Remastered is not the word I want to use, but that's what all the media outlets (IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku) have been calling so I figured I better put that in the title.
ODST has been ported over to the Xbox One to be a part of the Master Chief Collection. It is an apology from 343 industries, for the disastrous launch of Halo MCC. The game runs in native 1080p here, with buttery smooth 60 frames per second. As expected, this is not a remaster, but an upgraded port. 343 never promised anything more than that. It does look better, You can see the image is sharper, and the lighting is much better. Overall what matters is that we can now play ODST on the Xbox One, and free for those of us who bought Halo MCC in the first month.
For those of you who didn't buy it within the first month, you can buy the campaign for only $5. It's a great deal because the game is amazing. It's the Halo game that took the most risk, by not having a Spartan be the lead playable character. New Mombassa is somewhat of an open world, and you can take on missions out of order, something that no other Halo game has. If you own the Master Chief Collection, there is no reason you shouldn't buy this at the low price.
As always we inlcuded relevant gameplay, important dialogue and all cutscenes to create one fluid cinematic experience. We had to alter the pitch a bith in audio areas to avoid copyrights, but overall they were only minor issues. We hope you enjoy!

I always loved how in the cutscenes if they fired their weapons and it transitioned to game-play you would be missing the correct amount of rounds from your current mag/load
The music was so good. It felt like a much darker game, a somber one. the feeling on being alone, such a nice mood.

It’s the little things like that that made the game more inviting and made the player feel connected to the game. It was memorable because it was relatable.

@@gargeely4901 nah, the VISR system wasn't that pushed up. While it might highlight ammo and others it could visually see, I'm sure Vergil, or Quick to Adjust (the real name of the engineer) did guide him to some degrees.

Yes (if you know this secret) that is why virgil locks the mp soldier away from you in the tunnels. He was going to betray the rookie. Virgil saved him from being killed. He also on purposely locked off other doors so the rookie wouldn't get lost.
The Rookie is honestly my favorite character in Halo. I think in some cases, it’s easy to be badass as a Spartan because you have been through some shit, had a lot of training and augmentations, and just be a true machine of combat.
But for most Marines and even ODSTs (as badass as some of them may be) in the Halo universe, it’s a tough war against a ruthless and relentless enemy.
But the Rookie never gave up to find his squad. He fought alone through a dark, eerie city completely occupied by the enemy to ensure the safety and survival of himself and his team, trying to decipher the clues so he could regroup with them and see if they were safe and alive.
He was a true and decent soldier until his end in New Blood and he would have made a great Spartan.

Dang it, I wish there was a second type of halo game like this. I always enjoyed the "Marine" Side of things. Just a regular joe fighting in trenches against aliens. Not so much of the super soldier type. However I still love master chief.

alxxpspqr Well the truth is it was more of a side story to Halo 3. It was thanks to the alien's information that they found the true purpose behind the Covenant's invasion of Earth and is responsible for a good third of Halo 3's plot.

Woulda been better if the made brutes and normal Covenant enemies seem like super enemies because they were in real life. ODST couldn't melee them like Spartans
Well, the ODST's aren't normal soldiers either. The ODST-corps was created on the basis of the ORION Project (Spartan-I's) and the ODST Battle Armour has some Mjolnir technology. Many ODST's later became Spartan-IV's, like Buck and Sarah Palmer.
I think he was playing on easy, because on normal and above you can't melee them like spartans, and you also got 1-shot if a brute hit you.

Johnson wasn't a successful spartan. The spartan one project was a failure and instead of him being a spartan, he became a tough badass marine who wasn't scared of anything.

I really liked what they did with the AI in this game, the city AI called The Superintendent, and how he helped the Rookie in the story. It was a clever idea that fit with the story and setting. You have this AI that was built for this futuristic city of New Mombasa, and now he's helping this ODST fight against a full scale alien invasion by providing the only things he can; information, clearance, and guidance.

