I wish they would have Blur do the cinematics for Halo 3 too. It is so weird going from the beautiful Halo 2 anniversary cutscenes to the rather weirdly animated Halo 3 ones, then to the very well done Halo 4 ones.

I really don't want to jump on the 343-hate bandwagon but I just can't help it. They're trying, bless them, but they just can't nail down the initial underlying ideas that made Halo a cult-classic in the first place. All the games made by Bungie have this same consistent theme: heroism, self-sacrifice for the greater good, desperation. Watching humanity being pushed to the very breaking point and seeing characters stand defiant in the face of certain doom. And what does 343i give us? A love story between a soldier who's had his romantic desires neurologically supressed and an AI who's aware that she isn't human but just can't accept it. Its ridiculous. I mean its good in its own right but it just cannot top the idea of a character laying down their own life to ensure humanity's survival.

Okay, loved Halo 3, but that memorial bit at the end always got me. Like 20 billion people died in the war and on Earth the memorial is a single pillar with about 20 people's pictures stickytaped to it?
haha true, but maybe they had memorials all over the place, which I'm sure they did. And this is just a memorial for this specific group of people or something like that
Despite the lettering on it, apparently the monument was dedicated to the contingent of soldiers who traveled through the portal and never came back. Hence the wording of Lord Hood's speech.
1:20:35 The end of an era,a great trilogy and a legend. Sometimes this scene makes you wonder ,what ever happened to Halo?Bungie sure as hell knew how to create great emotional scenes ,even without good graphics. However this game, needs to be remastered,to be done with truly incredible cutscenes, just like the previous ones.It deserves this both to us,and to the devellopers that made it themselves
Exactly! 343 studios did alright staying with the story, but there's inconsistentsy and the fact that bungie wanted the story to end. It was perfect, hero got the girl and saved the day.
How should it have ended here? Especially with the legendary ending? It just doesn't make sense to end the series with chief in space like that orbiting some mysterious planet with everyone thing that he's dead.
Rworld I should've ended here if Bungie never made the Legendary ending and Chief let out with a bang. But it didn't, Bungie left us with a cliffhanger and then decided to abandon the series with that said cliff hanger.
Halo 3 was the first Halo I played. I remember watching my brother play it when I was 9 then I finally got to play myself. Even tho I was confused as hell for everything in the story that couldn't be explained just by Halo 3 I loved it. The music is one of my most favorite parts of that experience.
I always loved chiefs sense of humor in these games my favorite line that always makes me laugh is when he tells Cortana “thought I’d try shooting my way out, mix things up a little”
This is really well done. When you watch just the cutscenes, you miss the connection between them. You watch the full gameplay walkthrough - you miss work tomorrow. This video allows you to fast forward through the story picking up on the best bits between the FMVs - and you end up with a much more coherent narrative. Great job @gamerslittleplayground
I would argue that the scenes are the same. They still have the art and the riming. Whats missing is the stakes. Halo 1-3 were such perfectly paced games. They took their time to establish a universe ending threat. In the first game it was kill the evil aliens and survive the parasite. It took the time to introduce the flood as something that the aliens who have been kicking your ass fear. And the ring wasnt even a thing until over halfway through. The second game brought the aliens to earth. Now we are fighting for the last of humanity. And just when it looks like that fight might be winnable, we get the twist that theres another Halo, and now they know how to activate it. Now theres a ticking clock. The whole time its building up the villains of the Prophets and Gravemind who are in the foreground advancing their plans right in front of you. The final game unleashes all of those villains on you at once. You still have the pressure of the battlefield being Earth, you have the flood on earth after you have seen what it can do, twice. Then you have the final act on the arc. Back to the ticking clock with the prophets and back to the waves of enemies from the flood. And it gives you resolution to both those stories. The problem with Halo 4 was that it was rushed. The Didact was suddenly there with virtually no buildup. Then he vanished while doing what is assumed to be bad things in the background. And then he kills a bunch of people on a space station. And then you stop him from killing earth. Theres no pacing to give the cinematic moments weight. Theres no motivations, no clock, no tidal wave of enemies. Just one bad guy we barely see and some new minions. Halo 5 falls for the same problems, but then doubles down by making you play two different sides, losing investment in the story of each and then preying on your emotions by having the bad guy be a former good guy. The problem with the new games isnt their choice of bad guys or the style, its that they tried to do too much and in doing so, failed to build what they had sufficiently. They shot for the moon but hit their foot.
It feels as though the cut scenes are running 10-15% faster than the originals It's probably the effect of them making the scenes 60FPS without trying to modify them so that the pauses and whatever else was there for effect were still there
