I think it's just the same framerule system as for the level finish and Nintendo ported most of the code, but you probably knew that so have a nice day I guess :)
It was probably to allow for testing flagpoles one frame, then coin blocks the next frame, then koopas the next frame, then powerups the next frame e.t.c., so they wouldn't have to check every single thing every frame. Just speculation though
@@trolledwoods377 Alternatively, I suspect it may have been a simple perf optimization. Rather than doing all possible code checks every frame, do some every 4th frame or whatever. Was a relatively early game on NES, so may have been an easy way for them to minimize slowdown or something.

In your pastebin it says 65 is the max, but with two 16-coin blocks it would be 66. There's 4 ? Blocks, a 1-Up, 2 coins blocks, and 10 floating coins in the coin room. Although with the Bullet Bill shooting at you getting all 16 out of that block is pretty unlikely, if it is possible at all. I was able to get 14 from it while getting hit once. In my testing all the other levels are the right coin count.
Amazing guide, even for the original Mario Bros. There are 1UPS in there that I never thought that existed. Also, with all those coins I could get more lives, because I always think that this game is hard, Im not a pro.
9:30 Unless Super Mario Bros. for the GameBoy Advance is different in this regard, I would bet a substantial amount of money that that is NOT the only place that area appears
Idk if this is explainable just from description; but, ive had moments where I jump too early and bonk my head on the block which is already producing a coin at the time i hit it. So essentially, sometimes if you jump too fast some how, the max coins will be less. I think that this has to do with the "frame cycle" where, if you hit the block at the earliest possible frame and then jump on the first frame you can afterwards, then you will bonk on a coin block which is still par in the air and thus will act as if you hit a solid block (just the same as bonking on an unbreakable platform). This causes a loss of 1 coin even with jumps timed so that you jump as soon as possible, so for blocks 2 tiles above small mario, as large mario you want to jump slightly after the earliest possible frame
Oh, I misunderstood, I thought you were saying that if you were jumping frame perfect (like as early as you could jump) youd get an extra coin possibly, not miss it. I didnt realize you ment that if you were to early or late it'd mess with the coins. Also I didnt see you demonstrate the bonking on the coin block by jumping early so I was just confused. Thanks so mucb for your resonse though! Love input especially from someone who undoubtedly knows better then me

Idk its kinda hard to tell with this engine when to jump for me. Maybe since i mainly play n64 games, good to know that I for sure need to adapt to the rhythm if id like to be a top player in this though, as an ex smm2 story mode IL speedrunner I probably just need to master the weird mechanics
Kosmic, in 4-1, this may help you shave off just a few extra frames. Down the pipe, as big mario, to get that Fireflower (if necessary), once you come down, immediately hold down right to land on the bricks. run to the Fireflower block, and at the end of those bricks, JUST crouch down while running and he will slide right under that block. if you're speed running, and you dont need the rest of the coins, then doing this will give you a clean pop-under to round jump that should put you right into the pipe, with a FEW frames spared. But every little frame counts, I know!!!! P.S.: Keep up the killer videos man...really like your rom-hack Wednesdays.

@@Kosmicd12 Consider it done then. I know already that some parts will have to be modified, because I already know you would not be able to get past walls that you wouldn't be able to scale backwards, normally...but, for the most part, it will be normal smb1 but reversed! Also, during this process, do you mind if i engage some input/assessment/analysis? Also also, is there a certain format that works with the ProDrive?

great guide! very helpful and i love the Sm35 videos
I did not know that second layer of hidden coin blocks was there in 1-4. Crazy considering the number of times I must have run through there as a kid.
Love your vids kosmic!
Best utuber ever ur awsome good to see a new vid
Big love for this video, Kosmic. This video is so well made and such a huge help.