Had a single scientist not altered the Superintendent AI to keep his daughter safe on the streets of New Mombassa, it wouldn't have mattered.
The AI helping you throughout the game is not the Superintendent exactly, it's a subroutine named Virgil. Virgil knew the seismic data it extracted was vital to the UNSC, and used the same tricks it used to protect Sadie to help the Rookie.
I find the AIs in Halo (not the game AI) some of the most compelling, and occasionally funny, characters. Vergil has a great recorded line when the Rookie is going into the data center, "Warning: Hitchhikers may be escaped convicts!"
Black Box is kind of an intellectual snob with some great lines in 'Hunt the Truth', and it also introduces a new unnamed AI that we hear from in that story. After Halo Wars 2 I really want to see more of Isabel in future games or novels. That laugh when she was in Jerome's armor and he leapt out of the ship was just priceless. Maybe we'll see more of Vergil in the future, keeping Sadie out of trouble again...
Its also smart to have it communicate in already written dialogues. When you blow up the oni building, in the corner of the camera screen it says “destruction of property! Contacting local authorities” and other stuff.
GunRecon 11 Dare says that the Vergil only recently merged with the AI so that’s not entirely true.
@@Alligator81 Everything Virgil says is an actual attempt at communication, but must be spoken in terms of usual “everyday guidance” that the Superintendent would say. The “hitchhikers may be escaped convicts” would be a normal safety warning, but when Virgil says it to Rookie, it is literally a direct warning about the cop who’s going down the data stacks following Rookie, which is why Virgil didn’t open said data stacks until Rookie arrives. Virgil knew what the cop was there to do, so he locked him out, but as to not give himself away (nobody knows about Virgil’s existence except for Sadie, her father, and Rookie, which is why Virgil disguises himself using normal Superintendent phrases and is also why the cop confuses Virgil’s activity for the Superintendent malfunctioning), he played dumb under the guise of the Superintendent while dropping a massive hint that only Rookie would understand and that the cop wouldn’t pay any attention to since he thinks the Superintendent is acting up anyway. It’s really brilliant when it’s broken down like this and I wish Microsoft kept Bungie to make more Halo stories as deep as ODST was.

Anyone else really like the feeling and atmosphere of ODST? It was dark and you felt vulnerable since you were a soldier rather than being Master Chief. Something about roaming that city at night was something else to me

Man, I loved the depth of storytelling, the film noir style, the nighttime neon color palette, and the soundtrack of this game. Not to mention the “oh crap” feeling when spotted by a group of Covies you were trying to sneak past. Such an immersive FPS game, and such a great installment in the Halo universe.

i recently played it for the first time on mcc to complete the campaigns, and mid way through in a rookie segment, i explored around a courtyard that was out of the way, and it was two engineers with no other covenant around, and i, still not fully sure what they were, noticed that they werent aggroing me, so i had a real ass experience of me circling the perimiter, ocassionally watching as they trailed me, and left. then this cutscene happened and i was like "whu- hey hey hey! i wouldnt do that! come on now!"
It's funny but the best games in HALO series are actually spinoffs: ODST and Reach. Amazing writing, stellar soundtrack, atmosphere, attention to details. And dont get me wrong I simply adore first three Halo's.

I love how much depth is into the story of odst. How the rookie, who is the last odst to awake, journeys through the city to find out what all has happened. Doing so he realizes how much the covenant has took from them, and the real reason they are here in this city.

My first time playing this game was an experience to remember. I still remember being in my room late at night, cold and the pure loneliness and grim determination I felt while walking the streets and finding clues of my teammates. For most of the game I thought they were dead and we were playing the last stand of the last man on the planet.

EDIT: It’s a great throwback to the Fall of Reach (the battle) and you even get to assist Buck in Halo: Reach (which came out after ODST) in the mission New Alexandria.

'This was honestly one of my favorite halo games, I liked that being the rookie was basically survival and hunting clues, finding weapon stashes and mongooses made it feel so cool driving around the city controlled by covenant, and the mission with each ODST made it feel like a real squad

I loved playing ODST back then.
It had a feeling of doom and gloom looking for my teammates. All while playing a silent character with a silent weapon, made me feel like i black ops assassin picking off targets. That game was awesome.
Why didn't they immediately apply the biofoam when they realized he was injured?

