Queen Elizabeth II Hosts Garden Party at Holyrood Palace (1990) | Royal History

- On 11 July 1990, Queen Elizabeth II hosted a garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. Joined by her mother, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother; her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh; and her daughter, Princess Anne, Princess Royal, the Queen welcomed hundreds of guests into the royal grounds. A garden party is held at the palace every year, as part of 'Royal Week' (also known as ‘Holyrood Week’), an annual celebration of Scottish culture. The first Royal Week of the reign of King Charles III began on 3 July 2023. This evening, 4 July 2023, the monarch will be joined by his wife, Queen Camilla, and his sister, Princess Anne, Princess Royal, as he hosts his first garden party to celebrate the Coronation year.

The Queen had a very nice reaction to the woman's failure while curtsying. Her Majesty continued to hold her hand. A very kind gesture.
I agree. I also noticed that. I felt that it was very kind of Her Majesty to hold onto the guest's hand, to stop her from falling, whilst curtsying. (At about 3.29, in the video).

This must have been in first week of July 1990, the late British monarch her majesty Queen Elizabeth II was always at the palace of holyrood house in Edinburgh in the first week of July each year, before proceeding to Balmoral estate in Aberdeen where she spent her annual summer holiday till early October.
Currently in July 2023, her son King Charles III is in Edinburgh following the same tradition. From a Nigerian who lives in Nigeria I say God bless the soul of Queen Elizabeth II and God save King Charles III.

My Grandmother went to a garden party at Holyrood with the Queen Mother! My Uncle was in the Gordon Highlanders at the time & was invited! He took my grandmother with him as his plus one!

I've always thought it was interesting how Queen Elizabeth's alleged 'favorites', being Andrew and at one time Harold, made little sense on the surface. She adored her mother, who has been described as a cruel snob more than once. I can understand why she loved Prince Philip, despite his cantankerous ways, he stood beside her always. I suppose it's a testament to her ability to love unconditionally but I don't think I'll ever understand the 'favorites' considering what they've shown themselves to be. She was an amazing woman.
It always strikes me as laughable that the Queen Mother was a snob. She was born a commoner. She was aristocratic, but not royal. She wasn't even a minor royal. Where did she get all of the snobbery from as someone who had a much lower position in society than typical consorts? Consorts have typically been princes and princesses going back to at least George III, so many in royal circles could have just as easily looked down on her for being a commoner. She should've been the very last person to be a snob!
The Queen mother was allgedly the daughter of a French cook. Her legal mother couldn't have another child, which she desperately wanted, and the cook obliged. That's why her nickname was " Cookie"
@@anyaw340The actual definition of a snob is someone who sucks _up_ to those they perceive as a higher status. For some reason in the last 50 years or so the meaning has become confused and people think it means someone who _is_ of a higher status and reminds others of it. But by all accounts the Queen Mother was absolutely vicious, I know relatives of hers and they refer to her as Mrs Bucket

I don't know. I don't feel that Camilla does the Royal Family any favors considering her scandalous background. Maybe if she at least had the presence of a royal, I'd feel differently, but she doesn't even have that. When I look at her, it's hard to see any form of "queen". On Coronation Day, she looked like someone who was in costume. Her wave on the balcony was awful, and she looked extremely awkward - not at all poised. I was hopeful that, by some unlikely miracle, Charles would abdicate in favor of William due to his age and past, but of course not. For years, the public has been groomed by Elizbeth to accept her son and his former mistress as the future king and queen despite their moral failings.

I couldn't agree that it's fair to compare, or that Her Late Majesty was more Regal. I feel that all are Regal, in their own ways. Society also changes, including some elements of public Royal life.

They have it all mapped out with different lines so the different worlds go down different lines. Where mega got in trouble at the Buckingham Palace party Is she just took off to do her own thing. She could never be under anyone's control or even for the good of the order.

@@janet20257 Her teeth looked like that for quite awhile. Also, bad teeth in old age is not a given. Teeth don't get that bad unless you don't brush regularly. She probably drank a lot of tea, and I don't know whether she smoked at all. In combination with bad brushing habits and no regular dental care, you get teeth that look like that.

No, it's not just Hollywood. Many people get false teeth, or veneers, if theirs go bad. Also, she didn't need to get false teeth. She could've just taken care of the ones she had. These are NOT just "aged teeth"; these are "*badly* aged teeth". Maybe it's an American thing, but most elderly people's teeth don't look nearly this bad. They may be off-white or some shade of yellow, but the Queen mother's teeth were brown and looked like they were rotting in her mouth. That is a lack of dental care and dental hygiene - plain and simple. My guess is that she consumed a lot of caffeine in the form of tea, and also didn't have the best dental upkeep over the years. That will lead to teeth that look like this. Again, these are not typical "aged teeth".
