Came here after the Queen passed away. 70 years after the death of her father, 20 years after her sister and mother, and a year after her husband, the Queen passed away, finally reunited with her parents, her only sibling and her rock. I think the sisters admired the differences in each other. I think it broke the Queen's sister heart when she denied Margret the marriage to Peter. The fact that they were able to move past it speaks to the bond and love between the two of them.
Until the age of 25, the Queen could refuse her sister to marry which she did and Margaret was asked to wait. On reaching 25,, Margaret could have married Peter Townsend, however she would have had to give up her right in line to succession to the throne as would have her children. Perhaps that played in the balance for despite all Margaret was very attached to her status as Princess and all the frills that went with it.

I think Queen Elizabeth is an amazing woman, who has been through so much. She is a woman to be greatly admired for her sense of duty and rising to the challenge of being Queen at the young age of 25. She has had to cope with so many scandals within the royal family, and has always maintained a sense of dignity no matter what the situation. I think that Duchess Catherine has many of the same qualities as the Queen, and will one day be the perfect Queen Consort.
I agree, nobody is perfect; but, I think the Duchess of Cambridge, and i know she has faults, is as close to perfection as a human can get. Yes, Queen Elizabeth is a good hearted humble, firm and disciplined family Woman. Women can be best leaders, and luckily she was brought up as an ordinary Royal decendant with no expectation of being a Queen until very late in her family's life that he realized that she must groom and train her sothat she ascends to the throne better equipped than him. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were meant to be. Elizabeth was pragmatic enough and love Philip that much to tolerate and accept her seemingly foible husband. Philip on the other hand does loves Elizabeth and did everything he could to support her as a consort, a role that took him quite some time to get used to. And, he did all he could to protect her and the crown from potential harm.
I loved this. Queen Elizabeth is such a strong lady to go through all of this. To become a queen at 25, losing her parents, her only sister and to reign in this day and age.

There is such a sense of responsibility and duty for the Queen and her generation. I think Margaret in the end, had regrets especially regarding Townsend. I hope she is at peace. She deserves that.

David was wealthy in his own right and financed his departure with the sale of several properties to his brother Albert in order to keep them in the royal family. He was also a man of the world, very sophisticated, Margaret was sheltered. Marrying Peter against her family's wishes would have resulted in banishment, loss of family and if not poverty, then a definite downgrading of status. It was a hard choice.

After having witnessed the abdication disaster due to the Wallis Simpson affair, Bertie would've been wise to include Margaret in the grooming lessons Elizabeth had to go through. It would have been much more positive for the younger sister's character, too! She was really a child when George VI became King. Then 2nd WW came up, and I dont think the King could have divulged state secrets to a 10 yr old.. Then came QE IIs marriage and King himself being ill and an early death.. I dont think he had enough time.. Sad.
Unfortunately education wasn't really a priority for women at that time especially in the upperclass. Thankfully Anne was given an education that her mother and Aunt were denied. I hope Margaret's daughter was able to have access to a decent education that her mother was denied.

She passed in front of us girl guides& her husband touched her arm so she turned her head & saw us girl guides & smiled & waved at us !! I could have touched the car when they passed !! I saw her again when they passed on our Road to go see Stobie Mine ,in Sudbury,Ontario.Canada .I was holding my baby in front of the living room window , when they passed!! 3 rd time I saw her when She Visited Science North in Sudbury, Ontario.Canada . After watching the Crown the Netflix Series, gave me much deeper understanding that it's hard to make correct decisions especially when the issue of Margaret and Peter, Lilibeth had to decide base on her response whether as a sister or as a queen. And as well as the feelings that Margaret dealt with, we're all humans we make mistakes and feel emotions of envy, unfairness and loathe yet it's remarkable to see how that didn't break the relationship between the two sisters.
I feel the Queen's loss now that Prince Philip is gone. Yet their marriage of 73 years is such a feat,a blissful marriage of great love & tolerance. I'd watched the funeral of the Prince on tv here in the Philippines. So long Prince Philip & my heartfelt condolence to the Queen & her family. Apr 19 2021

Yes indeed, they looked both so similar almost like twins. It was hard to tell them apart. I don't think that Princess Margaret was more beautiful than her sister Elizabeth. There father was exceedingly dashing, handsome man with beautiful features, but his wife on the other hand was quite plain, more simple in her physical appearance. She must've had a strong personality though. From what I've seen in another documentary, he had asked her many times to marry him and she refused many times until she finally accepted. Elizabeth looked so much like her father. I think her personality is a lot like his. He seems to have been a more genteel man, with a more demure, timid personality. And it must've been difficult for him to have been thrust into the spotlight when he was given the kingship.
Princess Margaret was noticibly prettier than her sister, she was compared to Elizabeth Taylor at the time and looking at pictures she looks like art. That's not to say queen Elizabeth was ugly, she just was blessed in different areas. At the end of the day Princess Margaret was far more exciting, far braver, far more adventurous

The Queen Mother was amazing, the public loved her and she loved them. So friendly with everyone, always the center of attention! I started to watch The Crown and I have made it to season two. I am not too sure if I’ll change my mind but I just felt horrible for BOTH sisters. As a sibling I could never imagine denying my such a request but I have not the slightest idea what it’s like to LITERALLY carry a nation on my back.
The Crown is fiction, not based on facts. Calls have been made for Netfix to have a disclaimer at the start of each episode. Especially in recent episode where King Charles was supposed to have plotted with the Prime Minister John Major to get the Queen to abdicate. John Major has spoken against this shameful behaviour and Dame Judy said that much as she supports freedom of expression, Netflix should have a disclaimer that the series is based on fiction. This woman became the official Queen in 1953, a year before my Grandmother was born. My grandma died in 2020 and Elizabeth is still Queen, Elizabeth deserves to know that.
Her mother lived for 100 years so may she. But I feel for you my grandparents were younger than her but died in their early 70's. Her children and grandchildren are the luckiest people. Imagine being +71 and your mother is still alive.
I think it is just so natural that siblings have different personalities. For the second and the third child, there is always a example with whom they are always compared to. Sometimes it can be pleasant and sometimes not.