Ran out of biofoam, probably.
unaware of the severity of his injures. Them being on the move likely made it worst, his lung was likely fine at first, but ruptured with them moving. And bio foam is just as it sounds. Safe to apply to open flesh, stops bleeding and helps plug lung wholes, however, the body can't heal with the foam in the way. So it should be used like a tourniquet. Note, biofoam is still a new thing by today's time. And really only used in battlefield situations.

Everytime a human dies, everytime a shotgun shell is wasted, everytime a friendly disappears at a cutscene, my depression increases. I have replayed almost every checkpoint with UNSC to try and keep more alive, and I cried once, when nobody survived.

+Maedhros Curufin Halo games don't build off of each other like they should, like the story is. They are similar but they are like their own little world. Not cool. Fore example, with the major improvements in computer processors, software, the gaming platform among other improvements, by Halo 6 alright? We should be seeing duel wielding, vultures, Hornets, Cobras, Grizzly Tanks, Spartan abilities, armor abilities, all vehicles you can carry shit in and not merely just drive or blow shit up with, we should be seeing more free and Halo like story if all these Halo aspects were kept constant. We should be seeing ODSTs, we should be seeing missions where you can assault to take over or destroy covenant ships like illustrated in Halo 1 AND the books. we should be seeing ALL Covenant vehicles and Aircraft as depicted from Halo wars. We should be seeing all covenant weaponry depicted in all games, We should be seeing all UNSC weaponry too. Redundant weaponry can be chosen from kind like how you can choose what time of color or armor you wear no big deal. We should be seeing all brute weapons as depicted in halo wars and Halo 3 and 2. We should have cyclops from Halo Wars to man and heal shit. We should have UNSC bases like in Halo Wars that we can travel to like in Halo Wars. Armor piercing rounds like in Halo Reach, Gremlins from Halo Wars, ODST drops like in Halo 2 and ODST. Alien storylines like in Halo 2 with the Arbiter. Halo 3 fire grenades and abilities should all be accounted for. We should be seeing Alien only missions too like in Halo 2. COME ON? Halo's Maximum potential? :/ Anyone brings up the context justification of each game, I’m already a step ahead of you, if there’s no brutes, no problem, just leave out anything I said about brutes, next game they are? For Brevity I can terribly summarize by saying to take many of the key aspects of Zelda Twilight Princess, Halo Wars, Skyrim, ALL the other Halo games, star wars battlefront and Modern Warfare and put those highlighting aspects as the standard. They don't have half the aspects I've highlighted in my original long comment. That's why I'm saying I don't see the maximum potential yet. And by max I mean within the constraints of a game console, controller, and a tv with matchmaking in the game. Within those comfy constraints.

I loved the rookie missions and how lonely and scared i felt playing them, roaming around the streets of numbani at night. It’s not like playing Chief where you man handle brutes, brutes were huge and you were really the size of a jackal so you had to be much more afraid. Then playing the flashback missions to see what happened to your squad mates made you feel a little better but then got pulled back to the lonely streets with the somber ost. Fantastic game
I wish the Rookie never died he was my favorite character who was just like Noble Six I play as in Firefight and Campaogn more than any other character its just bullshit how he dies like that he fought hordes of the Covenant forces throughout the city and gets killed by the fucking rebels.

People were upset because it used the same engine as halo 3, which made it seem like it could have been a dlc to halo 3 instead of the $60 tag which “only” exclusively included a new campaign and , firefight mode instead of a actual multiplayer. None the less I actually bought this game with the 360 before I got a chance to buy halo 3, and I did not regret it
It's value for money was highly dependent on how much DLC you had bought for Halo 3. The campaign was short, and firefight alone didn't make up the difference to $60. But the second disc had all the DLC so far for Halo 3 multiplayer.
I hadn't bought any of it yet, so ODST was a bargain.
The opening, Buck's woman advice to Rookie, Dutch's asking the lord of flying, and 37:15 cutscenes are my favorites.
Compare this game with Halo 5, it makes you miss the actual Halo
