    Paul Carter was my preacher the last 5 years of his life at Conway Baptist church! I played basketball at Mississippi College and he played at Louisiana College and even until his last years he was convinced he could outshoot me. I ran nets with him a couple times and can assure that he has forgotten more about catching fish than I’ll ever know! Thank you for the amazing videos and teaching us how to fully appreciate the terrain we’ve been blessed with!

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can catch Channel cats with Wire Nets year round, you just got to fish where the fish are. Understanding their feed, spawn, and migration habits help with better catches. Winter, they in the deep water underneath wherever the Shad hang out. Early spring they move out of the channel onto flats or shallower water. Spawn they will go shallow. Summer and early fall back scattered out all over the place, then late fall back closer to the creek channels. Another Key to finding Channel cats is birds. Like pelicans or comorants. They eat shad, so where they are, there will be catfish close by. Catches will vary as those fish spread out. Winter, early summer, and early fall are best times for wire nets. You will see in our other videos various ways to set them. Hope this helps!!

    I have a question, I thought keeper catfish had to be 12 in long or longer. Those look a little small or is it because it's the video that makes them look small?

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  ปีที่แล้ว

      Channel Cats gotta be 11" long, Blue cats gotta be 12" long, Flatheads gotta be 14" long in Louisiana. Those are all channel catfish. You also are allowed up to 25 undersized catfish per fisherman in the state of Louisiana. All those regulations are listed in the booklets. Video does make the fish look smaller than they really are, especially GoPro footage. All that said we try to throw back all undersized catfish. If your fishing wire nets, your fishing for smaller fish. Most caught in wire nets will be under 5 lbs

As a life long fisherman, I hate to see methods taken away from our rights, but don't necessarily disagree with management as long as it is backed by true studies instead of knee jerk reactions and politics, which seems to be the way things get done these days

    This is ridiculous to catch and keep so many catfish and especially considering since 80% didn’t weigh a pound. Catch what you need, catching several hundred at a time is not catching what you need. You people probably don’t have any good size fish in that water because you keep almost everything

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm gonna guess your not from Louisiana. Let's look at this a little closer. That's a 24in diameter really small net, set in a lake that's over 15,000 acres with more countless miles of streams and creeks that feed into it. All of that water is loaded with catfish. It's more possible that it's overpopulated than a lack there of. That said, the average size of a channel cat in that lake isn't much bigger than the ones we kept. I've caught channel cats up to 7 or 8 pounds out of there, but I care nothing about eating them that big. They don't grow too much because they overpopulate. As far as waste, we keep what we eat and I'll bet you eat the same size catfish in restaurants if your not a vegetarian. If you are a vegetarian, then your on the wrong channel. God Bless!!!

I spend a little time in Louisiana and probably can’t tell you another state that has better people. I will keep watching your videos and hope your family is blessed .

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nathanurick8320 No sir, no nerve struck here. Thats just my defense, LoL. I can't speak for your bodies of water, but I do understand that every body of water is different. I know commercial fishermen that have caught Several Thousand pounds of catfish a week out of that lake and I've never seen a population problem. There is so much deep water and structure in that lake with a lot of shallow structure as well. They reproduce like crazy. I could also say that you take one fish off a bed and you kill more fish than that net would catch in its life, but that would make me a hypocrite. What you see in our nets is not what we always keep. We throw a lot of fish back. What we do keep don't go to waste. We feed our families, and a few friends when we have a fish fry. If you ain't tried the ones under a pound, you should. They're by far the best eating. Taste like you put sugar on em. Thanks for watching
