    Brought these as my beginner running shoes, and I've now ran 520km/320miles in them. They've done me well, and been looking to move on from them, after starting to feel some repercussions during, and post-run; recently.
    Looks like I'm going to be making the Saucony Tempus my next running shoe, or perhaps the Saucony Guide 16!
    Liked and subbed, great video man!
    Update: I ordered the Tempus, got a great deal aswell, £98, instead of £170

    Yes! I share your exact sentiments! I had 130miles on my Arahi 6s and just decided enough was enough. When I converted to the Tempus, I was absolutely blown away. These shoes were miles apart and I've never looked backed. Sold the 6s and have fully embraced the Tempus!

    3rd video. I am now subscribing just cuz I enjoy how detailed your reviews are. I think I am getting addicted to stability shoes. I started with Hoka Gaviota then Saucony Guide then thinking of getting either a Kayano or Adrenaline. I have plantar fasciitis and I so so loved my Gaviota! I don’t want to wear any shoe that’s not a stability shoe.

    I agree with you on the Saucony Tempus. I have 107 miles on my pair. There is minimal wear on the tread, and I do feel a bit of a pop when I run in them. Not sure how they would work if you need a lot of stability, but I don't need that much on my easy runs. So they work great for most of my daily training needs.

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Joe! The way I use the Tempus is in rotation with a variety of other trainers. The Tempus is my go-to for Tempo and mid-long distance pace runs, while I use the Arahi 6 for short relatively easy runs when my feet are tired, and the Glycerin GTS 20 for longer runs. Also in my mix are the Guide 15 and Gel-Kayano 29. As for support, I think the Tempus is fine for most usage unless one has severe pronation issues.

    Just ran two halfs this year with them. Coming from Kayanos and some achilles tendonitis, its an adjustment, but i have custom inserts which helps the ride.

    Just wanted to say a very good, helpful review -- even for a non-runner. I was given Arahi 6 as a gift and I'm deciding if I keep or try another Hoka. I've worn through Bondi 8 and Stinson 6, I think, and like them both but it's hard to determine which shoe is best for me. I've gone to the fancy running stores, and the advice is helpful, but they often push the product in stock or easy to get. Bondi helped with cushioning and plantar but wasn't the best for walking two big dogs (200 pounds) on mix of road/sidewalk and hard-packed trail. The Stinson was better for "off-road" but wore quickly and felt very "flat" (I'm a heal striker.) Anyway, I'm curious where the Arahi 6 fits in and your video did a great job of explaining what you like and dislike -- I can extrapolate how it might work for me. Thanks for the insight.

    I enjoy your reviews. I’m 72 and don’t run but walk almost daily for exercise and fitness. I need and use stability shoes. Can I assume all running shoes make good walking shoes? Currently I walk in the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 and really like it. Thinking of getting the Arahi 6 as a alternate walking shoe to change things up a bit. Waiting for the Arahi 7 to be released and hoping the Arahi 6s are discounted. Thanks. You are great and entertaining to watch.

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Allen! Much appreciated!🙏 I would say generally yes, but those more suited to walking would have more support such as stability shoes, in my opinion. The Arahi 6 should be fine but does have a pronounced rocker.

  • @ryankalkofen
    @ryankalkofen 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I'm wondering if you think this shoe would be right for me or if you have any recommendations for other shoes. I have orthotics that go from my heel down and support up to my arch and I also am a heel striker that quickly wears through the outer side of the heel on shoes. A lot of shoes don't seem to accommodate my orthotics well as they are flat on the bottom (the surface that touches the insole) and like to turn inwards or outwards in my shoe if there is not good side support in the shoe. I feel like it is a very unique scenario but if you have any suggestions I am more than willing to give anything a shot. Thanks Van!!!

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Ryan 👋 The Arahi 6 could be a good option for orthotics. As I am not a medical professional, I can't diagnose or tell you what the best shoe is for your situation, but you need a shoe with a removable sock liner and with enough room to accommodate the orthotics. One thing I will mention is that there can be too much correction in some cases where stability shoes are worn WITH orthotics. Again, I'm not a medical professional, so just beware.

    I have 165 km on the Arahi 6 and just recently got the Tempus. Man, the Tempus is just a better shoe all around. I ended up taking over a minute off of my 5k time. Now I'm planning on replacing my Speedgoat 5's with the Exodus Ultra's.