Kosmic you should try speedrunning Mario 35 vs the original Mario. You could splice together Mario 35 levels
You can start with an item in course practice by pressing X before selecting a level, you can see them on the right
You can choose a powerup in practice mode by pressing x before entering the stage, they just cost 0 instead of their usual cost
30:11 I thought he was about to casually do bullet bill glitch.
Your one nice guy and this video is helpful. I finally can get 1000 coins!
You know Kosmic is a good quality TH-camr when you just read the tittle
Yay! Just the video I wanted!
189 IQ Move!!! Teaching players how to get more coins so there will be more coins in the chest when they die.
Amazing guide, even for the original Mario Bros. There are 1UPS in there that I never thought that existed. Also, with all those coins I could get more lives, because I always think that this game is hard, Im not a pro.
Your my favorite TH-camr!
Can you do the infinite 1up trick in 3-1?
Which are the differences on coins between this and the original?
Kosmic: Mmm all six
Me: WHATTTTTTT??!!
Dude thanks so much for making this.
Doesn't have to do with any kind of cycle. I literally talk about it in this video lol.
Love input especially from someone who undoubtedly knows better then me
@@Kosmicd12 also, i would like to add that youve been a inspiration for me to be a better gamer, ive been casually speedrunning since around 2004, but im too poor to stream or anything (but i have a capture card that works for n64 snes and nes for when I have spare time). Now Im studying to become a physicist, so i have less time to game. But please keep making content like this, or maybe mario 35 highlights, because it helps a fellow speedrunner how to jive in the forest of randomly skilled player in m35
@@themightyripples6582 the coin block bonks first happen in 4-1
@@Kosmicd12 this is unbelievably helpful btw, so i watched again and it seems like theres a difference of 1 or maaaaybe 2 frames between a jump that gets a coin and one that doesn't, nice job getting 2 in a row, even though you werent going for it.
Super helpful. Thanks dude.
Hey, I have a quick question, can you turtle tip for crazy time/coins, or did they remove that?
Was bonking on 10-coin blocks also on the original?
Aside of the 1ups,isn't it just the same as regular SMB?
7:56 you can select a powerup in practice mode on stage select screen with X, like in 35-player battle, but it costs 0 coins
Also Kosmic makes 8-2 look so easy..... rather than getting all coins I would be happy just being able to beat that stage lol.
He's played that level hundreds of times probably because it's required to beat the game
P.S.: Keep up the killer videos man...really like your rom-hack Wednesdays.
that only works on regular SMB1
@@Kosmicd12 See, I had no idea there were differences between the orig, rta, and tas.
I'm and ol' skool gamer, but I haven't played smb (any) in a while...been on that new kick, lolz.
Man, bro, i've been watching a lot of your videos lately, and most of these ROM-Hacks are crazy good...some just crazy, lol!
BUT, you have me inspired...I'm working on a SMW RomHack right now, with you and a few other speedrunners (etc.) in mind, and.......I'm curious:
Would you play an SNES SMW RomHack (.smc), if it was made just like SMB1.....
.....BUT EVERY STAGE IS BACKWARDS?!
8-4 back to the start, but even the level itself is backwards!!!
@@Entolyfik rta and tas are playstyles, not different versions of the game. This video is mario 35, which is different from smb1.
I've been interested in a romhack like that for a while, but not of smw unfortunately. I need it to be smb1 so I can have much more interesting gameplay
@@Kosmicd12 Consider it done then. I'm going to continue to develop the smw hack...I have a version of it that is mostly the original levels, but different parts of each level is redesigned to resemble smb1 levels...1-1 and on.
BUT, i will take the maps of each level in smb1, and reverse them.
@@Entolyfik maybe I wasn't clear, so just in case, I probably won't play it as an smw hack instead of an smb1 hack. Feel free to work on it if you so desire though 🙂
Second (kosmic was first)
So much fun watching.. even tho I can't play
Thanks for the uploads. 👌
Mario 35 is Nintendo’s love letter to loyal Mario Bro.s speed runners
I take the pipe in the first stage to hide from things like lakitu and bowser spam in the late game. If you can avoid killing them, they eventually stop
A max-coin% category for SM1 speerun would ve interesting
Jaiden Animations just showed your speedrun clips and for some reason it made me happy that she watches you
What there are whirlpools in the water level. I didnt know that at all
Ceave gaming would be proud
Thanks for the videos!
11:03 wait... how did you bonk on the block?
EDIT: I should really watch the entire video before leaving comments
Is there an all coins% in smb1?
Not really possible as soon as 1-1
Either you miss some taking the pipe, either you miss the pipe's ones
Is this the same as in the original game?
yessir! Other than 1-ups won't give you 20 coins in the original.
