also, Kareem (then Lew Alcindor) dominated Wilt Chamberlain, too.
Anthony Moody awww no he didn't, old knee's Wilt was blocking the skyhook!
old chmberlain out rebound kareem by huge margin
NBA needs this at all star weekend The Nets Irving against Atlanta Trae Young
Dr. J was playing with gloves on. You can't shoot ball with gloves on. In their primes the Doctor woulda killed Jabar.
Stop dreaming.
hey man i'm a julius fan too but blame it on the gloves, hell no!
Absolutely not! Kareem was too big for Dr. J. In a 1 on 1 game, Kareem would easily win against him.
Charles Wyatt they played in their prime I have to disagree
Add this to the NBA all star game today and the ratings will go through the roof
Modernised players suck, why can't they do this man?? I'm stingy but even I would pay to watch 1on1s with Kobe,Lebron,Durant ect.
they make to much
you know what! I never saw this lol, this is fun for the game I hope Kobe and Jordan, have a one on one for the fans that would be awesome
+billy30001000 I agree but too much difference in age.
l agree lol
too late :-(
Are there more of these games (with different players)? I don't remember this at all lol!!
Entrance song ?
Wow, never saw this before. Kareem looks good, pretty much dominates Dr. J. This really shows how big Kareem was/is physically.
If I was Dr. J I would have run reverse layups all day - difficult for big guys to stop.
Kareem is in better condition, clearly. This is awsome though.
if this is jordan vs wilt. There will be no discussion who is the GOAT. Height is might.
its ok doc, your still great.
@philagon i have the udercards on video some place. rick barry did lose to the ice man though. that was a great match
he played with Robertson-31 a game to his 19--they were a title contender before The Big O came, in only the second year of the franchise
O probably pushed them over the top-but then I didn't start watching ball until mid 70's
My point was people forget how dominant Kareem was in the 70's because the NBA took off in the 80's when Kareem had already been playing for 10-12 years. He played much of his career in the limelight as a force, but a shadow of what he was
31PPG 16RPG
The Dream=27&12
My respect to both of these legends for even agreeing to this battle. You can see that even at that age Dr J was very skilled, but Kareem had the height advantage. He blocked or altered so many shots.
skilled? 😂😂😂😂
BRING THIS BACK!!
Really lol lol .Two has beens .Surprised they agreed to this circus.Should have done this in 1973- when they both were at the peak of their athletic skills.
Has been? Kareem was only 3 years out the league and still is fundamentally sound, not to mention he's older than Dr J.
It is not fair, at this age size matters. 20 years earlier Dr J game would look different but Kareem would look exactly the same :)