    Great video! I was looking forward to this one. I am currently using the Arahi 5 and Brooks Adrenaline 21 GTS. The latter is at the end of its running shoe life. I am a heel striker but don’t really notice big difference between these shoes. I feel faster in the Arahi and often use the Adrenaline’s for my long runs.
    From your reviews it seems like I should replace the Adrenaline with the Glycerine GTS? Instead of going to the Arahi 6 should I switch to the Saucony Tempus?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Thomas! If you can handle a bit less support than the Arahi, I would definitely consider moving to the Tempus for your up-tempo runs. As for the other, I used to wear the Adrenaline series, but have found them too firm for my long runs and a 12mm drop is way too much in my opinion. The Glycerin GTS is a much better shoe all-around (and only 10mm drop) than the Adrenaline. I have almost 300 miles on my GTS 20s, and I still reach for them on most of my long runs.

    Hey - im super flat foot and was at the local store and did my foot fitting! Been dealing with some patellar issues since December, and before this never researched on what shoe is best for my feet. I wanted the Clifton 9s but given my foot profile these were recommended. For moderate running (once my patella doesn't hurt) and walking, are these good stability shoes?

    • @oldmanvanrunning

      Hey rrkk! These are very good stability shoes, and should be fine for your usage.

  • @stevemurray710

    My feet could be off the chart flat based on a too quick look of my feet scan. I bought up a bunch of Brooks beast 20 after the 18 and 16 so some success meaning I can do 10 miles every week. I bought the Hoka gaviota 4 recently and they seem to work, likely I'll get another pair. More arahi in the supply chain though. Years ago I bought the gel kayano 25. They ruined me and the front sole was bald after 100 miles. Me 190 lbs and 9 years your senior. Beast is called motion control perhaps that's stability+++. You are fun.

    • @oldmanvanrunning

    Hi, I’m new to your channel. I just got the kayano 29s. I’ve been getting kayanos for 15+ years and always loved them. 2 short runs with the 29s, around 5k each and have an injured posteria tibial tendon and a blister on my other foot. My Osteo says the kayanos are a no go now. So sad. Would you recommend the Hoka Arahi 6 or the tempus? Or another shoe entirely? Thanks!

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, Di! Welcome to the channel!...All depends on what you're looking for. The Arahi 6 is a good option as a well cushioned and supportive daily trainer that's not too heavy, while the Tempus is lighter and faster. If you're looking for a max cushioned stability shoe, the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 is outstanding, and another great stability option is the Saucony Guide 16, although it's the firmest of the bunch.

      @@oldmanvanrunning Thank you so much for such a detailed reply. I have a thoracic back injury so stability and cushioning are probably my 2 biggest concerns (it also means I mostly have to run on the treadmill now days unfortunately). • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mr. Mr. ..... I would choose the Arahi 6 over the Tempus for your situation as it's a more stable and supportive shoe than the Tempus. Other decent options would be the Saucony Guide 15 and the ASICS Gel-Kayano 29.

    Hi Van I am a bit overpronator and looking for good stability shoes for my daily runs but a bit confused between Hoka Arahi 6 and Brooks adrenaline gts 22 which one will be the best buy?!

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Sarthak!...My personal preference is the Arahi 6 primarily due to the lower heel to toe drop (5mm vs 12mm in the Adrenaline GTS 22). Both shoes will be fine for your pronation, and I would say the Adrenaline is more durable, however the lower drop, slightly lower weight, and a tad more responsiveness due to the rocker, makes the Arahi 6 my choice....Price alone, it would be the Adrenaline based on durability.

    I am running my first Marathon in September. Between Arahi 6 and Kayano 30, which one would you recommend me for my Marathon?

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good luck with your training, and best of luck in you first marathon!!....All depends on your goal and pace. The Arahi 6 is lighter and quicker, while the Gel-Kayano 30 is heavier and more cushioned. If just looking to finish, and protecting the legs is the top priority, I would choose the Kayano 30. If needing stability and the ability to pick up the pace a bit, I would choose the Arahi 6. Hope this helps.

      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question! Unfortunately, I'm not qualified to give you a recommendation in this area. I would definitely rely on your Podiatrist's recommendation vs mine. What I can tell you is that the forefoot rocker may take some pressure off of the big toe.

    I love the Hoka design but those shoes don't last more than a year of very light and moderate use (twice a week average 7k) The fabric used for the internal in the heel part last even less plus you can feel the internal stitching on the hell. Another downside is that customer service in Europe is practically non-existent. I sent them photos of the shoe a month ago which is unusable given that the fabric has detached from the sole and on the heel the fabric has holes in various parts and I didn't receive any answer. No more Hoka for me!

      I think this shoe could work as it's fairly light with a quick turnover. Personally, I would go with a shoe like the Saucony Tempus if you need a Stability shoe as it's quicker and lighter.