Johnson: Don't let her go. Don't ever let her go. Imagine the feels if they bring up Johnson in Halo 6, or any other significant character from the original trilogy. Characters that died helping Chief keep Cortana safe. Only to see what she's turn into now.
I always feel so bad for Cortana, trapped alone on that half of a ship for 5 years... And Chief just jumps into his pod immediately like, well, that's her problem I'm takin' a nap! And responds to her heartfelt "I'll miss you" with "Wake me when you need me" :o Guess he wouldn't be good conversation anyway though :p
+Dirtymongol I never said it was out of character for him, dude, just that it sucks for Cortana. No idea why you think I'm "new to Halo's lore" or that I don't know about the Spartans' traumatic upbringing, lol.
Halo man, Halo. Even with its graphics this packed so much more of a punch and had so much more feeling than the later ones. It was great seeing these videos though, thanks GLP
"Don't Let her go. Don't ever let her go." yet agian. i find myself in tears at the end of yet another of these game clips..its hard to beilieve that its been so long and even harder to beilieve how emotionally attached i am to these games.. it hit me hardest at 1:11:00 and even more so at 1:16:10 with the speech and the honor guard. it really hits you deep..
The first three halos were storytelling at its finest. The new trilogy ehhhh, especially halo 5. And im still confused on why the covenant is back at war with the the humans..
sims4610593 the reason there's good and bad covenant is because there's two factions of the covenant,Those Nicknamed the "Banished" and those Knowns as the "Good elites", if you pay attention to the campaign of Halo 4 then you'd know. There's those that still believe in the great journey and there's those who opened their eyes and realized it was all a lie. That's why there's 2 factions of elites.
That literally makes no sense, Joswen. The "Banished" are Covenant rebels introduced in Halo Wars 2, they weren't in Halo 4 or 5 at all. The "Storm Covenant" or "Covenant Remanant" are in Halo 4 and 5 as the successors to the original Covenant, but even their existence makes no sense. The Covenant tried to slaughter the Elites and branded them all heretics. While I get that the Elites may have disagreements on whether to ally with Humanity or not, it makes no sense why any of them would go BACK to that ancient religion that nearly cost them their entire existence. Truly deluded individuals.
Despite of course not receiving much of any upgrades, the resolution and framerate bump is a HUGE improvement in my own opinion. Originally, Halo 3 ran at a really weird resolution and none of my screens ever was able to run it in full-screen, having plenty of black bars. It's still very hard to be completely satisfied, I feel there's plenty more levels and content that could be added to Halo 2 and Halo 3 to turn them into far better experiences, similar to how modders have made TSC:E for Halo 1 where they add weapons, vehicles, etc. from the newer Halo games in and upgrade them further, expanding the levels significantly. Still, it's good to have this improvement for Halo 3.
Ill never forget getting this game right after my 14th birthday right when it came out. I'm 31 now and I still get chills watching Chief grab Johnson's arm.
I still find it extremely funny that they switch weapons because of what covenant lacks the human has and what the human lacks is what the covenant has. While Spartans has everything and a little bit more.
One of the most structurally beautiful video game campaigns of all time. From start to finish just plain action and for those like me who play on legendary it is phenomenal.
Hank hill visits high charity. "Now i know that you guys have that ship that powers your city but have you ever considered propane? At strickland propane we believe that genocide works better with clean burning economical propane"
They already know the covenant is 10 seconds from hitting the base. the squadleaders could stand stock fucking still and they'd still be in gunfight inside of a minute. theres no point in sending them anywhere, they'd never make it in time. Better to just tell em to get their guns to their shoulders and say their prayers.
I guess she means there ain't gonna be a rally point because all hell's about to break loose. This is supported by her cocking her pistol at the same time which signals that she's expecting an imminent attack
What happened to Dual Wielding, all of the awesome guns, good multiplayer? Also what happened to all of the other protagonists, did i miss something important?
11:32 as a kid, I never understood how they immediately understood that they're about to get hit. Now I get it. "Does he usually mention me?" the actual implied answer is no. Because if it's a no, that means he knows the current state of the army and that the Chief is alive and with the UNSC. And if Truth knows that, he must know where the UNSC are holed up and that he must be the reason for the electric outage and shield deactivation...which must be for an invasion. All that deduction... in just seconds of dialogue. Halo never ceases to amaze me in how well this is all written.
@22:04 shoutout to Martin O’Donnell as well as the cinematic staff. This was and still is the most influential and bad ass video game scene in my life.
I hope so too, I would love to see more detailed facial expressions. More dialogue would be nice, but there's so much detail to the body language, you know what the character are thinking without speaking
***** Let's all be honest here, Halo 3's last mission was lit. But I see what you mean, while that part should keep the fireworks, they shouldn't over do it and throw more into the campaign. It'll ruin the atmosphere Bungie carefully crafted into this game