The Church of England wasn't established in order to make divorce easy. It was not a divorce that Henry sought in the case of Catherine of Aragon, but an annulment, as Henry claimed that the marriage had failed to produce a male heir because of God's displeasure at him marrying his brother's wife. Of course this is all a lot of pretext for a man who simply wanted a younger and hopefully more fertile woman, but it still remains true that a divorce was just about impossible to procure within the Church of England, even for royalty, until modern times.

I think the sisters admired the differences in each other. I think it broke the Queen's sister heart when she denied Margret the marriage to Peter. The fact that they were able to move past it speaks to the bond and love between the two of them.
Until the age of 25, the Queen could refuse her sister to marry which she did and Margaret was asked to wait. On reaching 25,, Margaret could have married Peter Townsend, however she would have had to give up her right in line to succession to the throne as would have her children. Perhaps that played in the balance for despite all Margaret was very attached to her status as Princess and all the frills that went with it.

She is a woman to be greatly admired for her sense of duty and rising to the challenge of being Queen at the young age of 25. I think that Duchess Catherine has many of the same qualities as the Queen, and will one day be the perfect Queen Consort.

David was wealthy in his own right and financed his departure with the sale of several properties to his brother Albert in order to keep them in the royal family. He was also a man of the world, very sophisticated, Margaret was sheltered. Marrying Peter against her family's wishes would have resulted in banishment, loss of family and if not poverty, then a definite downgrading of status. It was a hard choice.

I think Queen Elizabeth's seeming leniency toward Harry's issues may be due, in part, to the rather strict stance she felt she had to take with Margaret when she wanted to marry Townsend. From what I've read, it hurt Elizabeth to have to deny Margaret her choice of husband.

After watching the Crown the Netflix Series, gave me much deeper understanding that it's hard to make correct decisions especially when the issue of Margaret and Peter, Lilibeth had to decide base on her response whether as a sister or as a queen. And as well as the feelings that Margaret dealt with, we're all humans we make mistakes and feel emotions of envy, unfairness and loathe yet it's remarkable to see how that didn't break the relationship between the two sisters.

Yes indeed, they looked both so similar almost like twins. It was hard to tell them apart. I don't think that Princess Margaret was more beautiful than her sister Elizabeth. There father was exceedingly dashing, handsome man with beautiful features, but his wife on the other hand was quite plain, more simple in her physical appearance. She must've had a strong personality though. From what I've seen in another documentary, he had asked her many times to marry him and she refused many times until she finally accepted. Elizabeth looked so much like her father. I think her personality is a lot like his. He seems to have been a more genteel man, with a more demure, timid personality. And it must've been difficult for him to have been thrust into the spotlight when he was given the kingship.

Princess Margaret was noticibly prettier than her sister, she was compared to Elizabeth Taylor at the time and looking at pictures she looks like art. That's not to say queen Elizabeth was ugly, she just was blessed in different areas. At the end of the day Princess Margaret was far more exciting, far braver, far more adventurous

Doubtful. The one whom is to takeover is of MOST importance. Charles was of MOST importance, BUT Andrew is confirmed the Queens favorite when Charles was born the Charles spent the first years of his life with nannies and such; but when Andrew came around she was more involved with him.

The Queen Mother was amazing, the public loved her and she loved them. So friendly with everyone, always the center of attention! Too bad she couldn’t loosen up her daughter, the Queen is so uptight but she is the Queen, she carries a heavy load and now will have to do so pretty much alone. She can depend on Anne and Edward!

It's interesting to think about the laws / policies back in the day that governed the royal family - if Queen Elizabeth had a younger brother instead of a younger sister, the younger brother would've been given the throne / became king instead of Elizabeth all because he was a male.

I started to watch The Crown and I have made it to season two. I am not too sure if I’ll change my mind but I just felt horrible for BOTH sisters. As a sibling I could never imagine denying my such a request but I have not the slightest idea what it’s like to LITERALLY carry a nation on my back.

Especially in recent episode where King Charles was supposed to have plotted with the Prime Minister John Major to get the Queen to abdicate. John Major has spoken against this shameful behaviour and Dame Judy said that much as she supports freedom of expression, Netflix should have a disclaimer that the series is based on fiction.

This woman became the official Queen in 1953, a year before my Grandmother was born.
My grandma died in 2020 and Elizabeth is still Queen, Elizabeth deserves to know that.
Her mother lived for 100 years so may she. But I feel for you my grandparents were younger than her but died in their early 70's. Her children and grandchildren are the luckiest people. Imagine being +71 and your mother is still alive.
I think it is just so natural that siblings have different personalities. For the second and the third child, there is always a example with whom they are always compared to. Sometimes it can be pleasant and sometimes not.
The queen never had a chance to enjoy her life growing up she had to give up everything for the crown even at a young age.

The Church of England wasn't established in order to make divorce easy. It was not a divorce that Henry sought in the case of Catherine of Aragon, but an annulment, as Henry claimed that the marriage had failed to produce a male heir because of God's displeasure at him marrying his brother's wife. Of course this is all a lot of pretext for a man who simply wanted a younger and hopefully more fertile woman, but it still remains true that a divorce was just about impossible to procure within the Church of England, even for royalty, until modern times.
