    Thank you. Great video.
    Yes, the right way to repair a seam split. I just discovered this clip, but it is virtually the same as the method I have been doing on my own for years now which I developed over years of repairing many hundreds of covers. The only hint I can add to this video is I use a wet sponge in a dish and dab the tape on the sponge to wet it. Also, after taping I dribble some archival quality glue into any frays at the cover's edge and close over the fray giving an almost invisible repair.
    Getting the tape into exactly the right place can take a little practice and deftness of fingerwork, too, but the results are worth it.

    Great fix! I've done this a few times now and after resting under some heavy stuff overnight it's solid!

    I like it. Nice idea with the hinging tape instead of using glue. Try using using a nice thin steel rule to help you guide the tape into place, I found it useful when use glued paper.

      Great idea! It's always helpful to have a guide. We'll do it that way the next time it comes up!

    I love bags unlimited. I have used this method to repair factory 45 jackets as well.

    Thank you makes better sense than the other suggestion

    Very nice and clean. What no one discusses or solves are the ragged top edges and how to repair that. Even if you repair as you suggest there may be a residual ragged top edge. How can this be repaired? How about thin white tape?

    I'll prolly be looking into that tape. Sealing it from the inside sounds great.

    would it be possible to use a ruler and place it in between the folds of the sticky paper thing and slide it in.

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure. You can probably use any thin, rigid item to help assist with inserting the tape.

    Nice job with the cover repair tip! I have an expensive LP cover the top seam/corners of which are damaged by fire/open flame. Is there a way to repair that professionally in your view? Any suggestions as to where to turn for such repair? I'd be happy to send you a photo of the cover so you can evaluate better. Hope to hear back from you. Many thanks! Nick

      That's unfortunate. We wouldn't be knowledgeable enough to offer advice on how to fix that but we may know some people. : ) If you'd like to email mattyo@bagsunlimited.com with some details and a couple of images we can see if we can get it to the right people. Glad you like the video. Thanks for the comment!

    Thank you for the great idea and video showing the method. I have to quickly repair a damaged album that has problems like this. Also, I've looked into additional products by Lineco and they offer "Lineco Self Adhesive Linen Hinging Tape". Do you believe the need-to-moisten gummed paper version is better than the self-adhesive linen or has a stronger bond? Thanks again.

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The self-adhesive tape seems to bond just as well as the gummed version. The self-adhesive variety simply takes the guess work out of the equation as to how moist you need to make the tape. We have used both products extensively and we believe it is just a preference issues. Thanks for the questions.

    Is there a chance of the glue bonding both sides together during the overnight cure time?

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The glue is only on one side of the tape. It will not seep through the tape and therefore will only adhere to the side that it's on. Thanks for the question.

      I've done the repair using thin cardboard strips folded in half and coated with white glue. This works very well, but don't apply too much glue. You don't want it to go beyond the strip, gluing both sides of the cover together. I've never used paper hinging tape but I'm going to try it.

    Which side of the tape is the adhesive side? The shiny side or the dull side?

  • @PurpleHounding

    Touch up white frayed edges with a Sharpie. Do not use on anything but the rough white fray or it will show up and ruin the cover.

      Does work well, but must be very careful as it can easily bleed into unwanted areas!

    I used hot melt glue from glue gun and it worked fine.

    Does not work. 😢

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What specifically doesn't work? The video clearly shows that the process, and all of the items used, work to fix the issue of a split seam.

    • @blueser100
      @blueser100 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bags Unlimited Inc. The moistened paper hanging tape does not hold at all. Tried twice to repair old LP jacket seam that pulled apart due to age. Bought these very supplies, tried twice. Does not work. Will send back these supplies and use glue stick instead.

    • @BagsUnlimitedRochester
      @BagsUnlimitedRochester  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blueser100 , that's unfortunate that this method is not working for you. It does, however, work as advertised. I just pulled out the After the Gold Rush record that we did in this video and it's still as solid as the day we repaired the seam after a little over 2 years.
      Did you allow the tape enough time to set properly? If the tape doesn't adhere properly then it will not stay in place. Did you leave it in place overnight to "cure"? I can send you pictures of our repair if you'd like. If you need any help with application you can contact us. We can not accept a return on used glue and tape unfortunately.

    Real collectors wants albums as are, with not tapes or other stuff, I prefer and damage album as original than fixed like this, but! if you don't care much about the condition of if its a cheap album, well go and do this due is nice.

    • @RubenEditIT

      i think im a real collector, but i dont like em splitting futher open.
      and of course i do it not with albums that are super rare but your statement about that real collectors want albums splitting open like this is not correct.