sad part is in the future games are not gonna be ass good as this era especially Halo obviously its really sad i cant enjoy it how i use to enjoy it when it was new dont get me wrong its still good but before man... the memories..... it makes me sad how i wont be able to re-live them but atleast i have them.
Is it that time yet ?
Good thing is the only direction i can see graphics going now is a more stylized approach, given how we've basically already gone as far as we can go when it comes to realism
It's been five years. How ya doin?
I wish they would have Blur do the cinematics for Halo 3 too. It is so weird going from the beautiful Halo 2 anniversary cutscenes to the rather weirdly animated Halo 3 ones, then to the very well done Halo 4 ones.
Yeah I was confused why the hell 3 looks like SHIT compared to 2
3 still looks amazing. And likely will for a while.
It's because H2A was the ANNIVERSARY. H2A came out in 2014. H3 in 2007.
@@CAsnowman lol if you kids think Halo 3's cinematics look shit boot up MCC and start a Halo 2 Campaign on the classic graphics. they looked amazing for the time they were made but obviously years and over a decade's advancement in video games of course they look a bit rough by today's standards. I would love to see Halo 3 and ODST get the same treatment one day for sure though.

I will always remember the Christmas of 2007. I was so excited to play halo 3. I set up everything right away and jumped into the campaign. I still remember the feeling of first playing it
Thanks for this! I'm watching all of these before Halo 5 comes out to catch up on forgotten story. I love that you show actual gameplay as well to help get a sense of the whole game, rather than just the cutscenes, which can make it confusing.
+Aaron Atkins Thatnks glad you like style of editing. Halo has a brilliant story, can't wait for H5!
+Gamer's Little Playground Thank you so much for this! It feels just like a homecoming of sorts, I'm happy to see this and remember my youth, well I'm still nineteen but I'm an adult, not much time for video games anymore, this brought back nostalgia aplenty!
Jonny B Yeah 5 fucked up halo..
"They're requesting a rally point. Where should they go?" "To war" Not really a rally point is it though?

@@sirbillius the entire level of cortana unintentionally condones mind rape in the aesthetic of the doorways and the generally powerless position that the imagery assigns to cortana. In all seriousness and with all due respect, my fight ended here. No journey can match that which we have taken in this trilogy and nothing ever will. To my fellows who played through this story with me, know that this story, no matter where its decedents take it, is untouchable.

