Halo 3: ODST is out now on PC with the Master Chief Collection. We re-did it on max settings in full 4K 60 frames per second. We hope you enjoy!
The game begins with Dutch, Romeo , and Mickey discussing the Covenant Supercarrier above New Mombasa, with the Rookie asleep nearby. Buck arrives and introduces Dare. Romeo wakes the Rookie and the team enter their HEVs and drop through the atmosphere; at the last minute, Dare changes their trajectory to miss the ship due to a classified mission she has for the team. The Covenant ship enters slipspace with a UNSC ship that can be seen pulling alongside it, sending a shockwave toward the ODSTs; the Rookie's pod collides with Mickey's and crashes into a building on the ground, knocking him unconscious for six hours. He awakens and proceeds to find clues as to what happened to his squadmates.

@The Zoom Definitely the most immersive and realistic of the Halos. Probably the best immersion of a character that isn't some suped up super human or alien.
What about xbox one?
I'm not sure anyone uses a Xbox One to capture games. Last time I heard most people just use a PS4 or PC.
Every Rookie cutscene is a gem.
It's one of the times a silent protagonist really sets the tone, helped me appreciate the music & ambiance even more.
Some of the best music in the series, in my opinion, especially for Mombasa streets, really makes you feel alone behind enemy lines.
I played the Mombasa streets soundtrack on loop while I was finding the audio logs

I never noticed these details at 1:01:20 after Buck talks about making sure Virgil didn’t get shot and called him perfume you could see Virgil hang his head like he was sad and at 1:01:40 you can see Rookie raise a finger to try to tell Buck and Dare that he was going into the garbage truck
I like how no one talks about Rookie being asleep under the stairs at 1:11:21

It took me this fucking long since its release to realize that you can actually see the In Amber Clad right next to the carrier in the opening cutscene. You can actually see it make the jump with the ship. Holy shit lmao

For anyone else, it's right around 04:43. Look towards the mid-rear right side of the covenant carrier for a much smaller (in comparison) ship that speeds up toward and into the slipspace portal just as the carrier does--that's In Amber Clad.
I love this game and the time you know that Nathan Fillion voiced both Buck and Cayde-6. A conversation between the two would be funny and knowing the voice actor essentially having a conversation with himself is hilarious.

After obsessively playing through all games in all difficulties in the MCC I think I am certain that ODST is my favourite Halo game.

I love this game. I never noticed all the small details like In Amber Clad in the beginning, and the Rookie in the background in some of the end cutscenes.

You should listen/read halo silent storm. It tells you how and why john117 got his rank AND the complete badassery of the ODST. Hell while the Brutes were torturing them by ripping their arms and legs from them then playing catch with their torso while still alive. Those that were still in one piece were laughing, not out of their mind, but because even though the more famous brigade of ODST were down to their last, they STILL refused to give up. Laughing in the face of danger and such. One brute was even noted to feel uneasy at home fearless they were

this was one of the best VA video games of the 2000's
it was one of my first full playthroughs of a halo game and while its different it for LOVE that
Johnson meets the engineer, of course the first thing he does is give it a lighter and have it light his cigar for him! Love it!
I wonder how many other ODST made it and either died fighting 30 mintues after drop or survived until the next day like rookie but died during the flashing
I’m Still sad that they killed off rookie in the books and that they killed him off in general.

@@billyray4526 J.D ( The Rookie ) was a good lad. The rest got into different paths, Mickey turned to the Insurgents, Dutch was retired for a while. And Buck chosed to The Spartan IVs.

@Gofaw ODST is technically a prologue to Halo 3 and it takes place in New Mombasa during Halo 2's events.
The only thing I don’t understand is that this takes place in halo 2 but you don’t fight the elites while in halo 2 you only fight elites (in the beginning) so I think they could have done that Better but either way I loved this game

Despite this being the first video game I’ve ever played, at 2 years old out of 17, I still don’t get rookie’s ability in the lore. Does he have some sort of power that allows him to see events connected to certain items? Or is it just a storytelling thing, rather than an actual lore thing?
It's just storytelling.
The rookie just sees wreckage and ponders about what could have happened and has bits of info through context clues. But he doesn't actually know anything that happened to the rest of the group.
We just play through it so that we as the player know how the item got there and what happened