Great call back to Halo 1 end when MC says "no, i think we're just getting started"
Hence the wording of Lord Hood's speech.
ooh, that makes way more sense. Thank you!
I hate what they did to the cutscenes they did it with halo 2 flawlessly and they didn't do anything with halo 3
That was for the people who never made it back from the portal.
You begin the fight waking up, and you finished it before going back to sleep. I know Halo 4 wasn't bad, but it should've ended right here.
But it didn't, Bungie left us with a cliffhanger and then decided to abandon the series with that said cliff hanger.
battlefield117 elite It's like the Aztecs dude, they sacrificed the best when they were the best. A legend cannot be tarnished if he dies at his peak.
Halo 3 was the first Halo I played. I remember watching my brother play it when I was 9 then I finally got to play myself. Even tho I was confused as hell for everything in the story that couldn't be explained just by Halo 3 I loved it. The music is one of my most favorite parts of that experience.
I love the way this was done, with bits of gameplay to keep you informed on what's actually going on, rather than just all of the cutscenes.

@Justin Lee the characters need an update for sure. They look and act like puppets.
The head nod when Chief & Arbiter do when they are escaping is absolutely legendary.
I always loved chiefs sense of humor in these games my favorite line that always makes me laugh is when he tells Cortana “thought I’d try shooting my way out, mix things up a little”
I love it how you show some gameplay footage too, so that the cut scenes aren't to discombobulated.
Just gonna pretend Halo 4 and 5 never happened. This was the perfect ending IMO
Halo 5 is great

This is really well done. When you watch just the cutscenes, you miss the connection between them. You watch the full gameplay walkthrough - you miss work tomorrow. This video allows you to fast forward through the story picking up on the best bits between the FMVs - and you end up with a much more coherent narrative. Great job @gamerslittleplayground
Memorable intro lines :
Cortana, all I need to know is did we lose them?
There was only one ship.
They let me pick.
Scenes like 58:05 are completely lacking in the new Halo games and definitely one of reasons why they fail to capture the magic of the original games.
Yeah, Bungie did it better, 343i needs to do better than Halo 5.
Absolutely. We need a scene that makes up for the mysterious, religious and eve creepy choir of the soundtrack.
Nathan Williams I played Halo 5 and it didn't dazzle me as the first four did. Especially Halo 2.
Mark Kim hey, that's the best music

It feels as though the cut scenes are running 10-15% faster than the originals
It's probably the effect of them making the scenes 60FPS without trying to modify them so that the pauses and whatever else was there for effect were still there
Angry Pepe Yeah, almost feels like they're being fast forwarded sometimes.
Gamers Little Playground™ They feel like they are on ice for some reason. Or that nothing has any real weight.
+ Angry Pepe They feel faster purely because of 60FPS, they are not actually any faster.
The Chief's concern at 28:02 gets me every time man every time
Johnson: Don't let her go. Don't ever let her go.
Imagine the feels if they bring up Johnson in Halo 6, or any other significant character from the original trilogy. Characters that died helping Chief keep Cortana safe. Only to see what she's turn into now.
I want all of that to happen, and sporadically like Cortana's visions in this game. That way it catches us off-guard
+catbert7 You're new to Halos' lore. Chief isn't really social, none of the original Spartans were. Sociopaths, even.
+Dirtymongol I never said it was out of character for him, dude, just that it sucks for Cortana. No idea why you think I'm "new to Halo's lore" or that I don't know about the Spartans' traumatic upbringing, lol.

The first three halos were storytelling at its finest. The new trilogy ehhhh, especially halo 5. And im still confused on why the covenant is back at war with the the humans..
It's a covenant remnant.
sims4610593 The Covenant was always at war with humanity. They have a defacto peace with the elites.
Taaketa Dinloka Even then, it's only with certain factions.
sims4610593 the reason there's good and bad covenant is because there's two factions of the covenant,Those Nicknamed the "Banished" and those Knowns as the "Good elites", if you pay attention to the campaign of Halo 4 then you'd know.

Still, it's good to have this improvement for Halo 3.

the actual implied answer is no.
